Community on the Edge

Many many post on the forums are currently sinking into depression.  Cries that the developers have abandoned us.. that frogboy don't care.. or that demigods have been back shelved for newer projects.  These are specifically coming from the lack of feedback of any sort coming from SD or GPG.

lack of content combined with unfixed bugs and no ETA for any new patches has really stunted the communities growth. Along with other MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games coming out like LoL and HoN there has been a steady increase of regular forum posters saying their fairwells and goodbyes.

before it was really Frogboy that kept us going though the real painful months after release.  constant reminders and posts as well as good discussion in the journals really kept the communities spirits lifted until the release of V1.1 .  unfortunately for the majority of us, some of the more trolling posters really chipped away at Frogboy and since he's return form vacation we've seen little to no activity from his end.

sure we, as the community, complain and complain about content and bug... and no amount of this complaining will speed up production in any way, but it was always nice to at least have regular posts telling us all to STFU.  the silent treatments (or what ever this is) is currently not just hurting the Demigod Community but also driving people away from future releases of games.

all we are asking for is a little attention and a bit of a reminder that we have not been abandoned by SD or GPG.  without a healthy relationship between the dev's and the community this game does not have a very bright future, so to keep that from happening (which no one wants to see) we would really like to see some responces from the dev's to at least let us know they still care.

Well its only been a week or two at most since the last feedback...gives the guys some slack? Am sure they are busy bunnies (infact their lack of communication could be a good thing, means they are busy working :) )

How often do the devs have to post something for you to be happy?

Play the game if it's fun.  Don't if it's not.

Demigod has so much potential and it would be a shame if it would die because communication between the publisher/devs and the community ceases and important content (team matchmaking, bug fixing, replays, modding...) is released too late. Let me say it again: Demigod has great potential but it needs developer and publisher attention to make up for the unlucky start it had.

I couldn't play online for 2 month after the release but I stuck around and waited patiently because I saw progress. Right now it feels like the game has been abandoned or put on hold - at least by GPG. I see a lot of work and news on SupCom2 but no word on Demigod from GPG on any plans for the future.

Frogboy, Stardock and GPG, please don't give up on Demigod! You guys have put so much work, time, money and late hours into the game, please don't give up now. We are almost there.

Let's see if we can get this thread deleted too.

P.S. This is GPG for you. They make great games, get 90% done, and move on.

The thing is, it's ok to complain... it's not ok to act like a complete jerk.  Why would a guy like Frogboy want to come back and post here?

I'm not saying EVERYONE is bad, but man... there really are some internet jerks here.

Ha.

There's no post from the CEO of the company in a little over a week and suddenly the whole enterprise is crashing down?

The problem is that there are several obvious and easily fixable bugs that have not been fixed (despite being known about for months) and not even acknowledged.  Some of these can be fixed by somebody in less than 2 minutes (see the Sedna High Priest bug).  Its difficult to explain why such things havent been fixed except to say that SD/GPG have moved on.

There are also some features that are really needed (some standard MP stuff that is promised in 1.2) as well as other stuff that was promised (at least 2 more DGs) and that stuff hasnt been talked about in a while.  It is a bit odd given the community's attitute that they wouldnt say anything about say their new DG plans since they should have been working on them for a while now.

The game was released in a bad state.  I think that if they expect people to hang around and not get upset about a game like this, that they need to go above and beyond on their communication like they did for the first few months.  This pacifies people.  If you have a buggy and incomplete game and no communication like we have had for a few weeks, people get nervous real fast.

In any case, the communication need not be from Frogboy.  They have mods and whatnot - let them communicate things if Frogboy is too busy.

Man, go to the SupCom forums, that's abandonment.

I don't think GPG has abandoned Demigod. They and Stardock did deliver patches that took care of the most pressing problems.

But it certainly feels like the GPG people don't communicate very much with the community. Stardock on the other hand does. I understood that's part of the deal they had.

Anyway, the DEVELOPERS forum for Demigod is here: http://forums.gaspowered.com/index.php?c=10&sid=1a2eeb40ef1533302ebe0fb811bab27b

Maybe they are more responsive over there.

However, they DO read this forum and I got proof: tummytempter from GPG posted in my thread. :)

PS: I think you are spoiled by frogboys past treatment of you. :D

Based on the last few 'official' posts that I've seen, I'm really not that excited one way or another.  What can Frogboy or any of the SD mods really say at this point?

"I told GPG that people wanted X, Y, Z, and those two new Demigods again.  They said 'k' and I think I heard some lol's in the background.  I'll let you know when I do it again."

Stardock was working directly on the major problems for the first couple months (i.e. connectivity) which made it a bit easier to update people on their progress.  Now that the focus has veered away from that and more towards the gameplay which, as I understand it, is entirely in GPG's court, what is Froboy going to be able to say to pacify anyone?  Is the above really all you need?

So you think the CEO not posting some crap on the forums every week is going to lead to the downfall of this game? There are plenty of things that will lead to the downfall, but I think that reason is pretty far down the list.

I've tried to make this point time and time again.

where in my post did i ever say that game will fail because Frogby isn't posting... try reading the whole post one word at a time before making posts.  what i said is that the game will do badly (not fail) if there is no comunication from the developers (and that means SD and GPG)

If Frogboy never posts on hereaain we will all miss him teribly however he's not the only one from SD/GPG with an account.  before Frogoy had said that he talks directly to GPG so many questions have been directed towards him since he took on the roll as forum PR, however if GPG were to start posting regularly that questions would get directed as needed.

we're not looking for a direct line into Frogboys office... or even for someone to hold our hands all the time.  we just need confermation that we're not alone on this forum.   in any other game this much dev feedback would make sense but with a MOBA which has a much higher consistancy of content and patches the dev's have to really step it up to see this succeed.

like Colonel_Jessep said, this game a lot of potential and no one wants to see failed potential.

Anyway, the DEVELOPERS forum for Demigod is here: http://forums.gaspowered.com/index.php?c=10&sid=1a2eeb40ef1533302ebe0fb811bab27b

and yes i have posted one there but its actualy worst off then here.  there wasn't even a responce form the community.

On the Stardock side of things, I'm pretty happy.  Frogboy has been doing a wonderful job of putting up with us lot and keeping us updated, for which I'm really happy, and Kryo has been very cool about helping people with tech support issues, both in IRC and on the forums.

On the GPG side, I'm a little disappointed, but still hopeful.  A quick shout to say, "Hey, we see those issues and we're working on them" would go a long way.  But if you compare GPG to Blizzard in the patching department, I don't see them as falling down on the job.  Even simple fixes take a while to package up and release, so its usually best to combine them into one patch and release everything.

Keep the faith, brothers, just make sure its not blind faith.

There used to be 3000+ people online, now its rare to see much more than 2000.

If you asked me, the community is not on the edge, most have already jumped...

honestly yall are complaining again just because no one high up has been talking to you. Which is very sad on your part.

It's always nice to hear from the publishers and devs(when it happens) but its not something that is required for the game to last and/or continue being great. And just because they get quiet for a few days or a week doesn't mean they've suddenly abandoned something as big as a game which costs huge amounts of time and money to build initially.

Don't be naive man. You personally witnessed the same thing happen with Forged Alliance.

And I'm sure everyone who's rational here can say Stardock's performance has been exemplary. Our beef is with GPG.

You guys are aware, of course, that Frogboy actually told us that his involvement in the Demigod community would be lessened once the connectivity issues were fixed, right? It has nothing to do with Trolls or the continual and unfounded negative comments, or with Stardock and Gas Powered Games "turning their back" on the Demigod community. The last update to Demigod was released two weeks ago. Seriously, how much babying do you guys want? Let's get some realistic expectations.

The negative attitudes of some of the people in this thread, such as:
There used to be 3000+ people online, now its rare to see much more than 2000. If you asked me, the community is not on the edge, most have already jumped...

are the typical "ZOMG SKY IS FALLING" attitude that is a persistant force on the forums of many games these days and it's kept alive and well by the simple fact that people don't see what's going on behind the scenes.

If you're unhappy with the treatment of the community, and frankly I think we've been pampered, then leave. You're quite welcome to stay, but for the love of all that is holy can we please stop with these "ZOMG DEMGOD IZ DED!!11ELEVEN! GPGSD R DRINKN OUR T3ARZ!!11!ELEVEN" threads. The game is three months old. If nothing changes in another three months, then you've got some ammunition. When the last update was released less than a month ago, in the realm of PC gaming, the game is considered very much still "Supported".

The demo will be coming out soon, 1-2 weeks i think.
