Show off your Sins model (pick a page)

Think of this thread as something similar to conceptships.blogspot.com for the Sins community. Basically, a way for the community to share what they have created whether it makes it into a mod or not.

At a minimum post a screen shot of your model in blender, xsi, 3d object converter, etc or in game. If you have a name for your ship or story behind it, even better.

We are looking forward to seeing what you have created! :)

Interested in importing your models into Sins?

Visit http://soase.weebly.com/modeling.html (thanks myfist0)
The soase.weebly is a compilation of many of the hard to find topics created by many experienced soase modders and extensively added to by myfist0. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

From the beginning of this thread IskatuMesk has wow'd us with his models and ultimately released a video of his creations in Sins of a Solar Empire. This particular model was my favorite in the beginning and still stands out.

SivCorp looking to stretch new ideas from existing models managed to create several menancing models including the fantastic Vasari version seen here: (Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)

It's my thread so a few of my stuff...

Pretty much this.  It's like sculpting....except it doesn't matter if you remove too much material :p.

hmmmm as of now im not making complete ship models. just bits and pieces with barrels that shoot big projectiles at you and cause your body to turn into bits and pieces. something along those lines.

i would stop using wings 3d and move onto Blender. you can do alot more and there alot of videos for teaching you how to use blender. it has kinda a steep learning curve but its worth it.

My two-cents.  Try Milkshape (unfortunately you have to pay past the trial version).

It isn't the best program out there but it is outstanding for file conversions from one type to another and is inherently low-poly which keeps your models from exploding in size when you get carried away.

It will not help you much learning the other programs but it is very easy to use once you get the hang of a few basics.

Blender would be ideal (free and powerful) but it has a learning "cliff"--not curve.

Some of the experienced modellers here would suggest you start and stick with the Softimage Modeling tool.

Try here for some tips and links that might help: Idiot's Guide to Sins Modding

Truespace is also pretty good. User friendly. Not as hardcore as Blender, but gets the job done. My friends use it, though they hardly touch the actual object. They prefer to manipulate almost everything by the numbers.

I personally use Wings3D and it works fine. It's a very good modeler, pure modeler, and decent for texturing, but not much else.

The last link being an album in a friend's photobucket due to him having rendered the ship for me.

But yes. Wings3D is a very powerful modeling tool, though it takes a while to get really good with, but its rightclick context menus are very intuitive.

I use Pro Engineer Wildfire to do 3d models, which I then export to 3ds max in .stl (stereolithograph [triangulated]) format.

Not the most direct method, but it works lol.

I used wings for over a year. and ya its powerful but once i learn blender which took me maybe a day to watch the videos / learn the basics and then i started to model like crazy. Blender you have many options : Layers to store different models to combined with other ideas you may think of later on. Mirror is always great to have. sub surface is a great tool for human meshes and anything else that needs to look nice and etc. Bevel to make the object smoother. many more. O.O.........tho my best model was the Gundam ship Argama. which i hop zombie still has it cause my computer crashed and the file was lost. =[. i misses that ship. and it was made in Wings. ( took longer than blender may have but i didnt find blender til later ) : https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/389310

Very impressive, Hades. Btw, the Medusa looks familiar. Where is it from or inspired by?

Thank you. It's a remake of the GTB Medusa from FreeSpace, a spaceflight game that released in 1998.
