Windows 7: Enable Secret Godmode

Have you ever wondered if there are any secret Windows 7 features? Most games have a godmode, something that will enable all cheats and features. Windows 7 too. This is going to be a brief tutorial that will allow you to enable the secret godmode in Windows 7.

This trick actually duplicates the Windows Control Panel, but it puts the 270 most useful commands from its various modules front-and-center.

Here's how to set it up:

• Create a new folder on the Windows desktop (Right-click > New > Folder).

• Rename the folder: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

If you've done it right, the folder icon will change to that of the Control Panel.

Double-click on it to see dozens of tweak categories, each with commands for changing many aspects of Windows 7's behavior. It initially appears in the Details view - I recommend changing it to Tiles view.

Happy New Year and a great 2010.

It just produces the same results as going into each control panel would.  You can write anything in place of "GodMode" and the same thing happens. http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=2724

Yep, This "Master Control Panel" also works in Vista, first reported on NEOWIN in 2008

This is an amazing find for someone like me who's afraid of fooling around with filenames and such, but I made the folder and followed instructions for renaming. I love how everything is grouped according into categories. This is an extremely useful find. Thanx

One annoying thing, tho... right clicking provides no option to change the icon... sticks out like a sore thumb cos it's not in keeping with my other 'themed' icons.  Oh well, I'll just pop it under a Winstep module until needed... and hope like heck I can remember where I hid it..

I created a shortcut in object dock and pasted this in where it says link: shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Now I have "God Mode" in my dock!

Since I use a tabbed dock I placed a short cut in my tools tab

Sinofsky revealed a list of other similar strings, noting that none of them actually give access to anything that you couldn't do already do in Control Panel. Below are some of the strings, along with what they give you access to. They all work the same way as the Godmode described by Butch 123

Damn and I was coming here to tell about this Nice Easter Egg

Sorry No windows 7 only

Bink.nu

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
