strategist, the only easy way to create a set of reference files for the version of sins that you have is to use one of the convertdata GUI's like mine in this thread

Galaxy Forge has been crashing when I start it up on Vista. I have .Net 3.5 sp 1 and it still crashes

Shoud I delete my old tools i.e. (Galaxy Forge, Particle Forge, Forge Tools) and reload the the new ones, or will they merge?

the developer and convertdata's are now included with  the updates to sins/entrenchment & diplomacy, the partical forge as far as I know has not changed, the reference files in the forgetools are no long useful as the WILL CAUSE minidumps if used as sins is at 1.181,entrenchment is at 1.041 and diplomace is 0.85. if you need or want the latest reference files then I suggest using one of the convertdata gui's like dekanrics or mine (https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/353296)

I just loaded GF3 and can't seem to get SinsPlus planets to show up in the `planet type` selections. I put the folder in 'my documents', in a sub folder with GF3, PF3 and a fresh copy of Forge Tool. Should I put them somewere else? Or do something else?

Also; I look at the the galaxy templates in galaxy forge 3 and didn't see Star Bases to place in templates. Can we place Star Bases in our templates? Or even an alternative way to do so.

Does anybody have any solusions...

copy the sinsplus 'GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef' into the galaxforge folder.

regards the starbase I know of no method of placing a starbase in a map, BUT distant stars mod has done this for their pirates so there might be a way

What's the difference between Galaxy Forge & the map designer in game?  I may have missed something along the way within the forum messages.

 

Also, is there a clear cut way of installing Galaxy Forge?  Or just extract it to the SINS subfolder?

With the Galaxy Forege you place the stars and planets exactly where you wan't them and then make your phase jumps between the ones you want. (i.e. putting in every thing, you have to make it) The in game map designer you set parimeters then the map is randomly generated each time you play a new game.

I put my GF, FT and PF in 'My Documents' in one subfolder. I don't want to junk up the sins folder. then i opened the folder found the Galaxy Forge icon (.exe) then made a short cut to desk top.

You will need to download Forge Tool to make Galaxy Forge work. simply download both and extract; you can make a folder and both of them in if you want.

Had an exception when trying to start Particleforge under Windows 7 enterpride 32 bit in Kernelbase.dll

 

Running dxwebsetup fixed that for me! Thanks for the advice in this forum!

redline989, that has been happening since sins 1.16. all i can suggest is downloading one of the text-bin utilities like dekanrics, or mine which you can get in my modding utilities pack. I would suggest the 1.19 download as it has the latest versions of all of my utilities, and was intended to work with the current sins/entrenchment/diplomacy versions

Could we get a copy of the reference data for Entrenchment 1.05, I have a feeling a number of key lines were changed in the ship entity files, thus producing errors when you run developer exe.

ben I have already uploaded my reference sets for sins, entrenchment AND diplomacy back on the 18th of febfor dip 1.01, the rest were on the 10th of feb.

This release really needs to be labeled a BETA because I have tried every possible combination (and I am a programmer!). I didn't realize it was released YESTERDAY and I spent a couple hours making a huge map just to realize it's buggy. Here's my custom .galaxy and it DOES NOT WORK WITH 1.19 (original or Entrenchment) no matter what folder I put it in (individually tested all possible folders, that's with XP SP2, .NET 2.0 latest Entrenchment & Diplomacy). Main considerations: randomize false, playerId 0-2 added (to fix starting positions, is 1.19 intelligent on this?). Maybe it's just because my gravity well size is 750 for each star?

Ignore my earlier post, I managed to learn how to convert Binary to Text. I was correct though, the reference Data was out of date, thus producing errors when I was trying to Mod. I simply converted the Entity files from the Game itself and problem solved. Many thanks everyone, Ben.

we have been saying that te reference data with the forge tools is no longer any good because it is for sins 1.15/entrenchment 1.00 not the current sins 1.19/entrenchment 1.05/diplomacy 1.01

fcsvc, the CORRECT location for the map IS the user space GalaxyForge folder, and to specify a planet ownership/home planet the planet MUST have

        owner "NewPlayer0"                for player 0 ownership

after the pos line and the playerid# line you edited into the file would also be adding to the crashes

 and from the little i can see of the player setup you also have problems there this is typical of what should be a 3 player definition

Instead of using a GUI to convert the .entity files to TXT or back to BIN, you can just use a batch file to do it for you.

 

* Place the ConvertData.exe in the directory with the .entity files you want to convert

 

* create two .bat files. One for converting to TXT, one for converting to BIN

 

In the TXT batch file, copy and paste this:

FOR  %%I IN (*.entity) DO convertdata.exe entity %%I %%I txt

 

In the BIN batch file, copy and paste this:

FOR  %%I IN (*.entity) DO convertdata.exe entity %%I %%I bin

 

Running them will convert all .entity files in the same directory to BIN or TXT

yes, that is the older way, and also makes it easy to crash sins as sins prefers the files to be bin in the program files sins folders, also that is basically HOW my textbin gui works and is fiddly to do, but it does work

I don't find it fiddly.

Just double click txt.bat, all .entity files become TXT

no wasting time converting one file at a time, this converts all of them at once.

you only have to copy the TWO bat files AND the convertdata into the folder,

THEN doucleclick on the batch that you want in the folder,

THEN do the same again for the next folder etc,etc,etc,

that is why I call it fiddly,

also the batch ONLY converts one file at a time, it does not and CAN NOT parallel process as the convertdata AND batch are executing in the same thread.

In one of my early development versions without the delays it was able to MAX out a QUAD core cpu for the same time that the later version took with delays and pauses to allow other tasks to happen on the computer NOTE the no delays version STILL took the same time to run as the with delays version,which indicates that the convertdata's are the bottleneck with BOTH batches AND gui's.

with my gui it can convert an ENTIRE mod for example or a COPY of the game including all folders in one run, with the batch method you have a minimum of four runs of te batch, one for gameinfo, one for meshes, one for windows and the fourth for particles, my gui does them all in ONE run admittedly a longer run, but also reports on any files that fail to  convert, or were already in the wanted form, the pauses for errors are from the convetdata's crashing NOT my gui

I have XP Pro with service pack 3 and galaxy forge will work but particle forge will not what do i need to do to make it work.
