Top 25 Games of the Decade [Results are In!]

Top 25 Games of the Decade [Results are In!]

With the end of the decade approaching, I've been seeing a lot of "Top _____ of the Decade" lists popping up. So I thought I would make my own, but instead of them just being based off of my own (very biased:P ) opinions, it should be everybody's opinions. So for the next 3ish weeks, everybody will be able to nominate whatever games they think are the best of the decade. I will put them all into a list here, and at the end of the 3 weeks, everyone will get to vote on what they think are the best. Voting will be open for 2 weeks, then I will post the results.

Rules:

  1. Game must have come out between January 1, 2000 and November 30, 2009. December 2009 will not be included, because it will be hard to determine how good the game is in only a week or two.
  2. Games can be on any platform/system. PC, Xbox360, PS3, Wii, Gamecube, DS, Xbox, PS2, etc, etc. Cross platform doesn't matter. Just make sure they came out this decade!
  3. Betas of games cannot be nominated (no Elemental, sorry:'( )
  4. Nominations will end at 12:00 AM Mountain Time December 19 (I want to use my own time zone, so sue me:P ) and voting will begin shortly after that.
  5. Voting will end 12:00 AM Mountain time January 1, at which point I will post the results.

Nominations are closed! Cast your votes for your favorite games of the decade here: http://surveys.polldaddy.com/s/7600F3F8F369957A/ You may only vote once, so make it count. When you vote, make sure only one game is ranked 1, one game is ranked 2, and so on.

I feel like there are a few games that need to be on the list:

beyond good and evil

jade empire

braid

unreal tournament 2k4

splinter cell chaos theory

And also borderlands. I know it just came out a couple of months ago, but I already feel like it has lots of little addictive things that will keep me playing it for forever (kind of like diablo II, which I only recently put down)

perhaps you should specify Medieval: Total War as Medieval 2: Total War, as the first one came out in the 90s.

Eve-online.

More and mroe subcribers and still growing. 6-7 years and counting pass the 4 year death decline of normal MMOs. This game should define the succes aspect of all MMOs.

I completely disagree. I played it, beat it, and will probably never pick it up again. I cannot get over how just flat-out stupid the ending of the story was. It just left me thinking, "WTF just happened? WTF?" That, and the explosions bugged the heck out of me. Hitting them with a rocket should be just as effective as running them over.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. It has been added to the list.

Funny, I thought that was WoW:P

Actually, I was the one who originally nominated MTW -- and I was specifically referring to the original, not Medieval 2.  (See my original post here.)  Also, as I stated in that post, Medieval Total War was released in 2002, not the "90's".   ;)

Heh.  I'm amused anyone would think I'd ever nominate the so-called "sequel"....

Battlefiled 1942 great but way better with the mod forgotten Hope or honor

Red Alert 3 was good but the Ai cheats to much Really hate EA killing Maxis and RIP Westwood.

Universe At  War Earth Assault was made by most of the guys from westwood it comes close to starcraft.

WoW is not sicne Wow is now on the decrease. Fewer and fewer players are playing WoW. It has hitted the 4 year mark and is now in it's decline like all reguler MMOs. Like all average MMOs. So yes it might have had more user total then otehr MMOs but it will not last very long. It's slowly dieing now. Eve on the other hand might have fewer users but it is still growing.

meh, I find WoW to be annoying. Every time I try it, I get annoyed at how the whole thing is just a waste of time. You pick up a quest, get on a mount, wait several minutes while the game flies you there, and then click your macros over and over again. I can see the appeal, it's a huge social phenomenon, it's just not my thing.

Borderlands on the otherhand... at least you are always doing something, running around, and shooting stuff.

And Universe at War was great! It's just too bad my PC wouldn't run it when there were more than 4 players in a game.

I don't play EVE, but I'm glad to hear it's still growing. I was worried that all the true sandbox-style MMO games would get buried under all the singleplayer-RPG-with-real-jerks-added WoW clones.

WoW is dieing? It's going to have one looooong death then. As of this time last year, it had 11.5 million subscribers http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/43735/World-of-WarCraft-11-5-Million-Subscribers and it has 62% of the MMO subscription market. EVE as of May this year had 300,000 subscribers http://www.yougamers.com/news/24079_eve_online_beats_warhammer_online_subsciber_numbers/ Considering the fact that Blizzard continues to put out expansions, and the most recent one, Wrath of the Lich King set the record for fastest selling computer game in history (2.8 million copies in 24 hours http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Warcraft:_Wrath_of_the_Lich_King) I find it very hard to believe WoW is on the decline, or that EVE will catch up with it at any time in the next 10-20 years.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending it. I've never even played WoW, or any MMO for that matter. I think it's rediculous that anyone would be willing to pay per month for a game. I just found it so hard to believe that anything could be more popular than WoW that I thought I would do a little research.

I nominate Perfect Dark (2000), the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy (2003-2005), Gran Turismo 4 (2005), TOCA: Race Driver 3 (2006), STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007), Far Cry 2 (2008), FEAR 2 (2009) and Torchlight (2009).

Also, Final Fantasy 3 doesn't belong in there as it's simply a port of a far older game.

I don't miss understand you. I know WoW is the MMO with the largest player base in history. However it's going the same way all otehr MMOs of it's type has been goign after 4 years. It's going away slowly. Sure it will take longer for WoW to go away and phase out compared to other MMOs who has already gone or are still going away.

Eve on the otehr hand is still growing, and that after 6 years of existance. If EVE would have followed the normal path of MMO's it would already be forgoten by now. But it has not, it's still growing and we see no end in it's groth for the near future. Each new free expansion bring in new people that had never played before. And brings back old people that are commign back since they are fixing problems that plague the game.

The latest pach dominion is aimed at fixing the boreness of POS warfare and replacing it with a more exciting system. They recently setted a new record for maximum number fo people connected at one time of 54101. That's all in the same world, not different realms. You could have had all 54101 all reunited at one location. It would have lagged the node out and probably killed it, but hell you could have done it.

I'm sorry, but where is the evidence that WoW is dying? I did a quick search online, and all I found was people on forums like these asking "Is WoW dying?" I couldn't find any hard numbers saying that WoW is in a decline, whether it is slow or fast.

Yeah, but shelf-life doesn't matter that much when the disparity in player base is as large as it is. EVE isn't even within an order of magnitude. WoW has 11,000,000+. EVE has about 300,000.
