What type of mods are you lookiing to make?

Depending on what you are trying to add to the ships you can easily add items from the editors included in the TA version. The editors are easy to use and allow you to make loads of different types of mods for your ships.

If you are looking to do something other than this please let us know a few more specifics to enable us to better assist you :)

I'm new how do I make mods where are the editors? I want to increase the carrying capacity on my ships.

The editors came with the TA expansion. You should be able to access them by using the launcher (double click the desktop icon) and select the "Editors" buton. You should get a list of editors from there. Mind you, they are not the best (the tech tree editor will attempt to modify the prerequisite tech for the first entry) so you will want to learn how to do things manually.

If you can't find the launcher, you can try looking here for the tools:

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\GalCiv2\Twilight\Tools

I'll check back tomorrow to see if you have any other questions.

"Add the "cheat" command line parameter to a shortcut to the application and you need to add it *outside* the quotes that enclose the application path in the shortcut."

How would I do this?

Go into the game folder (it is under "C:/program files/stardock games/galciv2/(whatever expansions you have will be in subfolders named after the expansion)), locate the program app (NOT the quicklaunch window, the actual game) and make a shortcut using the rightclick menu. Then rightclick on the shortcut, select "properties", and add "cheat" (no quotes) to the end of the "target" field. Be sure to add a space before it!

I've added the extension and it shows up as a mod directory but I can't use the command keys that come with the cheat. What now?

Add the "cheat" command line parameter to a shortcut to the application and you need to add it *outside* the quotes that enclose the application path in the shortcut.

Example: "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\galciv2.exe" cheat

Code: Result:
CTRL + [V] United Planets Meeting
CTRL + [B] Add Battleship
CTRL + [C] Clone Selected Ship
CTRL + [0-9] Hail's Major Races
CTRL + [J] Complete Social Projects
CTRL + [R] Research Current Tech (Hold SHIFT for ALL)
CTRL + [H] Heal Selected Ship
CTRL + [T] Teleport Selected Ship to Cursor
CTRL + [L] Assigns Remaining Planets to Major Races
CTRL + [S] Save
CTRL + [A] Upgrade Selected Ship
CTRL + [M] Add 10,000bc
CTRL + [N] Restart on New Map with New Race
CTRL + SHIFT + [D] Spawn a Minor Race
CTRL + SHIFT + [T] Hail Yourself
CTRL + SHIFT + [J] Completes Other Race's Projects
CTRL + SHIFT + [X] Quart. Report
CTRL + SHIFT + [B] Spawn Different Star Bases
CTRL + SHIFT + [M] Change Alignment

And how can I find a mod that makes ships have more space and componets cost less space? Or Make one?

Again, the editors are your friends. If that doesn't suit you, you could always just open up the GC2Types.xml and increase the capactiy field on the hulls while decreasing the size and sizemod fields on the ships.

What about the cheats? I'm not partiually fond of them but there are some cool ones there.

I did that but the only directories that show up don't work they are the default ones.

And sorry to say this late... does it make a difference if I have the Ultimate edition?

Are you referring to the subfolders for expansions?

I do not have the ultimate edition, so I don't know exactly what to expect, but it should be in the same place, just called GC2Ultimate or something like that.

Yes

They probably wouldn't be there in UA. Just look for the icon that starts the game w/o a quicklaunch window.
