It's been around since long before Sins.  It causes problems on 32 bit systems, you need to have access to more than 4 gigs, if you do, it's probably just fine to use from what I can tell.

Some of the art has changed since i stopped working on SoA2, but when i was working on the art assets the goal was to match, or do better (as in lower) than the poly counts, and texture resolutions of the vanilla assets being replaced. This would insure that any system that can run Sins will have absolutely no trouble running the mod right out of the box. Nor would there be any need for LAA.

Obviously hardware has improved since 2008 when the project started. I am still not exactly sure if LAA actually lets Sins use more than 2 gigs of ram. Since Sins (including Rebellion) is supposed to be hard coded to crash when the game itself reaches 2 gigs of ram usage. The 2 gig hard code issue was the whole point of why we made TSOP, and a lot of TSOP found its way into SoA2.

I'm not really against running LAA on sins now. If it works for you then great. SoaGE, STA3, and Interregnum require it. It seems to work for those mods, and the texture resolutions are what i would deem ridiculous for Sins. Yet those same resolutions would be perfect for HW-Remastered. Then again HW-Remastered uses the whole 32 bit limit of 3.5 gigs of ram.

Unfortunately, I'm not an artist, but I am grateful to this mod for immeasurably helping my imagination.

I will have to check this out. Thank you for the map.

The Borg, and pretty much any AI faction in SoA2 were intended to be played on hard settings, and up. Since there is something borked about the Sins AI that makes easy, or medium difficulty on mods all, but useless. The AI sometimes wont build, or research anything on easy, or medium (Especially the Borg), and any AI fleets are virtually non existent. Though i suppose that is a good thing if you just want to check out your factions units virtually unopposed.

You're welcome, and thank you for all your work.

The first time I played through a SoA2 map, the Borg seemed to not do anything, it makes sense now.

I'm usually on the Sins of the Prophets forums, but what I really like about SoA2 is how populated it feels: each of the factions have diverse and canonically depicted units, and all of them interacting together immerses you in the ST universe.

This map is essentially, "What would happen if the Borg invaded during the Dominion War?" I'd like to make a map based on the Star Trek: Destiny or Star Trek: The Fall book miniseries next.

Have you looked through Map Design(spoilers).txt in the forge folder?

If you want to do custom things not possible normally, I can build abilities for you to design quite a ways outside the box, and may have done so already.

I have, but I'm not very good with code haha. It's really informative though, helped me understand more of the items present in Galaxy Forge.

I tried to put as many planets as possible from the Explored Galaxy map, planets from the various Federation wars (Klingon, Cardassian, Dominion, et al), and use their locations on the Star Trek Star Charts map.

Besides giving all five players their canon starting planets and letting them evolve naturally, I'm not sure what other ideas I have. If you would like to improve the map with your own custom additions, that would be most welcome!

Well, one of the things in the design file is a listing for an unkillable DS9 that can change hands and receive faction specific weapon upgrades.  That was designed with Bajor in mind.

Hunched over a 17 inch screen is so 2005. Lol

Sins made me upgrade my monitor in 2008 to a 17 in, now in 2015 a 24 @1440 makes some of the newer Sins mods a sight to see.

Major btw thanks for all your work over the years.......

Here's an update to New Frontiers, an SoA 2 campaign map with 79 canonically-placed planets.

- Reduced phase lane travel time
- Correct start templates on homeworlds

I prefer playing at a leisurely pace, with the Khitomer Accords and the Neutral Zone in place, so I start with Klingons and Romulans as allies, while Unlocked Teams just makes things more interesting.

You could emulate the founding of the Federation by placing each player on their own team.

I usually make Romulan AI behavior Fortifier because of their extreme secrecy.

Here's an update to New Frontiers, an SoA 2 campaign map with 79 canonically-placed planets.

Intersting map - lots of high value terran planets, so it's quite easy for all factions to get their economies up and running, so they're all able to build half-decent fleets. I like the attention to detail on the planets & their names.

I did notice an dev.exe error from this map:-

GalaxyGenerator AddTemplate Error: No Template 'Template:DefaultStart_OceanicFair'found.

Maybe related to the odd map icon for 'Memory Alpha' - looks like a group of segments of four different planets.

Quoting theselfescaping, reply 5019

- Reduced phase lane travel time
I'm not sure about that, it seems slower than standard maps to me.

Did you have any luck in using the DS9 station? I didn't see it in this map.

Thank you! I hope to update the map with more canon planets, so each faction's fleets can be stronger.

Memory Alpha is a BarrenFair in the map, I was probably trying to reflect the peaceful nature of the planet(oid). I just changed it to an Asteroid, hopefully that will clear up its odd map icon.

I'm not sure which planet has that OceanicFair default start template; the only planets with the OceanicFair type are Khitomer and Trill. Khitomer's default planetary template is already unchecked, so I just unchecked Trill's as well, maybe that will solve things.

Quoting theselfescaping,

- Reduced phase lane travel time

Ah sorry, I was referring to how it was faster than the original version of the map. I tried to tweak the speed so that it didn't take so long to travel between the core planets, but it still felt like you were traveling vast distances between factions.

DS9 is supposed to spawn at Bajor, but for PlanetOwner, and the planet has no owner at game start. I just changed it to spawn for NoOwner, hopefully that works.

I'll play through the map now and hopefully some of the issues will be resolved.

The OceanicFair template error appears to be resolved, as well as the Memory Alpha map icon.

However, I did get another dev.exe error:

GalaxyGenerator-AddScenarioPlanetItem Error: Unsupported EntityRef found for 'StarBaseDS9'.

The settings on the planet Bajor are:

If Always, Spawn these items for NoOwner -

Fed:Module:DS9

Not sure what to do, the updated map is here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/xvd2vd5wqg15r58/STSOA2_New_Frontiers_1.2.galaxy

You can't spawn it with no owner.  If it's not going to belong to a player at start, it needs to belong to a neutral.

I still idle in the groups steam chat if you want some real time help with it.

Has anyone created a program that converts the BIN files to TEXT?  OR if anyone has the game bin files already converted to text files for  SOA2, I would very much be grateful. <3

I know harpo made one for  the other SOTSE, will it still work for the rebellion version?
