WinCustomize 2K10 Beta Feedback

Normally I’d send these privately but since WinCustomize is a community site, I figured I’d make my report on the forum.

Article view still uses evil old code that isn’t friendly on Chrome and is just generally flaky.

Agreed with all of that, especially #2. At first I thought the comment box was AWOL.

Speaking of which: (FF 3.5.7, Win 7 Pro x64)

Consistency?

Also, I can't log in to the beta site once I touch the forums, then I have to clear cookies in order to get back in. (happens on each browser I try)

My beta feedback:

1. Site is to slow.

2. On my profile i have a "zero" because I didn't mention my age. I don't like that >:(   ,it shouldn't be anything there instead.

3. On my profile page I can only see the last 9 submitted skins, there's no back or forward button to see the others.

4. The number of downloads it's smaller then the real one.

5. I can't see if i have some new comments on my skins, I have to open them one by one to see that >:(

I have been using Chrome more and more, I really hope the support can be bumped up.

to Purrball, I agree with the Master Skin text being a bit goofy on the skin detail page, I went ahead and changed it to show an image instead and got rid of the potentially confusing text, seems better to me now.

Still working on the rest of these issues

Definitely better, but now it's getting a little crowded, here's my suggestion to make it even better :)

Edit: also not sure why the "Return to List" link is there since clicking the gallery name to the left goes to the same place.

well it actually doesn't go to the same place...  the return to list will preserve whatever view you were looking at on the page before and return you to your spot there...  IE if you were 4 pages into browsing and decided to check out a skin you can click return to list and return to the same spot you were in before looking at the details page.   It's pretty slick.

edit: it also will preserve search results or filters from before, it doesn't just work when browsing

I will look into gettng the line in there, that does looks nice in your mockup, but there is a lot of other stuff to do too so it may be a little.

update: the comments box has been moved to the bottom on both skin details page and articles page...  Also there is now a header where/when the comments start.  In addition the smiley popup issue has been resolved.

Even though Windowblinds are technically Visual Styles, I think labelling them as such is confusing and misleading in the Explore popup dialog.

Perhaps the 'Explore' link should be changed to 'Galleries' It took 3 of us 15 mins to figure out how to access the galleries.

The Mouse over on the forum categories looks fine with just the lighter blue mouseover but it jumping up a pixel and being underlined with dots on MO is not only overkill, but looks goofy.

Having a download count and a 'times viewed' count would be helpful to skinners.

I think the blue gradient on the sides of the site is overbearing and takes focus from the main elements, a solid more neutral, muted color would be better...

IMO.

whoa, you don't have page changing buttons up there on safari either it appears...  which was probably happening before this change just wasn't noticed.  I will look into this, not sure why this should be different in safari

edit: oooh nevermind seem this is a problem in all browsers when there is only one page of comments...  fix coming soon

update: this issue should be fixed for all browsers in both articles and skin details

the issue with scroll bars on comments should be resolved across all browsers (it was an opera and OS X issue apparently)

Scrollbars are gone for me, awesome! :)

Completely agree with all points, particularly with the blue gradient bit, it's almost too bright, little painful to look at. Took me a while to find the gallery too.

Finding the gallery was pretty straightforward for me, but the real toughie was finding ones not present on the dropdown.  The Explore dropdown has no item to see the other galleries and it's not apparent that clicking Explore will go there.  It would be awesome if there was an item on the dropdown that went to that page.

Also, the Wallpapers section on the dropdown links to WindowBlinds on the right side of the dropdown and is shown as a part of ODNT.

Funny thing is that some of the issues reported (fonts, padding and more) were different in the original mockup, I am a bit disapointed it wasn't closer to what was orignally planned, but that's just me.

Brad posted this a year ago- I think the layout of the Explore menu in this image is much better, separating Stardock stuff from non-SD stuff and showing the product name on the left rather than something generic (such as "Visual styles")

Something else..

The lighter line looks very out of place.

Purrball that box with the news and popular tabs was taken from their impulsedriven.com design, instead of making another one that would fit the current design. Maybe they will fix that, I would hope so.

It would be nice to be able to see the DL counts on the "Explore" Pages. Currently, I am not seeing the DL counts until I click on a particular skin.

Also, on my personal site, I'm not seeing an option for my entire gallery.

My favorite way to browse WC skins is to go to the gallery and look at everything that is new.  The new WC site still has this feature, but the skins don't have the little icons to identify which program each skin belongs to....now I actually have to READ, and since the text is the same for all those programs, it takes more than a cursory glance to immediately identify everything.

For my tastes the new site isn't as quick to peruse.

It looks pretty and clean, though. O:)

Another aesthetic thing:

The WindowBlinds icon was updated way back with WB4, yet the gallery's icon is still the old pre-WB4 one.

these icons are all pretty much space holders, I just grabbed them from 'around' as we haven't gotten to making new ones for the site...  So bear with us on that, that's also why a lot of galleries don't actually have icons for them yet.
