"No one has been banned."
You saying you haven't caught the invalid-game-state abusers yet?
Wow.
<noirony>just go on restricting the permissions of people who write "moderately angry posts". i guess sd and gpg cant blame anyone for criticizing but what he did was propably just throwing random insults around. and mentioning being a fan of some kind doesnt justify that!</noirony>
There IS no such 'right', inherent or implied.
Posting on Stardock's Forums is a privilege, not a right.
When such is abused it's acted upon.
Besides the reasons for any block and how deserving that is, an indication to the affected user would be better.
We all know how this faceless interaction on the internet can give way to all sorts of speculation, actions and reactions. An appropriate indication (excluding the tempting silent approach) would at least avoid the notion that a total ban happened, and this thread would have no reason to be.
Make it so that when the forum admin/mod blocks someone, an automated message with an appropriate pre-set reason is sent to the user's email.
My two cents...

Good to see these forums HAVE some moderation. I've wondered that few times..
Oh, we are talking abut Game Forums here, never mind. ![]()
I've found this is a problem with society these days, and it's really the fault of the parents of these punks...They feel entitled for a reason, it didn't just "happen". The old saying "Spare the rod, spoil the child" isn't just a bunch of letters. Its fact, and we are seeing it now. And just think, these punks are going to have their own little punks. Evil begets evil so to speak.
[blunt]If you're a parent, quit being a pussy and raise your fucking kids with some respect, common decency and compasion for others.[/blunt]
That is all.
In many cases a person will be warned via private message before it escalates any further. However, that is not a given depending on what the actual person is doing.
I agree whole heartedly!!

Doubled up there! ![]()
Then they should go to the GasPowered forums and see if their behavior is acceptable there. Stardock has the right to determine how their own forums are run.
I agree, to a point.
A lot of the attitude also comes from what, and how, they are being taught in the public school systems.
The public school system is just a reflection of society.
It is good to see Stardock doing the right things with the Demigod forums, the community don't need a culture of vile.

Public schools are the way they are because we, the people, have allowed them to get that way. We, the people, need to take back our fundamental rights. We, the people, need to show the state and federal government that they are there to serve us, not the other way around as der fuhrer would have you believe.
Exactly. A weak society, raising a new weak society. Indoctrinating our children to "fit in", "blend in", "go with the flow" etc. Discouraging freewill and independent thought.
Not with my kids, not on my watch.
There is a lot to like about stardock - and one of the major things is how the stardock peeps are so open to communication with their fanbase. I think this connection with their playerbase is one of their strengths, helps them keep in touch with their playerbase, and is something the vast majority of gaming companies avoid like the plague. There are so many lame internet tough guy types on the internet these days, i can't blame the companies for not wanting to converse with them. I much prefer they cull the jerks from their community than take the *much* easier route of just paying a community rep or two to read through the crap some of these jerks post.
Having said that, I know of at least one person who was banned that didn't deserve to be. I suspect it was because the person who did it was simply having a bad day - and that happens to all of us. A good policy is to simply always be polite on the SD forums, and you should have no problems... thing is, most gamers aren't used to forums where they have to be polite... and some people these days don't even know the meaning of the word. "Polowt?!? Is that german?"
Jerk culling is an uplifting experience...enjoyed by all except the 'jerk'...;)
Actual 'banning' is always deserved....simply because it is never an off-the-cuff decision. It invariably requires a modicum of angst amongst a few admins/mods before 'execution'.
As already mentioned...the ultimate intent [on SD forums] is to provide a convivial experience/atmosphere for all. If you want to 'rock the boat' we'll do the tipping out...;)..;)
there was something lost in translation... i was talking of the technical term permission which in my language is (directly translated) "right". and there was no irony or whatever in that sentence. i support your actions.
Sadly people tend to perceive the various 'rights' defined for them via their various versions of Constitutional/Free Speech Legislations as carrying on to publicly accessed private forums as being 'inalienable', which they are not.
A privately owned Forum/Community abides [or is supposed to abide] by defined standards of conduct which supplant those which may or may not be allowed through Legislation/decree.
Eg., "free speech" has never allowed the universal ability to say anything you like no matter where you are....perfect example is shouting "Fire" in a Cinema....or more lately/importantly "I have a bomb"....in an aeroplane....;)
'right' is a commonly-abused word/concept....;)
Ha HA! Your name is Jafo. I loved that movie. Blue something.... Crap my memory is failing me... Does your boss know what you call yourself?
Blue Thunder...and yes, everyone who knows me knows what it means.
I have been an 'Observer' for FIA and FIM for 25 years now...and so my avatar is actually a tattoo on my shoulder....;)
Jafo...that is cool!!! ![]()
For some reason, my posting abilities were removed in the Sins of a Solar Empire forum, even though I never posted there! I tried talking to Kryo, but he wasn't very helpful.![]()
The primary point is that there was aboslutely no communication. An automated message would be about 50 times better and more useful to everyone involved.
Consider: "Your status has been changed to 'visitor' and you are no longer allowed to post in the forums. If you have any questions or objections, please PM a mod. Thank you."
He had a point, but a combination of overzealousness and misunderstandings led to him creating 3 rather vitriolic posts seeded by reasonable objections, but which no doubt came across as rather unnecessary and ignorant.
What I don't expect is the right for everyone to post in a forum. What I do expect is the right to be notified when you lose those rights, and what recourse you may have when that happens. Sure, we're not technically even entitled to that, but it seems like common sense and common courtesy to me.
With no contact whatsoever it comes across as petty and spiteful, which I would expect is not generally the intent.
Maybe it went to spam? WC and Stardock have always given me reasons for their actions concerning me. Always.
