Favorite Game

The title is pretty self-explanatory. What is your favorite game, and why?

Mine would have to be Okami. The art style was incredibly beautiful and the brush stroke techniques were fun and innovative. It was also one of the few times I played a game where I actually got a little teary-eyed at the end. Not because the ending was sad, it was kind of bittersweet but mostly happy, but because I had just finished the best game I had ever played. I ended up playing through it another 3 times and unlocked all the secrets. Okami really deserves a sequel, and my only complaint is that it was too easy, as I never came close to dying across 3 playthroughs.

So what about you guys?

Why has no one mentioned Freespace II? That game was so awesome, and now the open source community has their hands on it and its even better!

thats just my favorite flight sim, I'd have to say my favorite game would probably be, well heck I don't know, I've played WAY to many.

Probably FS II is as good as any I could name.

Wait a second, I'm forgetting Ultima IV.
Shaped my current thinking on video games as well some things not related to games at all. During the course of the game, the player had to adhere to strict virtues - had to be kind, honest, caring, selfless, etc - to succeed. Basically invented the whole "Good/Bad" system, punishing the player for being bad by not allowing them to proceed.

Either Sins or Metal Gear Solid 4, its got an awsome story, great characters (espicaly Raiden), and great online multiplayer.

Finally figured out what I like about Metroid: the storyline was very open-ended, and as opposed to just finding missions you had to explore this entire world, revisiting places you had been to and uncovering new items each time around. Never seen a "flow" quite like it. Closest thing was Zelda, but even then there were strictly defined "dungeons" that became relatively moot after you played through them once. Also, the environments were REALLY cool. I could spend hours just wandering around the Sanctuary Fortress in Prime 2. In fact, my only real complaint about Prime 2 was that the weather before you messed with the energy controllers always looked better than the wather afterward.

I sunk a huge chunk of time into Oblivion, but I think my all-time favourite would be a toss up between Alpha Centauri, Lemmings or Secret of Monkey Island

Lucasarts: X-Wing and then Tie Fighter. Spent endless hours on those games. I wish they made more games like those.
