A new case: Antec 900, Antec 1200, or anything better?

A new case: Antec 900, Antec 1200, or anything better?

I am looking for a new case as the one i have now has terrible airflow. A sinlge 120mm fan and one 80mm fan in odd locations. Also, one of my graphics cards (9800gtx+) just about touches the hard drive.

So i looked aroung and found that the Antec 900 case has some very good reviews, and the Antec 1200 has some even better reviews, but i wanted to get opinions from actual, helpful people rather than reading customer reviews that boil down to "I LOVED IT!!!" or "THIS CASE IS EVIL!!!"

I have in my current case:

 a 790i mobo from evga

2 9800gtx+ graphics cards

Core 2 quad q6700 processor

Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro hsf for the cpu

2 gb of ddr3 1600 RAM from supertalent

650 watt PSU

A dvd drive, a hard drive, and some assorted pci cards.

Anyone have any suggestions for getting the 1200 over the 900 or vice versa?

Maybe a completely different case?

And Thank You

A 400mm fan? Thats huge. I don't think I would have any overheating issues in the summer (living in New England.... We don't even have a summer anymore)

On the Achilles cases, are the drive bays toolless? It is a full tower case, right?

Hehe, the 400mm is a typo :-" ... supposed to be 40mm/4cm or just under 4"

The Achilles has standard drive bays... six of so there's plenty of room for expansion.

Yes, the Achilles is a full tower case h. 45cm x w. 19.5cm x d. 48cm... so requires a decent height/width pigeon hole in your desk to fit and for adequate ventilation. My missus also has one and I had to remove a shelf in her desk to get it to fit, height-wise.

:)

*EDIT*  That was supposed to be 100mm/10cm fans... or just on 4 inches.

I still don't get it.

4cm/40mm fans are really small and will make a helluvalot of noise if you want them to cool anything decently. 4" coolers are approx 10 cm/100mm and make a lot more sense to be in a case. So which is it? I assume the 4 inch.

starkers...get with the program....25.4mm = 1"

I had the 'pleasure' of starting Architecture during our 'Metrication'...so was obliged to be 'fluent' in metric conversions.....and still often refer to things as 10 feet long and 2 metres wide....;p

My Lian Li case has just the two fans...140mm inlet [front] and 120mm exhaust [rear] or roughly 5 1/2" and 4 1/2" ...;)

I thought that a 40cm fan would be a little excessive haha.

Space doesn't really matter for my purposes because my desk is open underneath and as long as the case isn't 4.5 feet tall it will fit under it just fine.

I have found a pretty cheap Antec 1200, so i think i am going to get that.

Thank you all though, especially Jafo for educating us on the art of metric conversion :P

 Aw get orf me case, will ya!! X(   Look, I had a rough night, a tornado ripped my blankets off, I'm suffering hypothermic amnesia, I lost my tape measure, the dog ate my conversion chart... and math was never my strong subject.

Besides, I went to the old school... you know, feet and inches... none of this metric conversion crap to contend with.  So what, I effed it up... get over it.... next time I'll use my tape measure...

... if'n I can remember where I put it. :-" ;)

Yeah, and the other valuable lesson I learned today is...DON'T try to do imperial/metric conversion when you've not long woken up/not had that first cup of coffee yet.

Yeah, that happens when you're highly  over such an obvious boo-boo.

Dunno wot I wos thinking!  Errr... WASN'T thinking. :-"

Oh well, I suppose there's one redeeming factor... I didn't order those "40cm/400mm" fans and put them on my credit card.

Spartan, While that case does look cool, it appears to have only one fan. Unless there are more on top? I couldn't find this information at the site (I admit I was tired at the time and didn't look very hard)

This did not work out (ebay) so i am once again on the hunt for a case. I will go back over all the suggestions everyone here has posted and if anyone has anymore I'm all ears

I have over 20 fans in mine but my rig is a custom version. It is a rock solid design and super sexy to boot. You may also want to try the CMS 630 EVO. It is also a beast!

Or the 832:

The only problem he has is if he leaves the computer on overnight he's likely to find it the next morning in a different room....

Bloody hovercraft are next to impossible to steer...;)

Put it this way, I spent more on it than most people spend on a small car.

It does create something of a air current in my office to be sure. Hell I have it vented directly to the window.

For me...currently exactly the same...my machine cost the same as my SAAB 9000 2.3l Turbo....;)

I do not have a restrictive budget when it comes to my rig (case size is the only reason its not beefier) but i like eating.... I was hoping no more than ~$3000 USD over the next couple months.

About venting it directly to the window, why not just get a liquid cooling kit? seems like it would be better than having to bolt the thing to the floor to keep it from taking off

I could not find the parts I needed here in Japan because of my language issues. Otherwise I would have went H20. Rest assured my next system will be so even if I have to fly it in from the US.

Get a 902. It's the EXACT same as the 1200, just smaller. It should fit everything you need if the 1200 is too pricey.

Fail what? You talking to a guy that put about $40k into a hog and a $50K sound system into a car back in the day.

$40k into a hog

You know what they say to Harley riders.... "Nice anchor....where's the boat?"

Of course...when I'm marshalling at the MotoGP and SBK I tend not to say that....kinda like my teeth where they're at.

Oh crap....Kona will be apoplectic....dissing American metal.....;)

No worries, in my opinion steel is steel. What is important is that one rides - pure and simple. It is all about the passion and heart, everthing else smoke and mirrors...
