how can i use convert data and what folder i put in

ok what you do is that you have to learn how to use command line

then once you know how to use it, paste the convertdata, into the gameinfo folder

ok go to your command prompt, once you started that go to the folder you mod, or where you paste the convertdata,

assume you pasted into your gameinfo data in the default, type cd.. until you get your drive name (c:\ for example), type in c:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a solar empire\GameInfo, replace c:\ if you didn't save to c:\, you have to type this in, you can't copy and paste in command prompt.

Once you are there, type convertdata (entity, mesh, particle, brushes) (file) (save to bin/txt) (file)

you can use convertdata for entity, mesh particle and brushes

how about the convertxsi.exe........hows that work

as for that, paste that into the folder that you xsi files you want to convert. same as convertdata, paste that into that folder, use your command prompt again, go to the folder you have it in, just for this example sake: I have saved an xsi file in My Doc on d:, and a file name test.xsi

so i would type d:

cd My Doc

convertxsi.exe text.xsi test.mesh

and press enter

what you want is the galaxy forge3 for sins 1.15/entrenchment 1.01, then work throught the mapping tutorials(https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174739, https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/163650, https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/342195, and others) and for advanced mapping templates then read https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/339832 and https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/329520

hope this reading helps, I am making several maps of my own so should be able to help with advice and suggestions

well the problem im having is not using it it's getting it from the rar file, im not sure how to extract it or what ever i do to actually run the program.

first google winrar or 7zip, download and install either program, then you can extract the rar. on vista/windows7 you can not extract to the program files tree, so I suggest under my documents, then create a shortcut on the desktop to galaxy forge.exe and then start working through the tutorials

kinda funny, if you Windows has a native zip file opener yet it couldn't open rar or any other compression format
