Stargate Atlantis News

In two weeks on SciFi Channel, the final 3 episodes will begin airing, and, if I heard correctly, this will be followed by the Series Finale.

It is planned to go to 2 hour direct to DVD format after this.

Next year, there is to be a new series: Stargate Universe.

Lousy writing and (for the most part) even worse acting?

I was mainly meaning in comparison to shows like the Stargate stuff, which I've pretty much watched completely but would have to say is on average way more badly-written and badly-acted than Trek stuff, or even just the Enterprise subset.

But I guess what I'm more interested in is why a given 'basic Trek fan' would single out Enterprise as some especially great disappointment. I got into Voyager, but it never got me over my aversion to Kate Mulgrew the way that Enterprise helped me learn to tolerate Scott Bakula. And at a basic level, the writing seems so similar to me across the whole TNG+ stretch that I can't see how someone would single out a particular series as worse than another. Specific writers, maybe, but the volume and weight of 'notes' from corporate surely helped hammer out most authorial individuality...

One week to go until the next Atlantis episode.

What a way to end the series:

Atlantis is back on Earth, outside San Fransisco Bay!!! (Cloaked)

Eh, I'm sure everyone appreciates the spoilers :D

What a weak ending, I must say.

What chance that the (super) hive ship did not transmit Earth's position to other Wraith?

And please...! An entirely new propulsion system (that was very buggy, at best) in the very last episode that allowed Atlantis to reach Earth in just the nick-of-time?

SG Atlantis has been on a back-slide the whole season. And the ending just proved it.

You guys are assholes!!!  Pleas add a spoiler text and hide the text.  Seriously, not cool.  Some of us TiVo shows, we'll that sucks the fun out of that one.  Thanks again.

Since SciFi Channel showed it friday night, it is not a spoiler. If you are THAT ticked off at me, why don't you report me to the mods and admins? Being banned from here cause you think I am a JERK does not bother me one bit.

I don't care to have you banned.  I would appreciate it if you had some common courtesy though.  It is common practice to include spoiler in the topic heading or if you are not the OP to hide you spoiler.  Anyone on the strgate website would do that, go take a look.  Even if the show has already aired, others may not have seen it.  Again have consideration for others and understanding that you are not the only important person in the world.

And what would be the approapriate wait time to no longer use spoiler tags?

What about those who wouldn't see it til it hit DVD?  Do you wish people to not discuss the show that has aired already for months and months just to make those people happy?

The same night would not be appropriate.  If you discussed how you didn't like it, but hid specific details, that would always be fine.

I only mentioned one thing, not the details of the entire episode.

If I posted alot more details, I could understand you all going ballistic on me.

The last episode was " OK" , but it leaves alot of room for a few movies ..

I hope they take the time and make 2 or 3 DVD movies based off Stargate

Atlantis ...

Looking forward to the new series ... :D ..

Eh, the ending was nothing spectacular. The plot line for the episode was incredibly weak and unexplained (about all I can say without spoiling anything) and the ending was too goody goody.

They really should've dumped the Wraith and stuck with the stranded Asgard. It was the best plot hook they've had for several seasons, and they wasted it in a single two-parter.

I won't watch any of the straight to DVD 'movies' of SG-1 nor Atlantis for the sake that I'm not THAT interested in it at that point.  Ok, so the franchise doesn't make enough money when it's on TV vs it's cost to make.  Perhaps that's a hint to hang up their hats.

Supposedly, SG-1 movies were extremely profitable. I don't see this as "the series isn't profitable" but as "the movies will be more profitable than the series could have been".

Yeah, the straight-to-DVD SG1 movies actually were profitable. They cancelled Atlantis the series to do a few of those. They just released Ark of Truth on Blu-ray, which they probably wouldn't have done if it tanked. :P

Well, I've stayed clear of the thread until now. I just finished watching the last episode (Watched all seasons over the course of this week), and I really, really enjoyed it, with the exception that I think it should've really been spread across two or even three episodes. There were just so many different things that needed to be done at a ridiculous speed to cram it all into one continous episode - which explains the sudden apperance of wierd new propulsion systems. Not even a three-ZPM powered Atlantis or any of the Daedalus-class ships can pull off anything as ridiculous as what the ZPM-powered Hive Ship did.

Overall, I really enjoyed all of Season 5 a lot more than most of the other seasons and even though I've never really been -that- huge of a SGA-fan, I'm really, really sorry to see the show go. I'm also sorry that they still haven't ditched the dead weight that is Teyla, someone I've been hoping they'd kill off for the past 5 seasons.

I -kinda- agree with you there. I was expecting a lot more out of the Lost Tribe, and I'm sure that had the show continued, we would've seen a lot more of them. I think it'd be a mistake to just "wrap up the Wraith" though. In a series, I'd have to say that you'd have to do it progressively - something they'll obviously not have the chance to do now.

:(

Edit: Hey, found a petition. Almost 33k signatures, not bad. Not bad at all.

But they already did a while ago. It started with the Wraith being a collective "bad guy" race, something they could be afraid of. That all ended when they gave Michael way, way too much screen time. It wasn't about the Wraith as a race anymore, it was about him (and later, Todd). That pretty much killed it for me. It was like if SG-1 kept fighting the same single Replicator for 20 episodes, and it just kept coming back. :P If they kept the Wrath-characters down to a minimum and kept the show about fighting the actual, you know, Wraith.. I'd agree with you.

That last episode failed. Miserably. They tried to cram what should have been a three parter or possibly a two part movie into 43 minutes. It could have been spectacular, but instead it was too fast and far too unexplained. And the wormhole drive? Seriously? Zalenka may well have said "This is an engine. It is made of plot. Let's use it." (Oh my god, they went to PLAID! (Obscure reference, sorry)). The massive wraith plotship was also kinda dumb. I liked the idea of a super powerful hive ship, simply because it seems like Atlantis sort of made the hiveships into target practice, whereas they were once big terrifying impossible ships. Sad. By the way, what was the point of the Sun Tzu, other than to show just how very serious the situation was? They introduced it, in order to destroy it.

So, yeah. I'm kinda dissapointed.

But i will look forward to the movies with hope. Ark of truth was pure win, even though COntinuum wasn't too good (They killed Ba'al! NOO! Those d**m dirty apes!) Atlantis, go forth and conquer the dvds.

I don't think it was necessarily a bad thing that Michael kept coming back.  I doubt he beat Apophis, Tanith or Ba'al in that category, anyway.  I think if any villain character used up more than their fair share of cat lives in Atlantis, it was Kolya.  Michael's main flaw was unchecked arrogance, if he'd really gone to ground after his defeat instead of making a desperate snatch for Teyla and her baby, he wouldn't have gone for a bungee jump without his bungee cord.  Oops.

I completely agree. That whole wormhole drive was such a terrible idea. And it was totally unnecessary, too - they could have just not made the regular hyperdrive fail and have them arrive on time anyway.

And the fact that the ZPM-powered hive ship was about to completely annihilate the Ancients' most powerful ship ever, powered by 3 ZPMs. That kind of bothered me.
