I wish the rules had live folders as a must do

the last 7 icon packs had no live folders & I think about 2 or 3 have had which is great I just wish this was part of the rules system I feel it would have made them better that they were ready straight out the box cause there are so many great ones to have:wc:

Agreed. Also I wish they would put in the description if there is Livefolders in the package. I've dl a couple of them just to find out and then had to delete the package.:'(

Snowman a Livefolder shows what's inside the folder. Only in Vista.

Only problem with this is that it would mean only those who use Vista could enter GUIC, XP users would be able to create live folders by looking at other sets and seeing how but would not themselves be able to test that they work properly.

True, but a lot of XP users create Vista WB substyles without knowing if they work or not.

If they dont have live folders, then I don't use them.

same here

I agree, or if they do test them use the same method with the iconpacks maybe?

The problem with not having live folders is that Vista uses them for default tree and listing views so that when an icon pack is installed you almost don't notice it on vista if it doesn't use live folders.  So it renders the icon pack much less appealing on vista as the icons most seen (folders) are never changed to the new pack if it doesn't have live folders.  Some of those great entries are only good for XP.  :(

In my case, since I only have XP, when skinning for Vista, I need to rely on my  "testers" who have Vista installed on their puters.   This entails alot of emailing back and forth of screenshots to get the adjustments etc, right.  And I am sure most other wb skinners do this as well, and not just hope for the best .

The same process could be used to check icons as well, I believe.

then xp users wont be able to even create them!

Not true.

My last few packs have Live folders and I currently only use XP.

Thats how I've done it.

My GUI entry will be Vista ready!

Why not use Vmware and just install a vista trial version?   I use it as i run vista main and xp in vmware - its really good

MS provides the Virtual PC software and a XP and Vista virtual disks for free too.  It doesn't support everything SD apps can do but it can handle most.

While live folders are not required in an icon pack, those that do use them will be at an advantage over those that don't if it comes down to a technical comparison between the two.

Some of the icon packs in the GUI have live folders, Nightlit3 for one.

Completing WOM´s input...

So far, there are only 5 Icon Packs that can realy be considered Vista ready in the competition: Yuuminco, Partikle, Nightlit3, Junior and Plastic Fantastic. (by order of date updload)
