A pity that your username was betraying you just under the thread's title. :P

Urges to kill rising...

Say, I don't know you very well, but would you be willing to give me your home address. I'll come over, maybe with a knife and show you how sharp it is. Wouldn't that be fun?

To show you I'm trusting, I'll bring a cake. Its so delicious, it might kill you... (secret ingredient is poison)...

:-"

Ugh! I thought we were going to get another survey. Of course, things could be worse...... he could have created a new accout with the name Frogboy  (that's Frogboy, followed by a space so as not to show up as taken), then posted that.....

Secound thought: "What the hell? Denryu made the thread? Ah damn it."

You should probably be glad that there's no negative karma option. :P

But then again neither does impersonating facts on a thread this info-starved. (And Winter, you should really consider getting a new avatar: some of the people on this forum might have heart conditions!)

Someone is actually asking me to change my avatar? Isn't it usually all the way around?O:)

Actually there have been a couple of times I have wished for one. Needless to say, if there was one, I would not have made this post even for laughs! ;P

Now I gotta admit, same day is increadible timing...... k1 for pure, dumb luck.

When everyone logs on we should have a tumultuous amount of data to discuss and argue over. I for one will be supremely satisfied with tactical combat if it plays like SOASE. That felt completely real-time to me since I never paused it.

Although I would have enjoyed a concrete confirmation from Brad on super weapons / units and Channeler duels. (The latter I concede is unfortunately not likely.)

oh man, bears are confirmed!   wait, this is the wrong July FAQ thread.   I call duplicate!

There's a pause button in SOASE? I never heard of it....

In any case, the top 3 things I still want to know about are:

  • How will the border work?
  • Is levelling linear or exponential (does it take the same amount of XP each time, or a steadily increasing amount of XP?)
  • I am assuming that, considering the low essence levels, essence-sucking spells are out by this point. Did I assume correctly?

I believe it was the pause button on a keyboard potentially pause / break.

It's a sad testament to boredom and desperation that even this thread has so many replies.

Not necessarily. "Low essence levels" relative to what? The only important comparison is how much things will cost - and maybe there will be spells with fractional essence upkeep. Not to mention there could still be some powerful spells that can be kept up for more than one turn at relatively high essence cost. If someone cast armageddon, a spell that rains fire from the sky, devastating the whole world for 3 turns you might be more than happy to put up a kingdom-wide magical defense even it did suck 5 essence from you.

But then we still don't know well enough how essence will be used, or for what, to do anything but guess..

Why should they be out? Costs adjusted here and there, and presto! We will test all this essence thing during the beta so no worries.

Just so "we" know what we are doing....

Trial and error, like everything else. XD And changes will be made during all the beta so not so really improtant how it starts but how it develops.

Damn, double post. Sorry.

Sounds like you have not been particularly involved with a Stardock Beta before.  It is as wintersong suggests, there are going to be changes, sometimes pretty massive ones, during the development process.  Stardock does their betas for more than "to let fans know what they are doing in time for release", in fact... I'd say that is the last reason they have public betas.

Because they expect to listen to your feedback and make changes accordingly, that also means the first few rounds of the beta will be quite limited.  (Frogboy's making them 2D to prove a point, because many people failed to understand this in the Demigod beta)  They are not giving it to us just to test for bugs or to check for balance (what most betas are) its to actually let users be part of the design shaping process to create a great game.

I actually have not been at all involved in any beta before..... but whyat I meant was that I hope we won't get too swamped by dubious suggestions from random people who have no concept of how to play the game, or are just trolling.

well, there will be some of that.  But stardock has been able to wade through the troll filth in the past.  I have faith that it will be fine.
