Tell me about your channeler

I kind of probed about this in the last survey, just wanted to share and hear a little more in depth of how you like to play.

I like trying lots of different approaches to see what works, but this is the "persona" that just feels right to me and is how I like to play when in SINGLE PLAYER mode. In multiplayer, all bets are off!

As far as diplomacy goes, my character is to typically be willing to be friends with AI, but I don't really push for diplomacy. I tend to trade and otherwise work with AI players on good faith. However, if I am ever backstabbed, I do not give my trust again. I may come to peace treaty, as long as I can make it costly enough on the AI. Otherwise, I pretty much become their avowwed enemy until one of us is dead. I pretty much just want to be left alone to build my kingdom without interference, at least until all of the available land is controlled. Then I tend to turtle rather than being the aggressor.

As far as expansion - I pretty much expand as quickly as I can until I start running into other players. Then I stop expanding to solidfy my holdings and from then on I am pretty conservative about expanding, making sure I have the forces to defend any new settlements.

Research - although I don't prefer to go for the "Tech" VC, if available, I still prefer to win by superior tech. In other words I go for conquest victories that are based on out teching my opponent. I usdually build only enough units to be able to turtle and focus on goin far up the tech tree, then when fighting becomes necessary I start cranking out masses of highly equipped troops.

Alignment - I tend to be mostly neutral with a tendency toward the light side as long as the game isn't designed to make good=stupid. I tend to be much more lawful than chaotic.

Probably the two biggest traits I would describe my Avatar as would be Honorable but also Vengeful - if you screw me I WILL take you down with me if that is the best outcome I can achieve. This goes double for a "good" civilization, i.e. I almost expect the backstab from the evil guys, but if a so called good ally turns on me in a moment when my jugular is exposed - it's personal, and I will throw everything I have at them.

Anyway, I am not expecting anyone to give anything away about their multi-player - but tell me about your Single Player in game avatars.

Wow, are you sure I didn't write that, Denryu? Seriously, you just described exactly the way I tend to play, with one subtle difference: even before I've run into other players I tend to expand pretty slowly, making sure everything is well-defended and that I have the necessary supplies/funds so that new settlements can get on their feet quickly. I tend to focus on only a few new settlements at a time and don't start anymore until the others are off life-support.

Mine is a crafter. He creates magic items, magical troops, and monsters. If given the chance, he would try to create a collection of strange monsters (many powerful) that would make any circus freak show envious. As for magic items, he would make some powerful, some cursed, and some a mixed blessing.

His favourite hobby would be selecting ideal candidates to be his champions, empower them with mighty magics, give them powerful equipment, and train them to use their new equipment and abilities. Once done, he would send them against his enemies to both test them, and to strike fear in the hearts of his enemies.

My channeler is grossly obese.   He loves to eat and laugh, making sure all his sla...  followers are well fed too.  He laughs with a great big belly laugh.

as far as diplomacy goes, my character is too jolly to start wars with other channelers, though he tends to stab players in the back when they don't expect it.  He expects AI to be predictable, so he tends not to surprise them with attacks.

As far as expansion - I pretty much expend to places with lots of resources.   I have a tendancy to run settlers across the map just to steal a good spot from an AI player than totaly suck up to the AI player so he does not get pissed and kill me.

Research - Although I like to get powerful techs and magic, I primarily focus on building economy and city improvement abilities.

Alignment - I'd say it could go either way.  A jolly happy good fat man is as likely as a jolly happy evil fat man (the later eats babies and smokes cigars)

I'd say the two biggest traites (its funny because he's big by himself) are "filthy rich" and "jolly" because if those were traits... I'd totally take them for this guy.

I smell a Harkonnen....

I like to go evil the first time I play anyway.  Slowly expand with solid borders with a heavy emphasis on researching/finding/making magical items/spells, etc.  If I become all powerful I like to totally seal my borders and see what the other factions do.

Back in MoM I remember creating a crazy powerful hero that could destroy any stack by himself...something I have yet to be able to do again...I guess I was better when I was 12. lol

Sure, I wasn't thinking of them, but that works.  I imagine they smell bad (he had boils or something on his face, right)     (I was thinking of governor phat from monkey island 2, except with magic powers)

Hmmm. I like diplomacy and alliances.  I find personal satisfaction in working strategically and tactically with my allies in taking down more powerful enemies.

I tend to be very protective of my allies interests.  I am also quite happy to win diplomatic/alliance victories.

Hehe, during my younger years I used to play a lot of multiplayer wargames with friends.  Myself and a friend by the name of Tau were the most capable strategists/tactitions out of the group....and wars almost always tended to come down to him versus me.  In fact, him and I developed a sort of 'hate-on' for each other 'in game' and would never ally with each other.  The whole game point of the game for the both of us was in killing the other guy.

Because I was honest in my dealings and generous with my allies, players who were falling behind would go out of their way to ally with me.  Also, since I would hold a grudge, my buddies would always stay true to their deals in fear of getting on my 'kill on sight' list.

Usually as the biggest power and the most capable at managing/coordinating multiple factions efforts, I would end up taking a sort of 'leader' position.  So, my main opponent (Tau) started calling me 'Puppet Master'.  At this point, Tau could no longer win any games as 'Team Puppet' would always crush him (often long before I would even reach him in the game).  Once he stopped playing out of frustration, our gaming sessions came to a close.....ahhh, good memories!

...So, who wants to be a proud member of 'Team Puppet'?

I'm really secretative. I'm also the ultimate user. I will use anybody and or anything to get to my goals.

Meaning I will make alliances and keep them as long as it,s profitable for  me to keep them. When It's time to move on I never hesitate. I will always honnor my arrangements while in an alliance, but I won't be afraid to brake one when the time comes.

IN Galvic2 when I knew I would loose a planet I would destroy it instead of giving it up. When I conquered a planet if I knew it was not a good idea to keep it I would also destroy it.

In Mom I would throw away entire stacks just so I could move ahead on win that magic item.  I always think of my own people before anybody else. I am totally loyal to them, everybody else are tools. In this fashion I am ruthless. My channeler is made of marble. He cares for noting but the survival of his people at any cost.

If you cross him he will never forget. You might think everything is fine and dandy but in the end you will pay...

I really like him...  *_*

Like pigeon, I find your total OP pretty close to a sketch of my own general playstyle. But when you put this bit into words, well, it looks to me like 'turtlers' have spawned their first true subspecies--snapping turtlers.

Grand Theokrator & God-Lord
Emperor Varenus

our Sovereign and Master

Emperor Varenus is a builder. A creativist and creator as well as the highest instance authority within the Church (formally 'Church of the Creator' although the full name is rarely used within the Hierarchy) being the living embodiment of the creative force of the universe, the Avatar.

Thus he is also a force of peace throughout the lands. Preferring to act as the proverbial bulwark against the wasteland and it's inherent harshness and corruptive influence, Varenus can be considered a "progressive isolationist". Avoiding conflict as often as possible, he tries to play the political game  whenever he can, while refusing to make concessions on part of the Hierarchy. As much as possible, he rules from seclusion, rarely mingling with personas outside of the High Court and the Ecclesiarchy.

The Emperor favours a mix between specialized heavy bear calvary, vast amounts of conscripts as support, and quick guerilla actions carried out by the newly formed military wing of the Officio Imperialis.

Varenus is generally honourable and rarely, if ever, betray any amount of trust vested in him in the grand scheme of politics, but may make territorial demands on behalf of the Ursaris people that are hard or impossible for a prospecting ally to meet, resulting in inevitable conflict. He is often content with the solidification of natural borders, preferring a 'cartographical symmetry' to that of the endless sprawl of territory.

The priorities of the Emperor is by far and wide technology and building, followed by solid defense coupled with politics, and only after that, military prowess. The doctrine dictates that the one with the highest flexibility and societal might will inevitably be victorious, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

Making use of those avatar pictures already!   good job

I'm shocked at the lack of words "bear", "ursine", or "rawr" in your post though ^_^

When I get into the game itself, I'll form a persona.  Even when I did roleplaying in the past, when creating a new character I learned that I didn't do well forming up a detailed backstory - because events that develop in actual game-play can conflict with these 'past' events.  So, I tend towards creating a concept/feel for a character.  Then develop it as I go along.

But I wanted to comment on:

"Research - although I don't prefer to go for the "Tech" VC, if available, I still prefer to win by superior tech. In other words I go for conquest victories that are based on out teching my opponent."

Yes.  This speaks to my compulsive need to have available all tools possible within a game, given whatever limitations there are within the rules or game mechanics.  So, for example, in GalCiv2, I love research.  Getting a new tech is like a level-up *ding* which makes me drool like Pavlov's mutt.  I tend to disable all victory conditions except conquest.  So, continuing with the GalCiv example, I don't do diplomatic, tech, or cultural victories.  I want to blow things away with all the high-tech weaponry and gee-whiz gadgets I can produce.  I intend to do the same in Elemental.  And.. if we're able to create our own custom spells through research, it is entirely likely that I'll get lost within that aspect of the game.  Because that speaks to the mad alchemist that lies within me.

I want to play at least one game in which my channeler believes he is dreaming, so acts haphazardly and uses risky tactics because "What's the worst that can happen? I will wake up!"
