Stardock Account Change Notification

Hi, I just recieved an email from Stardock, telling me that as from now on everybody needs an unique nickname, I had to change my nickname, because it's alredy in use. So chuntering but complying I head to the account management and just out of stubbornness I hit the "update" button without changing anything and all I recieve is a "updates saved". Shouldn't there be an error message telling me, my nick is already in use? And if not, does that mean that I don't have to change my nick because for some reason, it's not used twice?

PS: just another thing: your account management seems unable to cope with umlauts, maybe you should fix that.

Same here. Honestly, I have never seen anybody in the many years I've had this name with it as well. Can we have some more information please?

The update page is being looked at.  Thanks for the catch.

And yes, you still need to change your nick.  :(

The updates saved happened to you Sinon because the page only updates the pieces that changed.  If you changed it and it was a dupe it would have complained.  We are changing the page to complain even if you don't change the field.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hollow Man,

There is another person with your nickname that created their account on 3/26/2008.  You created yours on 6/4/2009.  Sorry for the incovenience.  I would suggest changing your 'O's to zero's or add a number postfix like I have had to do.

It's been fixed.  You cannot change to your own nickname if it's already in use by more than 1 person.

Also, umlauts are not allowed, only alphanumeric, dashes, and underscores are allowed.

@Zargon: wow, fast answers from the staff. anyway: I changed my nick to something else, saved and changed it back to Sinon, still, no complaint from the system. And like Hallow Man, I've never seen anybody else with my nick, so make an activity check and release my nick! pronto! just kidding :D

Are you guys crazy!!!????

8C     Ain't no way!!!

Come on guys, look at the history.

There has to be another solution!! I can't believe you're asking me to do this after I've had to do it twice in the recent past....this is BS.

You can't seriously expect me to go through all that again. I'm still reuploading my gallery, for the third time!!!

I smell a rat in the henhouse,

I find it hard to believe the RedneckDude has been used by someone else before Jim picked it.

If it's not a rat in the henhouse something has gone very wrong with the nickname verification program.

Two of them.....o_O

It seems to me that someone who has not uploaded a thing, only made comments in a forum, should be the person to change their nic. It wont be as big of an issue with them. it should be reviewed on a case by case basis, not by who was first.

I mean this time around. Of course anyone new will have to find one that is not used.

I have to say, if this has anything to do with the gaming forums, I am a paid WC customer. I don't care about the gaming forums. Leave me be. I paid to be here. I paid to use the nick I have. If a gamer on another forum has the same nick, keep him off this forum/site. I could care less about his nick. I paid to be here, a year or two in advance, usually.

If I HAVE to do this, PuterDudeJim had better work!!!

Who is going to fix the mess that will be created when links to skins don't work anymore? If my name changes, then every link to my work from Philly's suites won't work anymore. Philly gonna have to fix those? The same applies to all the links to and from people who've had to do this. Who is going to fix this mess? Basing your database on a user name is ludicrous. Using member numbers would be much better.

Has this been thought through? Don't seem like it to me, maybe I'm stupid.

And what about the guy who has been out to sea (Tim), or away on business, and hasn't seen the email? He/she will come home, try to sign in to WC just to find that login is no longer valid!!! And his/her new login has been determined for him/her.

I'm having the same issue...I also highly doubt someone picked "weidbrewer." (Which is why I sent an email to support.)  I'm wondering if it counts the account I created on GalCiv2.com as the first and the stardock.com/Impulse one as a second.  I can't remember the specifics, but I think that I may have had to set up a separate account for Impulse.  I don't remember at this point.

Everyone be cool.  We'll get it sorted in the morning (Stardock time)

RedneckDude: Looking through the database I see only you with this nick.  Sounds like it was sent incorrectly.  There have been some messages sent to people who had their accounts merged in the past, and that may be your issue.

I truly hope you are correct. I also hope that it gets fixed before the 3 day limit , at which point the email says that a new nickname will be generated for me.

Dear User,

Thank you for your interest in Stardock software!

In order to better serve our customers, we are consolidating our account records. As part of that process we are changing our policy to require a unique nickname on all of our sites.

Your current Impulse/Stardock.NET account nickname is already in use (it is the same as another user who already had the nickname before you created your account) so we need your help. Please follow the link listed to update your account information. Use the email account at which you received this communication followed by your password to log into the site.

CLICK HERE TO CHANGE YOUR NICKNAME

Logon to your account and enter a new nickname in the Nickname field on the Vital Statistics tab. After 3 days if you have not changed your nickname you will receive another email from us with your new nickname automatically generated by our system.

Please note that the email and password associated with this account have not changed. You may need to enter your new nickname in Impulse (click the menu drop-down at the upper left and select Change log-in). At no point will anyone from Stardock ever contact you requesting your password.

Thank you for helping keep our account records current. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

It just hit me though. Due to my past troubles here at WC. My nick in Impulse and my Stardock account is different than the one here at WC.

At WC, I am RedneckDude. I login to Impulse with PuterDudeJim.

Seems I am still haunted by past mistakes.

When you guys say, "morning," you mean it.  I had a response before 9.  Nicely done.  Thanks.
