Steampunk WIP

Updated -- going with Window 2 for the first style (grungy substyle after that).

The start menu is a little incomplete in this shot because the gears and gauges are going to be animation, and I haven't gotten to the animating part just yet (except the start button, which is a gauge that fluctuates on mouseover).

very nice...I wood change your inset hilite blend mode on the places graphic to overlay...that will allow the grain to show thru.

Great idea!  Thanks, I.R.

I've re-worked the whole thing, and I really like this one a lot better.  I'm thinking about making this a substyle, so there would be one that's more Victorian and one that's a little more grungy and industrial.  What do you think?

See...start a new thread and the one I originally posted to shows up...Sorry about that.

This is so great, you need 2 threads to showcase it!  ;)

This is looking really great.

Excellent concept Karen. Nice texture combo, and great colors. Love the start button. That 3rd taskbar button....the text is going to be hard to read on it. I recommend something a bit smoother, or something with not so contrasting colors in it. (just my opinion)

I cant wait to see this one completed, and take it for a spin.

I agree, and I've already changed it to something more like the taskbar itself, and the start menu background, but a rusty brass color. I'll have to use that spring-like thing some place else like the scrollbar or something.

Window 2. Also...a really beautiful wood tone!   A little less yellow-green in the left panel maybe?

It looks like your imagination is on fire. I like the original the best of the two, but this new one is good too. if we can get them both, that's great. I don't think that brassy colour in the window fits with the rest.

I've decided...both styles will be included.  As for that brassy color in the window, that will probably be copper later on.  I just need to see it in Skin Studio and tweak the gradients.

Maybe you could use the spring looking thing for a progress animation. Looking mighty fine so far!

XD    I've just been figuring out the start menu animation.  THAT'S going to take another day...or maybe I'll steal some of my sleep time again and skin until 4 a.m.  For now, I have to get at my paying job.

I still have a long way to go but I've come to a place where I can start using it on a daily basis to see where I need to tweak what I have so far.

This is just an outstanding design k10w3. Congratulations on creating a fantastic skin. 5*

Can't wait to see this get released.

What addional skins have you done or plan to do?

What OS's is it for?

Oh, forgot to say, I want it. :sun:

My past skins aren't really worth mentioning (One Tribe is the best of them, but still...I've learned so much in preparation for Steampunk) -- I plan on making a substyle in Steampunk that's a little less Victorian and a little more grunge.  After that...I'm just going to have to see what grips me.

What OS's is it for?

Right now it's for XP, but I plan on trying to skin a Vista substyle, and who knows...maybe by the time I have this thing perfect in XP, I'll have enough money to buy a used Vista laptop from the pawn shop or something (I've been looking on Craigslist, and those people are just dreaming if they think someone is going to pay $300-$500 for a USED laptop).  Ideally, if I could get to the right financial position (which is just a little bit out of the darn hole I'm in), I would like to buy a new laptop -- I'm hoping that will happy soon, but I'm not counting on it.  If I get a new one in the near future, than, of course, I'll also make a Win7 substyle.

I think he was asking what other matching skins are u working on.. not what skins you have done in the past...

Silly ;P

Sorry, I ddin't ask that additonal skins question in the correct way, my fault.  I meant like rainlendar, widgets, objectdock, etc. to go with this theme.

Your other WBs have been good, what you talking about. :sun:

X| Doh!  Rainlendar, ClocX (because that program ROCKS -- skins are just a .png and .ini, but it has the BEST alarm for my job -- quiet little popup window that doesn't mess with the rest of my software); I've done a few cursors in the past, but I don't think I can top GearEx, which is what I used in the screenshot above.  I'll probably do a Logon and Bootskin for XP, and if I get access to Vista, I'll do a Logon and Bootskin for that, too.

OH -- and I plan on doing a Xion skin, too.

That latest Start Panel is wonderful. I would also agree with whom ever said to go with the curving pip for the windows frame as well as the start panel as that gives a much more consitent feel to the work.

Very good so far and can't wait to see more. You simply cannot let this go unfinished.
