practical and advanced weapon and armor enchantments

traditional speaking, most game Arms and Armor (A&A) enchantments tend to be simple in that they provide either defensive or offensive bonuses (some with elemental effects as well). Now what i'm suggesting is not more variety or more complexity but something more practical (or impractical depending on your interpritation).

first have any of you guys heard of "journey to the west". basically, it is about a mystical chinese monkey named Sun Wukong (i think... it's one of his names) or the Monkey King. Anyway he wields a magic staff that can change it's length, diameter, mass from as tiny as a needle to, well, as massive as the Empire State Building. I'm using this example to give you guys an idea of a theory i have in which a pike and a simple ball mace are fused into one weapon where all the wielder has to is command the weapon's shaft to either extend outwards for a pike formation or shorten back for melee. think of the versatility and effectiveness an army of guys wielding this weapon (which i affectinately called a War Lance).

Another enchantment that would be sweet is something along the same line as the Protoss plasma shields. you know, a magical shield that acts like a mix between additional body armor and extra hit points that regenerate over time. A very handy enchantment for your elite troops to have.

And my third enchantment idea is something like Aengis Fang form the Icewind Dale Trilogy. A melee weapon that is not only throwable but will also return to it's wielder. Talk about causing a few WTF moments when foe's troops charge head on at your unit of Hammermen as your men thrower their returnable hammers at the incoming enemy force.

Okay i know there are some balance issues with these three enchantment (and they should more likely be seen in late game). But these imbalance can be easily resolved by the traditional factors of TMR (time, money and resources).

Well what do guys think? got any other enchantment ideas that we shoot around.

Well, bommerang enchantments are always fun....i.e. the enemy can never steal the item or knock it away. Also, perhaps a sowrd that can split in two, or a regenerating throwing weapon.

Its hard to say what we would be able to do. I get the impression that the devs are not going to making a game where every mundane unit so they can be somehow be very unique like they did in Dominions 3. In Dominions 3 you had afflictions such as a "lost eye", "diseased", and other stuff like "cursed", etc... It might prove to be a pain if every mundane unit was that detailed in this game, let alone to have special player designed equipment on top of that.

I'm not saying I'm against the idea, I'm just saying it be a pain to program and manage the stuff.

However, it might be much easier if you could make champions and heavily customize them. Make them stand out and show the world why they are champions and not mundane units.

I don't know if Elemental's tactical combat will be that deep. I wouldn't mind seeing something like what you discussed. I however think item customization will be limited to damage and maybe damage type. I would like more options but I just haven't gotten that impression so far.
