Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

definitly second guessing Win 7 now... i mean, my laptop handles Vista pretty well, dont see why i should upgrade... unless they can provide some compatibility for older stuff? it would be nice...

Well I can tell you the memory Win 7 uses is a hell of alot less than Vista. If you upgrade to 32 bit Win 7 you will have no problem running TA and such. Its the 64 bit that gets ya. And you can run a Virtual Machine of XP or Vista so in theory you could play those games Even with 64 bit...I dont know much about it. But Ive read you can.

 

Performance SINS wise so far its no different than Vista...though Ive not gotten to any HUGE battles yet. I play on playing with my usual settings within the next few days. SLOW everything and 3x fleet points. I also might put everything on highest just to see if how much RAM I can use during one game. I'll let you know how it goes.

 

I do like they set up of Win 7. Now that Ive had a day or so to adjust. Alot like Vista but IMHO easier to naviagte if you once you learn the new layout. The toolbar is awesome. Almost worth the upgrad itself. Im now excited to buy Objectdesk 2.0 when it comes out to see what Stardock can add to this!!!

TA works on my Vista 64. The expansion won't load though.

Descent: Freespace... absolutely inspiring. I'm actually including a lot of great ideas they used in that for my game.

 I am almost tempted to try an upload of my full ta and all expansions folder in a rar, BUT I currently do not know the total files size that  the rar might take.

edit the max compression rar with error correction record is 705mb, which kiils the filefront site with it's tiny 600mb limit. if people want me to upload it they should pm me and I will upload to a private dropbox folder.

and regards the cavedog archive, in 7zip max compression with recovery record it is 642mb and includes several of my own maps of the epic size along with a majority of other units and maps.

As for the game, if you have Vista 32 or 64, TA should work. SC might not be better in some ways, but is in others. I would recommend getting it anyway, but always look for a bargain.

Diino.com has a client available, but I don't think you have to use it. The 10 Gb trial is free for 30 days.

4shared.com looks ok. 100 Gb I think.

FileFactory.com looks like a simple upload site. Something Gb.
