Dont you get it? They do it so nobody can ask for any drivers or OS to do the job themselves, instead, they expect you to go to a "shop" to fix your comp with all their "expertise". God, this is really lame

I don't think it's really robery.  I've never seen a computer sold here without an OS Installed, so I think they have to include it, just not the disc to reinstall.  A lot of people switch the OS for something they prefer anyway(But not me.  I miss my Vista )

Again, it depends. If you didnt pay for the OS, then its fine. If you did, then thats another story.

But the company (Acer in this case) should give their customers the drivers required for their product. Either through an optical disc, or download from the web.

If it wasn't included when you bought it, then you were robbed. My Vista (which has died thrice now) came with the OS disk.

The drivers I can download online for free(My OS is just corrupt and not recognizing the file to install them exists...)

Storm, I am trying to help you, but you dont give any info, I'm afraid.

If 1 or more critical OS files are corrupt, or missing for some reason, search it on google (dont laugh), and you will most probably locate which is the corrupt file. If it is a registry entry, you can add it. You dont wanna know how many times I skipped formatting my OS this way. Everything has a solution, as long as you're willing to spend time on it.

I turn it on, and all I can do is run startup repair, which is ineffective.

Meh.  My dad just decided he wants an OS disc anyway to repair his desktop(It's limping again after taking it into the SAME SHOP I TOOK MINE!!!(I don't think they know what they're doing...)

Anyway, seems legal to me since i had vista already, and he wans to upgrade(1 new computer with vista + 1 repaired computer that already had it = no lost money to microsoft.)
