Last person to post wins, unless they are a moderator or admin.

Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

Btw, even names have meanings or come from contracted words. And no, Guillotin (as the French spell the name) was not the inventor of the Guillotine (as the French spell the device). He headed up the commitee which contracted several people to invent the device. He actually had no hand in its actual design. The guillotine was actually a necessity after a proclamation had been produced banning capital punishment of a gory nature, similar to our rule against cruel or unusual punishment. The design was intended to be swift and allow a minimal spill of blood.

All righty then, guess I win.

sure you win

not

Yes names have a meaning, although some of them are lost, but you do not translate them.

i.e. konrad means brave (kuoni) and mentor (rat) but you never even consider to translate them.

as for the Guillotine: it (or she in english?) was named after Joseph Guillotin, although he did not build it.

if you want to know a nickname for it was the national razor.

but it has only had limited use, and no significant use in the last 100 years (publicly).

tesb have you ever thought about having a shave?

the usage was not in question the translation of the name was.

to ask that question is as redundant as if i would ask what is the translations of the hoover-dam

sure you could translate hoover to german but i would not make any sense what so ever

@harpo i shaved myself this morning, if you want to imply something say it out loud or i have start trolling your posts again :P

Although the name has little to do with the device, it's a bonus question on a pointless board. So there is no such thing as being out of place. The name translates to 'deceitful tool' which I think is funny because Joseph Guillotin was a humanist interested in easing the suffering of others, but at the same time promoted a device which is more infamous than any other for killing people, not all of which went so mercifully.

and Hoover Dam means Wall of Vacuums, right?

hoover = vacuum cleaner, yes. i also agree with you, no question is really out of place i guess i got a little annoyed with it. what got me so annoyed was the fact that it was not an honest question, but a i-know-something-do-you-?-question, which can be still educational but gets ugly if it is only asked for the sake of showing oneselfes superiority.

i think it is still better for all the people to have died to the guillotine then to be executed by standart procedures of the time and doubt it wold be less without the national razor.

where do you know this from? i never ever heard of this.

Well, I guess tone of voice and all would be helpful on a message board, but alas we are without. No, not trying to show off, but since trivia was brought up (which I was woefully wrong in knowing the answer) I figured to add my own.

And as for the translation of his name, it's actually of germanic origin and I've had a long standing interest in linguistics and majored in English Lit, which does require some linguistic courses. So when I was curious one day, I did a lot of research. The internet provides little to answer the question though. I had to dig around at my alma mater back when. Also found out that my last name means 'God fearing', but I'm not religious. Also funny.

And no arguement that the guillotine didn't ease up on the messiness. I just find the people's intents very weird given the outcome. Sadly, it didn't provide much help to Louis XVI.
