When women are sick the last thing they want to do is make a fuss, lest someone we care for starts to worry. That said, pain becomes more tolerable. It's a fact women can handle more pain than men.

Men on the other hand get a scratch they can't see and immediatly run in to find out if it's bleeding....                         In conclusion you men have to learn to relax.  Most men tend to run wiith their engines goin to fast. Hence shorter life span. Our hearts like a battery has a certain life span, given everything else is OK. Only so many beats per customer. The faster you rev the sooner there's gonna be a break down...So a day off for everyone...   (and we're prettier)

Durnit. That's true.

Well everyone has their ideas... But I've had to R.I.P. the last three wifes and almost lost this one I have now to cancer. That is no joke or anything the like.

Seems all women do is cost me a fortune to keep alive and well! But it keeps me happy doing so. Can't live without em.

Shel....I lost my wife too. I can only say that I would gladly have given everything I had or ever hoped to have to have saved her.

I can't imagine the loss of three such people. I am profoundly sad to learn of such loss.

Yes, when your with the right one, the puzzle is finished. Losing one is bad enough 3 should be outlawed..

My sympathies to both of you-_-

facts require data.  where is the data to support this fact?

Good call.  The actual data proves the opposite -- Women feel more pain than men. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/07/050705004113.htm

However, it is my observation, at least in my own 50 years, that women are more nurturing than men, and men like to play on that quality, so they express their pain (whether real, imagined, or invented) to get a female's attention and maybe a back rub or something out of the deal.   They'll suck it up in front of their guy friends to prove how strong they are, but if they think they can manipulate a woman into playing "sexy nurse" or just to get a cool drink without having to walk to the fridge, they'll do it....and feel generous because they're making their lady feel useful and needed at the same time.

natas2:

According to jaw muscle moderate pain testing, it turns out that females have varying responses to pain depending on the Estrogen/Progesterone levels (ie..."time of the menstrual month), and the mu-opioid neurotransmitter system response to those levels. When the hormone levels are the lowest, the females were most vulnerable to pain and negative emotions/thoughts were the highest. The opposite was true when the hormones were at their highest levels. The mu-opioid receptors demonstrated on PET scanning were at their highest levels when the hormones were as well. Also, nocioception (the perception of pain) appears to be dependent on rates of dopamine clearance.

This explains the observations of pain tolerance in pregnant females vs. menopausal females and explains a good deal about chronic pain syndromes and females vs. males.

Look at it this way: Female tolerance for pain is at it's highest when it is most evolutionarily advantageous (ie pregnancy and childbirth). Were it not so, H. sapiens would be far less numerous.

However, females are not monotonically (mathematical definition of the word) more pain tolerant than males. This varies with hormone level, and athlete vs. non-athlete, ethnic, cultural and genetic factors as well.

Apparently the realistic approach to pain is best. As in suck it up if small and hospital if bad. (men)

Women can and do deny the pain, I believe they always will. Apparently because we get hurt more?(not my words) And for longer periods of time, arthritis, etc. But when we're alone it doesn't make it less real. That's when we turn into our own nurses.

Hmm, as for attention. That's another book ain't it? We all have played sick some time or another. :-" Wow, I need a back rub.

Not since I was about 5.  "They" will incinerate me if I show any signs of weakness....it's that "cultural" factor that Doc mentioned. (I'm gonna end up dead on the floor for days when I finally go, because I ignore all my symptoms, assuming they'll just go away in a little bit).

Women can and do deny the pain,

Me too.  After 136 fractures in one go and being one solid bruise from armpit to knee on front, back and both sides, not to mention 3 years in hospital and over a dozen surgeries, anything less these days is tolerable if it can't be ignored. Yup, the pain has to be pretty severe/intense before I go to the doctor/hospital these days... saw enough of 'em over 3 years (plus another 2 as an outpatient) to last me a lifetime.

I suffer with chronic arthritis and pain related mobility issues, but for the most part I fight through all that and do as much as I can for myself... though I have to rely on others for foot care/toenail cutting...  cos nowadays it's a physical impossibility (joint stiffness/inflexibility) for me to reach down there myself.

However, while I generally deal with the pain because I don't want to complain too much, I will suck up big time for a back scratch.

Yup, bugger the neck rub... gimme a set of sharp nails up and down my back and I'm in 7th heaven. :inlove:

Unless I'm leaving the house, I'm barefoot.  When I leave the house, I wear athletic shoes.  I do own a pair of heels, but as I said before...they haven't made it out of the bedroom yet.

I never wear heels but love the look. Any boots.

Same here...cos I'm game to wear my high heels outside anymore... not cos I'm afeared of ridicule, but cos I have arthritis/brittle bones and feel safer with my feet closer to the ground... so they stay in the bedroom closet.

BTW, my high heels (still got 'em from the 70's, and in good nick, too) are cuban heeled... affectionately known as "Beatle Boots" in their day.

Ah, but my missus is on top all the time... on top of my eccentricities; on top of my peculiar behaviours; on top of my cravings and fantasies.... which means I should live for a very, very long time...

... being I can't/ain't allowed to get involed in any risky business. :-"

Those mobility woes really are a problem!

Here's a solution for them...also for the toenails if you leave your shoes and socks off!
