Summer '09 has arrived...

and it's gonna get warm.

Apparently us poor bastards in Melbourne [Australia] are in for the hottest stretch of days in 100 years... [bit tough for the Oz Open [tennis], too]....

Today it'll be 38...

Tomorrow [Wednesday] 41

Then 40, 40, 40, 30, 30.

Yes, that's centigrade....for those still in the dark ages that's [C x 9/5] + 32 = Fahrenheit....;)

You poor bastard.

BrisVegas is a little better than that at the moment. I was starting to complain about the weather here, but you've convinced me to stay quite.

Keep cool mate.

My sympathy...starkers and Tailsgirl have been posting about the heat, and you, I believe posted about the brush firs and a lake catching it too.... Sorry about that, Jafo...Right this minute it's snowing in Cincinnati, Ohio where I live. C'mon over mate and take some!

One very inexpensive but very efficient way to cool a room rapidly is to hang a soaking sleet and turn a fan on it. Magic.

Did it during the Israeli summers and in the Sinai as well....give it a shot and see what you think.

We were doing that back when I was a rug-rat...in Mildura [north west of Melbourne....just a tad east of Maralinga [slightly different 'heat' back then http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_nuclear_tests_at_Maralinga ].  It was 115F the day we left there for Melbourne, back in '59 ....;)

I love Melbourne heat...dry....

I remember, during a portion of time growing up in Melb....weeks on end of clear blue skies..and temps well over 100...

and sitting out at Kooyong....watching Margaret Smith...when they announced it measured 125 on centre court....the heat just funneled ...with no breeze getting down there...

Sydney's hot days end more often than not with the inevitable thunderstorm...and the horrible humidity.....I'd rather 40C & humidity in teens.....than 26C...and 80-90 odd % humidity....

ahh...I miss Melbourne's dry heat...especially, since Sydney has been sooo humid this summer...(100% today  X-( )...and going out to the tennis....

wonder what the electricity usage will go up to....with all the air cons and fans on....

Was that YOU...crikies...thought it was my kid... :w00t:

Well...then you know how well it does work. Get crackin'!

Humidity @ 100%!!!!! Sheesh!...Haven't they advised staying indoors? Sydney...that kind of heat kills. Sweating won't help if the humidity

is that high. Best climb in the fridge with some chocolate ice cream and wait it out.

41C = 105.8F philly

Sydney had a 111F  (44C) on NY's Day a coupla years back...an absolute oven....birds just sitting on everyone's balconies with tongues hanging out....and holding up bowls of water for them.....no fear when it comes to being that distressed...

the old Coolgardie Safe method....

it's not that hot with the 100% humidity today DrJ...a cool change yesterday and some rain..has just made the humidity very high today....and tomorrow...when it heats up again....won't be comfy....

Spoiled brats!! ;P

It's grey, dark, cold and foggy here. And when I say cold, I don't just mean a 9°C "cold snap" either!!! (that's what they used to say in Townsville).

Care to send some of your heat north?  :)

Given that I can raise as sweat mowing the lawn on a cold Winter's morning, I hate the heat bigtime... moreso when the humidity is up aroud 80% or more.  I have crushed nerves in my neck (the result of a spinal condition), and this causes me to sweat profusely even doing nothing when temperatures soar,

It's 29c right now and the humidity is 69%, so it's not as bad as it has been... we've has some days in the 40's, Jafo, so I know what it's like and feel for you all down there in Melbourne and Adelaide... yeah, they're copping it as well.

I'll tell you what superman, some ice cream wouldn't go astray right now:grin: .. I wouldn't know whether to dive head-first into it, or EAT it.

Best bet would be to have the maid run a nice cool bath to sit in while you EAT the icecream. :-"

Oops, I forgot, you're not a banker and don't have servants.  Oh well, next best thing!  Invite yourself over to a banker's house while he's out - I mean, we can't have you actually mixing with a banker in person - and hop in his pool to eat the... uh, his icecream.

Oh, and if you cant leave a 'real' deposit behind, hehe, throw in a Pollywaffle when you get out. :w00t:

Well, I take Ice Cream even in Wnters (Temp in winters here is 4-18 degrees)...

I wont advise Ice cream bath though.. You can dive into swimming pools...

I'll tell you what

I can remember a commentry from my fav game EA Cricket 07...

"I tell you what he scores the vast majority of his runs through the leg side."
