[WIP] Tri-Pirate Mod Beta Three Released!!

And a Music Mod to boot.

I am finaly releasing my Tri-Pirate Mod, beta Three.

My Pirate Mod started out as an attempt to weld the Pirates into a Unique playable civilization. With a quality that rivals the original game, and a completly new way to handle the economy.

Pirates don't colonize, Pirates don't reaserch (very much). And Plundering is the only source of happiness!!

Latly however, this endevour has become much deeper. With Stiener Giving John Skalavan a face (leader of the pirates), and Fileosoft giving him a comand ship. This mod has become an epic quest to flush out John Skalavan. To bring his truth to the world!!


This beta contains the entire structure of the pirates. All the abilities are finished as I currently imagine them.

All ships are in place and the reaserch tree is complete!


Only things this mod does NOT contain

Complete models (Most are TEC standins at this point. So as of yet, screenshots still don't show anything worthwhile)
Most 2D art are stadins. (More coming thanks to Stiener!)
Any Voice Acting. I do have voices to add, but I havn't gotten complete sets yet.


I also have a music mod that I developed to go along with the Pirate mod.  (works with ANY version of sin!)

This music mod contains music from Star Trek Legacy, Homeworld (all), and a little more. It also contains Gurkov's sound mod. It is easy to cobine with any mod, as for entrenchment it can just be enabled on top of the mod. For normal sins, you must manuly combine them (Instructions included in the mod)


I HEAVILY sugest you download the music mod. It increases the atmosphere of the game, and espcialy my Pirate mod, a hundred fold.

Thank you for the feedback!

Personaly, I havn't a CLUE when my next beta will be. (which will pretty much be the finished Product). Since I can't do any artwork stuff, I have to rely on my developers for new material: 2D art, and new finished models. But none of them seem particularly inspired. SO it may be awhile (Year+) before my mod is finished. If ever.

 

I don't know how you play. But with the normal civs, there are pretty much three stages of play. First is expansion (expand boarders rapidly), then buildup (expand slowly, but use resources to build ships), then conquest (use of previaoulsy built ships to conquer enemy).

With the pirates, this tactic can not be used. To keep up a decent amount of resources, you have to be Carelessly aggressive. You can NOT stop expanding. This is a bit softend by the Defender frigate(which can generate reasouces), produced by the Abomination Defender Capitol ship. But your primary income is still from expansion.

In short, if you don't have enough resource, eathier you don't have enough Looters in your fleets, or your not being agressive enough.

If I have the Diplomacy beta, but Entrenchment is an alternative to Diplomacy in the menus, will installing the mod work if I play the Entrenchment option without disrupting Diplomacy when I use that?

if the mod is for Entrenchment (and this is though it needs to be updated to 1.05) then yoU can use it on Entrenchment just fine without having issues (ahh the joy of having multiply .exe files)

Thank.  I had 1.041 and it seems to work fine.  I can go online and get 1.05 if that's better.

I played some and might be getting the hang of it.  Once I got the Abomination with droppable repair stations and defenders it was easier, but I made the mistake or enabling auto deployment and not paying attention - oh well, so long as they don't eat up supply they can't hurt, so am building a starbase (shipyard) nearby. 

Not having documentation makes it more of an adventure (which is sometimes more fun) as to ship abiltiies, tactics, economics, and especially how to manage fleets to defeat an enemy most loot-efficiently - have the Brigantine with Loot boosted up but also some Looters near current targets?

Also, lets say I defeat an enemy fleet and create a starbase in an enemy gravity well with the elite buccaneers option, do they automatically leech off the enemy planet and shipping or do I need more, like strike craft, to attack and destroy things around the planet?

Everyone seems to dislike my first opponent so I'm getting rather friendly with far-away powers.  Bad idea, or just out of character?  I should probably be an enemy to all.

I'm very glad you like it!

The loot ability on the looter doesn't stack. And the loot ability on the Brigantine doesn't stack. This means that if you already have one looter, more looters wont boost income. (though I recomend having multiple looters in one fleet for better coverage, and incase a couple die).

However, the loot ability on the Brigantine and on the looter are (technicly speeking) differnt abilities. So, having a looter AND a Brigantine will give you more income than just having one of them.

I have discoved, that you pretty much HAVE to start with a Brigantine, or you wont have the initial credits to keep your momentum going. It doesn't bother me having a tactical bottle neck like this, becouse these are Pirates!!!

 

Elite Buccaneers does not leach off of enemy structures. So, I sugest you just kill them and get the credits strieght out.

It is only a bad idea if you decide it is.

I have three Ideas abou this.

First off, is that there are differnt kinds of pirates, differnt kinds of "charector." So I couldn't tell you what a personality should do.

Secondly, Pirates made all kinds pacts and treaties. Remeber, that the golden age of piracy came about, becouse the pirates had pacts with certain governments to Only kill the governments enemies.

Thirdly, Apart from being bloodthristy, and priate should be thrifty and clever. How better to destroy your enemy than to trick him into being your friend?

I like that concept best - a Jack Sparrow of the spaceways - although there is also something to be said for being a pillaging alien space horde once in a while.

The how-to-loot question is what do I need where to best loot ships/structures/planets.  My guess is only things that damage a planet can loot it, that you need something with LOOT ability to be in range to loot a ship (Plunder being a different special ability), and for structures I'm not sure if I need LOOT ships nearby or not - so much is going on in a battle I can't track where money/resources are coming from (would be cool to have a ticker or total on ship icons or details showing their collection, but probably too hard to do).

I was lucky to pick the right starting ship (that "Loot" ability sounded good).  Do you need to micromanage Looters or are they supposed to gravitate towards loot sources by themselves?

Also, good idea to upgrade Entrenchment even if it seems to be working OK?

It seems that I didn't explain the loot ability correctly somewhere.

What the Loot ability is. Is IF an enemy ship dies, withen range of the loot ability, you get reasources.

And you ONLY get resources IF the ship dies. Same goes for structures.

 

 

Planets are differnt. The loot ability on the Brigantine and the Looter doesn't touch planets.

Only way to raid planets are to use special abilities. One is Advanced Buccaneering on the Basilisk Shipyard.

Anouther, is the defender frigate made by the Abomination defender.  It is very important. as not only does it eventully spawn the Basilisks. But they also have the Smuggle ability. The Smuggle ability will slowly gain you reasources (very slowly) if the ship is above a habitable planet. It also prevents the Habitable planet from being colonized by enemies. (allowing you to expand your control).

 

Don't worry, I will update the mod this weekend.

Thanks for the response. Regular Looter Frigates don't stack - do Defender's stack or just 1 per empty planet?
