April 2010 2v2 Demigod Community Tournament - Rules and Registration

April 2010 2v2 Demigod Community Tournament - Rules and Registration

DG Community - we are in the process of organizing a Demigod 2v2 tournament.  This tournament is open to all that would like to participate, but does require that you follow this thread for updates, etc, as the majority of the communications including brackets will be published here.

This thread will provide the latest tournament rules, 2 man teams that have registered, and individuals that are looking to be a part of a team but do not currently have a partner.  If you'd like to participate and don't have a team, indicate so here.  Then, make efforts either in this thread or via pm to form your own team. If you are unable to form a two man team, don't worry.  All of the individuals that have indicated that they'd like to participate and were not successful at forming a 2-man team will be randomly placed into teams on the cut off date.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

Tournament Rules:

  • You may only select characters as indicated in the grid below:

  • Each match in the tournament will be the best 2 out of 3 games
  • All matches will be played on cataract with default settings (the only exceptions being AI HP on Very High and AI Gold/XP on low)
  • After teams are formed, they will be randomly placed into a bracket to determine who will fight who.  Everything will be random initially in round 1.  In the following rounds, the winners from one game will play the winners from another based on location in the bracket starting from the top on to the bottom.
  • Each team will play 1 round on light side, then 1 round on dark side.  If there is a 3rd round, the team that had the fastest win in game 1 or 2 gets to pick the side they want to be on (keep in mind the following rule).
  • The team that is on the dark side must pick their characters and ready up first.  Then the light gets to pick and the dark side does not have a chance to adjust their characters.
  • To track your wins, you must do the following - post the replay at gamereplays.org.  If you have issues with gamereplays, upload the file to rapid share and provide us with a link.  Also, provide a link to the match in the pantheon and let me know if its a win or loss.  The winning team should do this for each and every match.
  • UberFix 1.02 must be used (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/374315) UberFix is a mod that simply fixes many of the bugs in Demigod.  Check the modding forum for everything that is fixed by UberFix 1.02.

How will we handle crashes:

If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match.  If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark).  If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win.  If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, a third party will review the replay of the match and render a decision.  Be aware that the 3rd party must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone.

How we will handle invalid game states:

The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match.  In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes.  If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and we will review.  If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team should be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts. Please be reasonable, though.  We all know that Demigod has its bugs and its still pretty easy to encounter an invalid game state even if no one has intentionally triggered it.  If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof.

Also be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any foul play.

Prizes:

Outside of prestige in our small community, there is also a cash prize thanks to community contributions.

Currently, the total amount pledged for this tournament is $199.95.  Of that $199.95, I have received $99.95.  If you would like to contribute to the pot, please pm me and I'll get you the needed info to send me a payment.  If individuals do not come through on their pledges, I will not be personally covering the difference.  My goal is to collect the pledged amount before the tournament starts and I will be providing updates as I receive the pledged money.

Please thank our contributors and consider contributing to the prize yourself.

Working on a quick update to the chart.  Please review for errors and discuss.  Will post soon.

Sorry to hear that team didn't work out, McGreg.  I'll put both of you in the free agent category for now.

edit - here's the latest chart:

Why is the winner of game 2 able to select sides in game 3?  That doesn't make any sense.  Why not game 1?  The point of someone being able to pick sides in a third round is because they did better in the combination of both rounds before.  Otherwise it might as well be random.

Time until victory is the easiest way to average who did better in the first two games.

So do you want to play magnus or not?  We could possibly split up GM for two 2 man teams if this happens before Ninki goes to Montreal at the end of the month and it sounds like it's not happening til my exams are finished.  Renzo is in a completely different timezone so I don't know how reliable he would be, a convenient time for the rest of us to play is like 3 in the morning for him.

Yah that's what McGreg and I were looking at.

Just ambling down that lonesome North American highway.... -_-

Indeed.  A lot of us are going to have to be willing to be a little flexible with when we play some of these games.  I don't want to get to the point where it just becomes a US only tournament (but obviously that would simplify some logistics).

I am really confused on what the hell is going on with who we can play with.  Can you edit anything that changes on the main post.  As in demigod pairings.  Are we going to use that chart you put up?  If so that would mean a UB queen combo would work right?

The End.

P.S.  I am still looking for a Partner and want to see if anyone wants to get a couple test games in to see if we work well.

brandon - as things are "officially" changed, I update the OP.  Right now we are trying to reach an consensus regarding character selection and the grid I've been publishing is the current proposal.  I'm just waiting for people to weigh in and see if we agree that the grid is a good option.  If we can't agree, then we will stick with the original proposal for this tournament (1 player MUST chose da/tb/reg). I hope we can lock down the official character selection rules over the next 2-3 days tops, so feedback is appreciated.  I tend to think the grid approach is good and that hedgies initial team weighting is pretty reasonable and should trigger quite a bit of variety of characters played.

If the grid was used as it is written now, then yes, you could have a QoT and a UB combo.  I personally don't think that combo will be removed (eg my vote would be to keep it).

And to the best of my knowledge, I'm on top of keep the OP updated with who's willing to play, whos on a team, etc. So, I think that will work.  I think the easiest approach to finding a teammate would be to send out pm's if you see someone in the free agent list that you think would make a good partner, but you guys are welcome to get your teams setup in this thread if you like.

oh - and I dare say, I think quite a few of you will be very pleased with how much the payout for this tourney will be.  If you would like to contribute towards the cash prize of this tourney, let me know via pm.

Remember, registration will close Wednesday next week!

CASH PRIZE IS NOW > $80.02.

I get it now.  I must say I agree with your grid system more then the original plan.  Gives more options.

The End.

We picked up another cash sponsor - CASH PRIZE IS NOW > $90.02.

Hey pacov, just wondering - I can't access the imageshack chart you have posted from work, is it possible to format it directly into the OP or even a comment so I can see what you guys are talking about?  If not no worries but I'm sure I'm not the only one

cheers

I do like the grid. I approve of it over my original idea of one DA, reg, TB on a team.

Does anything seem out of whack?  Are any of you already keying in on a particular combo that you think is still on the list that is OP?  Are there any combos that have been removed that should be added?

awesome, I can read attempt 1 and 2, and Ptarth's so thanks for the quick response, guys

feedback on the chart itself shortly

ok chart feedback - I think overall it looks fine, but I'm concerned we are giving QoT too little credit.

Think about it in a 2v2 context - who beats a Sedna/QoT team with stacked idol healers?  Maybe TB/UB if they make it to the extreme late game, but otherwise?  You can't drop enough damage for them to care and we've excluded most of the stun teams who could make a dent.

I would make QoT and Sedna mutually exclusive, and I think we should look hard at QoT/Rook and QoT/Occ.

Brambleshield in 2v2 is no joke.

^Then might as well ban QoT too.

Haha nothing personal but these restrictions to me are still pretty ridiculous. It's like going back to when Demigod first was released and everyone picked Regulus and all these crappy characters because they were somehow OP since no one really knew how to play.

Meh, why am I even complaining, it's not as if I'm taking part in it anyyyyway.

OK just to clarify -

When you say ridiculous do you mean the restrictions represented by the chart, or the points I made about QoT?  Maybe both?  (Don't worry, I'm not taking it personally, but I just don't know what you mean)

And which part is like going back to release?

If your criticism is of the chart overall, are you advocating the simpler "each team needs TB, Reg, or DA" or no restrictions at all?

Thanks,

Kestrel

The only one that I would be worried about is QoT + sed just because its so much staying power but I am sure it would be bad late game.

I think a rook + qot can be out done by a tb + oculus so I am not to worried about that one.

I'm more worried about qot + ub to be honest...

Ya, tb Occulus is pretty strong.  I am not worried about UB Qot to much though.

The End.

ya.  especially with the uberfix, tb / occ was what i saw as really strong.  Buut who knows.

I think Oculus + tb will be competitve not overly strong.

I am sure we will see some nice erebus + da/reg or rook + qot, oak + da/reg or Ub + qot as well I even think an UB + TB team might be viable but suffer early game.

Never let them have a flag? Neither of those characters are good at pushing. QoT + Sedna and QoT + Occ are the only 2x General team, but it's far from awesome. Remember, stacking monks is expensive, and Queen is a very expensive character to remain competitive. 2v2 also has less kills then normal. Occulus is also damn expensive.

Brambleshield also disappears on it's own after 20 seconds :P Unless she goes Cloak of Night, you can oom a Queen early-game by walking up to her, engaging her until she shields, backing off and waiting for it to disappear.

Plus, anyone with TB would very nicely punish the Queen.

I do also think that Occ + TB will be one of the best combinations, Thunder and I have already considered that. However, a BotS UB + Queen might be able to do well against it?
