Sorry guys, there will be a beta 1z3

Before people groan, progress on Elemental continues across the board besides just the “game” aspect (if there are any developers reading this feel free to explain to non-developers what I mean).

Anyway, Beta 1Z2 that went up yesterday is much better than Z1 was in terms of stability and such but it’s not quite there yet.

Namely, the stuck turns and saved games need to be addressed more.  There are still reports of crashes but memory and stability seem to be adequate to proceed.

I don’t have an exact date of z3 yet but hopefully in the next week or so.

Sorry to be such a stickler here. We’re not trying to be perfectionists. We just want to make sure we produce the best possible game we can.

One other thing to note: Be wary about getting invested in the gameplay. There are already debates on various balance things. While the underpinnings are there, we expect to make a lot of radical changes between now and release.  So if you’re having fun with the beta, please don’t get too attached to anything.

I like perfectionists, or at least ambitious people. So bring on the next Z!

This is the right call, save games need to be solid before moving on.

I'm really not very surprised.  I for one actually had less stability between z1 and z2.

I'm down with this.

@Bretoniac : Ys it should be like that. But ! The game as already some flesh. Rotten and poisoned flesh, but still flesh.

So some, like myself, are enjoying the beta right now. But I'm well aware that any gameplay element can change drastically. So for now I'll just test the beta, trying to make it crash.

I can tell you I still suffer from the black white screen syndrome created by anti-aliasing.

Indeed...and the lock-ups must be fixed as well. I had no CTDs in 0.3 so far, which is a very good thing. Overall 0.3 is quite stable compared to the previous versions.

Why the apology?

Why the apology?

You know that "Sorry guys" actually means "LOL Y0U G0t pWnd!" right?

Seriously! When i say "sorry guys" it usually means Im about to insult them.

"Sorry guys but when you said you could, you really couldn't"

I don't think it's an apology. It's more like "Sorry your mother died" or "Sorry you can't have candy for breakfast today".

No apology needed.  If you have to make a beta 1zzz I wouldn't care.  What I like is that it shows that YOU care about putting out a polished product.  Something MOST developers no longer worry about.  I am confindent that when Elemental is released, it will be at the best possible state that you could create.  Sure, there will be some patches and maybe even balance issues worked out post launch, but the launch title will be stable and fun!  That's all that really matters.

Not surprised considering I've had 2 CTDs within the first 20 turns of 0.3.

now THIS is why i love Stardock I hate it wene a company releases a game then make like 300 patches(yes im looking at you World Of Warcraft now HOW many GB do the fucking patches take -_-)I bet when you release ElementaL it will be the most polished game in history because you were working so hard to make sure you dont miss anything you dont just rush to get it made as fast as possible what you care is clearly the quality of the game not the amount of time it takes to make it.LOVE YA GUYS!wish blizzard made Warcraft 4 id buy 10 copys and pre order 15 just to support the game(i love RTS and TBS and Warcraft 3 ia a good RTS/RPG...was and still is since 2003 dosent this tell you something Blizz unless you are blind then make Warcraft 4 people want it!)ill buy 3 extra ElementaL copys of the game(legal ones obviusly xD) if the game is gonna be polished well so i will support you guys ^^

So if you’re having fun with the beta

Heh. It's mildly entertaining, in a this-is-a-totally-unfinished-broken-prototype-of-an-awesome-game kind of way.

But as a new beta tester, my favorite part is the intro. It gives me pangs of nostalgia for Quest for Glory II* and other games from that era.

Going to a Beta 1ZZZZ1 is fine with me if we get all of the random crashes, stuck turns, and glitches taken care of.

Good to hear. I like bug free games! :D

I have an 8800 GT and the games graphics are fine. I just have a lot of random crashes and I still don't want to check the full screen option.

Good to hear. Looking forward to further improvements to 1Z.

I assume new maps will be released for Beta 2?

Ohio-gozaimas from Chiba, Frogboy-san,

I'm on business travel in Japan until the 21st; I know I've had more stability problems than most, perhaps, I'll take a look as soon as I'm back stateside, and post what I come across; sorry I can't help squash out the last memory bugs.  Sounds like you've been making great progress though; I think the 1Z3 choice is the right one.

I was surprised when I saw this, but only because I thought we were getting 1Z3 anyway. ;)

As much as I enjoy the current gameplay, I really look forward to some radical changes, some of which I expect I will hate and others that I will love...but it will be cool to see some of the big changes and hash it out on the forums - NOT based on what we have gotten used to - but on the merits...and see where things end up.

I am very happy to hear that "the dust hasn't settled yet" on the gameplay and hope to see lots of major changes thru beta 3.
