Favorite Game

The title is pretty self-explanatory. What is your favorite game, and why?

Mine would have to be Okami. The art style was incredibly beautiful and the brush stroke techniques were fun and innovative. It was also one of the few times I played a game where I actually got a little teary-eyed at the end. Not because the ending was sad, it was kind of bittersweet but mostly happy, but because I had just finished the best game I had ever played. I ended up playing through it another 3 times and unlocked all the secrets. Okami really deserves a sequel, and my only complaint is that it was too easy, as I never came close to dying across 3 playthroughs.

So what about you guys?

Has to be Metroid Zero Mission. Dunno why. A lot of other games have more unlockabes, areas, and so on. Mybe I'm just biased b/c it was the first game a played. Ever.

Halo, my first shooter ever, no regrets. The reviews are self explanatory. and

Star Wars: Empire at War     because it is fairly easy to mod.

In no particular order:

Project: Snowblind. Most overlooked shooter ever, and one of the PS2's best games.

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. Lighthearted take on the series; the endings are hilarious.

GalCiv 2: Dark Avatar. No explanation needed.:andrew:

Nexus - The Jupiter Incident.

Not many people know it but it's an awesome game.

I was really sad when I heard the developer went bankrupt and the sequel they were working on would never be released. X(

Supreme Commander :D

No irritating ability micromanagement. Among many many other things

Oh, and it's not like 90% of other RTSs where almost all of the actual fighting between units is done when they're in spitting distance of each other.

Edit: Or Nox. Nox was an amazing game and multiplayer was crazy twitchy fun. The Line of Sight made the game increadible as well :D

Planescape Torment.  The graphics aren't great, seeing as it was made 1999, and its gameplay is generic Baldur's Gate style, but oh man.  Oh man oh man oh man, was its story good.  I think of it more as an interactive novel, though.

For a more gamey game, I'd rank Psychonauts pretty high up there.  Highly original and beautifully crafted, you can see and feel the love the producers put into it.  It's just impossible not to enjoy.  Unless you have an aversion to platformers, I suppose.

I'm also getting into this cool new game called Demigod.

I would say that the game that has always been my favorite is the original Red Alert. I'm a sucker when it comes to stories and no other game has ever developed a story the way Red Alert did.

This may be abit biased becaused as a kid i was introduced to Red Alert before i even knew about the Tiberium universe. The story in Red Alert was expertly told through movies that were considered to be quite advanced for their time.

After being introduced to the Tiberium Universe with Tiberian Sun I shat my pants when I realized who Kane was and how awesome the story had actually developed. Then EA bought Westwood and the whole thing went downhill from there.

The same thing can be said for warcraft. Warcraft 2 was one of the first RTS games I had ever played and the story just completely immersed me in the gameplay. Then WCIII came out and the whole story got pretty !@#$@#$ up. To me it was like they recycled the story from starcraft and adapted it to the univers (swarm vs Scourge & Kerrigan/queen of blades vs Arthas/Lich King) For me its the story that makes a game great. Graphics and actual gameplay come second. I know not everyone thinks this way but i do. This is kind of qwhy i also like sandbox games like GalCivII. It enables you to make up your own universe in your mind for the game you're playing. I have an AAR if you guys are interested, Im not an ccomplished storyteller by any means but for me the story is what makes the game.

cheers

If it's a game that's stood the test of time for me it's probably Crimson Skies, best damn flight sim I've ever played (need to give TIE fighter another go before I say it for certain, tho). The entire atmosphere of the game is magnificent, and the voice acting is spectacular. Plus the planes are crazy awesome. Shame I think XP's the last os it'll run on.

If they'd just gotten time to finish the damn ending I'd feel very similarly about KotoR 2. Best written bunch of NPC's I've ever seen in an RPG. That and Kreia is simply magnificently written. It's also very interestingly done, seeing as it's almost entirely about what the PC experiences and his character development, and you can't help but feel affected. Really, REALLY wish they'd had time to finish the game, cause the ending sucks and the cut content would have resolved nearly every noticable problem with the plot.

I understand what you mean. The story and characters in Okami are one of the many reasons I loved it. Lost Odyssey is also a good example. The story itself makes little to no sense, but the dream sequences are some of the best writing in video games I've ever seen, and I would actually recomend buying Lost Odyssey based on the dreams alone. Not to say that the gameplay isn't fun, of course.

Edit: I've never played Crimson Skies before, but I think it's on Xbox originals. I loved Ace Combat 6 and I wanted to give another flight game a go. I'd have bought it already, but the prices on XBL are a little high.

I tried to install it on xp and i couldn't get it to work :( I agree with you tho it was an awesome game and the planes were pretty damn cool.

edit: I don';t think cromson skies for xbox and crimson skies for PC were the same game really. Kind of like how the first call  of duty for xbox and PC were nto teh same game. different stories and charactes but similar gameplay.

You're right. I looked it up and the PC and Xbox versions of Crimson Skies are actually two different games. The Xbox version was some sort of sequel, but both were well recieved.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I got it working on xp. try mucking about in the compatibility settings, I guess.

If you have an old enough os kicking about, I'd recommend checking out the pc version of cs, you can get it on amazon for about 5 bucks. I never got to try the xbox version, though, I think I'll get it sometime. I just hope the voice acting is as good as in the computer version, nathan zachary's too cool a character to have a bad voice actor =p.

I have to say fallout 3.  It's a beutiful game in almost everyway.  It is very replayable and I put many hours into that game.  Also all the halo games including halo wars.  I just love halo, especially the story of it.

A few games pop up in my mind:

Black & White: Seriously, there's no other game that actually made me LOVE an in-game thing. The creature really became your own, you could teach it anything. Seriously, just writing about this game makes me want to play it again (and cry because of the utter failure called B&W2)

Fable: It's the only game I've completed over 10 times. I just loved everything about the game. Fable 2 is great as well, but haven't played it a lot yet.

Kingdom under fire: Crusaders: I don't think many people have heard about this game, but in my opinion, this game features the best story in a game I've ever played. The Strategy parts are great, the Hack&slash parts are great, the RPG parts are great, everything is great in this game :D Heroes was fun as well, although it felt less polished and I hated that all characters had different voices now

I seem to have trouble with games. I have played many but never have seemed to enjoy them.

If I determine what my favorite is based on length of actual play time I would have to say:

1) Final Fantasy 1 (nintendo) & 2 (SNES) tied.
I have played them, easily, the most and still have the cartridges, even though I do not have the game systems.

2) Age of Empires 2 (PC)
Because my friends and I played this for multiplayer for about 3 years, circa 2005-2008

3) SoaSE
I can mod this and spend a decent amount of time playing. I wish more people would play my mod online with me, but wth can I do about it lol.

Easily Okami - the art, the storyline and, of course, the gameplay were all astounding, though while the combat was great fun, I'll agree it was too easy... eve on boss battles I rated badly on, I never came even close to dying.

An honourable mention from my good self goes to the Guild Wars series (again, fantastic visuals and fast, accessible action, though the first campaign was a little rough around the edges), and Sins (for reasons we're all familiar with).

I have three games I always go back to, with none of them being the clear favourite.

1. Deus Ex.
Changed how I view video games from the moment I played it. Emergent gameplay as it's very best. If only Bloodlines had of been given more development time, it may have replaced Deus Ex. I guess we'll never know.

2. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
The setting, the lore, the craftsmen ship of this game; blew my mind the moment I turned it on and I'm still playing it. Best Role Playing Game ever made in my opinion. Would have been my undisputed favourite if it had of had more depth ala Morrowind.

3. Baldur's Gate II.
The game is a legend for a reason. The best D&D Computer game of all time and Bioware's finest hour. A little linear in the end, but oh so involving. "Go for the eyes Boo, go for the eyes!". The only line of dialogue I quote from a game.

XBOX 360: Halo 3 ... even if i'm not so good at FPS on console ... <3 Mouse+Keyboard ... Halo 3 is just great, Single and Multiplayer.

Adventures:

Day of the Tenctacle ... Hellyeah ... best game ever! Legend of Kyrandia (if anybody knows?) ... Indiana Jones, Sam and Max (the original one) ... and some more ... *sigh* i mess those games :pout:

I never actually finished Oblivion. Been meaning to do so but I always buy a new game before I finish the old one.

Hmmm back in the day ... a little game called head over heels on the c64 ... Still the best puzzler out. There is a modern freeware version for the PC .. check it out

YEs someone for Deus Ex. That game was fantastic.

I've also been racking my brain a bit after the little chat about Crimson Skies and I've decided that my favorite flying game, even if ti takes place in space, would Tachyon:The Fringe. That's also a very cool game. The different directinos you could take and the way the game was somewhat open ended was really cool for me.

I loved that game, I'm pretty sure I have two games where I did every quest available in a town, and there are so many fun mods I think I have more gb worth of mod than original oblivion, so yeah, it's one of my favorites. I just wish the swordfighting was a bit better somehow.

Pros: Excellent interface for those of us that didn't want to whip out the joystick. Great graphics. Very good story line.

Cons: Virtually no gameplay after the story was finished.

Digital Anvil did an awesome job with this game and I did like the mouse nav system because it was easy to pick up but agree that the joystick would have added more depth.

Homeworld

Pros: True 3D space RTS.  It was not 3D based on a 2D plane. You actually had to work with all 3 dimensions in battle and with nav.

Cons: Took a while to get used to the ship/group manipulation.  Frustratingly slow movement when docking/deploying ships.
