Actually, I do have emergency healt insurance, but I didn't meet my deductible soon enough not to piss me off. The very concept of a deductible is crap. I pay you to cover my ass if I get hurt, but then I have to pay a certain amount of my own way until you finally kick into gear, but being a healthy, relatively young individual means that 'certain amount' is all I usually need to pay from the get go. Yet I still pay these bastards.

As for fixing healtcare, we're not going to do it. America has certain disadvantages:

1) No experience with universal healthcare.

2) Fear of socialism/desire to privatize EVERYTHING.

3) Broke.

4) Kickbacks.

What we need to do is build up a surplus again (not forseeing that happen anytime soon) and then invest in our government corporation (can you say Post Office?) with the specific focus of keeping private companies out, private interests at a minimum, and beuracratic corruption under control.

As for the surplus, an unpopular Republican and a stingy Democrat back-to-back seem to be the way. Yay, Bush/Clinton!

well if you compare the money you spend already on healthcare it should not be a problem to adopt unversal healthcare, since other countries don't spend as much and have nearly everbody coverd (although no system is perfect).

well there are a lot of different medications that can do a better job of healing then what we have on the US markets but the death/injury/sideeffect rates are too high by FDA standards

therefore a lot of money is spent just testing and try to reach those standards here in the US while other countries are releasing them sooner and of more types for cheaper because they don't have such resctrictions

though they do have more issues with side effects and death/injury rates

Here in Canada it seems they wait till US says it's OK, then we start testing. Takes forever to release. (I realize it's neccessity)

But on the flip side, I don't need any money at all if I'm sick. There are some packages in different richer provinces. The more beautiful, the more oil,etc.

They charge according to income.  All in all, no complaints. Really.
