Bans , Banning, You Are Banned, We Need A Banlist

Bans , Banning, You Are Banned, We Need A Banlist

As the DotA community found out, in order to fully enjoy this style of game, you must keep certain people from your games.  In style of DotA, Demigod also needs a Banlist.  One intergrated into the game.

So as I sit and wait minutes upon minutes for a game to start, we're down to waiting for the last player to join. A player, disliked by the host, joins the game and the host kicks him... player rejoins... host kicks him... player rejoins... host kicks him... player rejoins... my game crashes!  Probably from the lobby being all screwed up.  So seriously, at this point, I'd even settle for a 'Ban Player From Lobby' option just to keep certain players from rejoining a game after they have been kicked.

I do not know in how many Demigod game lobbies I have been in where a player is kicked and rejoins after every kick.  This is annoying and it just wasted my time as a game that was about to start crashed as I already mentioned.  There are so many hosts out there with no clue how to open up an additional slot, unless you are playing a 5v5.

Anyways, Stardock, please do not cater to the morons out there.  We need some sort of player banning system so hosts do not have to deal with the immature, idiotic, and moronic... not to mention, the jerks.  Not only this, but some people will get into a game and produce massive amounts of lag, sometimes making the game unplayable.  Perhaps it is not fair for them when they start getting banned... but this is a game I want to enjoy, and if they do not have common enough sense to take their PC to a shop for a cleanup (maintenance), if they do not have the knowledge to do so themselves, than why should they be allowed to sit and ruin a game for multiple players?

The fact that you call anyone who disagrees with you an 'RQ'er' speaks volumnes about the strength of your argument, imo.

Well, the point he makes is fair, though.  Why would someone else having a personal ignore list bother you?  If someone goes nuts with their ignore list and only wants to play with a select few known people, what difference does it make on your end?  If you've done something (intentional or otherwise) to make someone irate enough to add you to their list, why would you want to play with that person again anyway?

I really don't understand the opposition to personal lists like this.  I know the word 'banlist' sounds harsh and maybe that's drawing a knee-jerk emotional reaction but I can't picture a problem with people deciding who they do and don't want to play with in a custom game.

Seriously if we just called it an "ignore list" and it had the same functionality most of you wouldn't be so up in arms.  Calm down and think about it rationally.

Sounds much akin to an ignore list....seems acceptable to me if that is the case.   Global banlists sound like a poor idea to me.

Personal banlists?   I wouldn't mind that, I could ban/ignore the player that was being a pure @%& to even thier teamates the match I played awhile back and that would be great to have implemented within the game.

The best idea would probably be to call it an 'ignore' list and simply make it so that they could not join games hosted by you, and or also somehow implement it so that you would be aware of if you were joining a game which involved them (a red flag or some such business) so you would be joining at your own risk.

In addition this would make it so that someone you have kicked from your match could not rejoin, as at the moment someone can just spam join your hosted custom matches even if you kick them (which is obnoxious - they should at least be kicked for that game instance, or for a certain time period, or until the host re-affirms thier ability to join the match in case it was on accident).

If you want to not play with someone else.....that seems reasonable.   Sort of like giving someone the thumbs down on xboxlive so you are less likely to be matched with them (I believe that is how it works).

If you ban me on a personal list, and I've done nothing to you, then who cares? Chances are you're an asshole and I don't want to play with you anyways. Global banlists are the only complaint on my side.

i think this has beeen gone over so many times it should be set in stone     give everyone a personaly one  and not a global one

start a global ban list and you'll see that you won't be able to find anyone to play with. People will ban other people for no reason.

go ahead isolate yourself from the community and play with bot. XD

or even worst ...ban for because they have win the game...

Few games support ban lists, and unless a player is cheating he's tolerated (albeit with much bitching). Most MP games, aside from a few I won't mention but you probably know them, are rigorously monitored by anti-cheating systems (like Punk Buster) and the server host themselves. When playing World in Conflict players leave all the time to be replaced by bots, and noone cares...we're having too much fun.

I raised the issue of having a high ping before, but I persevered and connected to a game yesterday, and as can be common my ping was 400. I offered to leave the match, being polite, and was asked by several players not to do so. Before the match started I wanted to make certain so I restated: "Just ask, and I'll drop out". There was no reply, and instead I was kicked! This is not a MP community I am used to, and so far I'm not real impressed. Now I rarely try to join a match online, at any time of day, and unfortunately my love for the game is copping a thorough hammering. This idea of a Ban List just adds to my negative impression, and will probably put off a lot of newcomers to the game.

at this rate the game will be dead or virtually dead before 09/09/09

Herodotus,

Having an auto banlist doesn't actually change anything for the person being kicked, it just saves effort on the host's part. If someone screws my game up by RQ, lagging, or sim-lagging, I'll make a note of their name and kick them if they join my lobby. An automated feature just makes this process easier. If I don't want to play with someone, I'm not going to be forced to, and I don't need to give any reason for it other than "because I say so" since I am hosting a game. Others are more than welcome to treat me in the same manner, though I take care to stay cordial with all members of the Aussie DG community that aren't on my list.

I hope it works, and as an Aussie I'll be sure to watch out for you on the game lists (might be fun). But just who will monitor the auto-ban list? There is no "all seeing cow" for Demigod (the ban site for all MP FPS cheaters), and GPG will be too busy on an expansion...hopefully. There are also some honest players who don't know why they're being kicked (there are quite a few who don't take ping into consideration), so they keep trying to join. It's a sticky issue, and we're going to need all the players we can get when League of Legends arrives.

The ban list idea isn't centralised, its a personal one that you add to yourself, so there's no need for any monitoring of it...as I said, it's really no different to the manual system of writing people's names down and kicking them by yourself, or leaving if they join a lobby you have also joined. Everyone has their own piece of paper rather than there being one big piece of paper that everyone adds to, and the effect of a banlist is simply to automate something that is quite tiresome to do by hand: write the names down, check names in each lobby you join against the list, check people as they join against the list etc. There's no extra functionality being offered by a personal banlist, it's just automation of something that people are already doing, and will continue to do.

Some people just don't get along, a banlist helps keep them away from each other in games.

It also has the potential to plug into Pantheon and Skirmish, since the matchmaker can be informed of who you don't want to play with and adjust accordingly, which in the current system is done by looking that connection window and then leaving, which is definately a worse situation.
