Congratulations Dems!

Congratulations on your victory democrats.

America has chosen to go the route of wanting to the government to take care of their lives, and this election will be the new beginning of the next nanny state where people won't have to worry about anything....the government will be there to help you out.

Obama ran a brilliant marketing campaign that pulled the wool over the eyes of countless Americans.  It will be interesting to see how his supporters react when his marketing "shine" wears off, and we see how his inexperience and socialist leaning affect the true hard working Americans.

But since "fairness" was a theme we heard over and over, I will do my best to treat Obama with the same fairness and respect as democrats did Bush.  :)

Wait a minute. "Congratulations", for you, is:

"Well, your side cheated and manipulated to get victory, and you will regret his victory later" in a sugar coat?

You can keep them, mate.

The reaction from the right to Obama winning is reminiscent of what the left was saying when Bush was elected... that the American people were idiots for electing him, that they had been fooled/lied to.  That it was going to lead to a theocracy etc.

I'd rather we wait to see what is actually done by the next administration before we demonize them and declare them a failure preemptively.

On the plus side, at least no one on the right is claiming Obama isn't their president etc.  That pissed me off to no end.

Why are you calling him a socialist? He doesn't even come close to that! There are no socialist politicans in the USA.

I don't think Obama was the best thing for the Country but he won. I'll live with it. I guess it's a hold over from serving in the military but as Commander in Cheif, I respect the Office not always the person holding it.

To the liberals I say....you better get your shit together and get things done......because now..... there's no one to blame. I get this vision of them wanting to blame republicans, then realizing they can't, and rolling on the ground like fish out of water till their heads explode...........

The last time the Democrats owned Congress and the White House was when Carter was President and we all know what a shit storm that was.

Something I noticed this morning, was that I didn't see any conservatives running around saying they are leaving the country.  It really says something about the different mentalities.

Although I am weary about the amount of fraud that might have happened this time around, I don't think Obama won by cheating, I think he won by marketing, not experience or qualifications.

Will people regret has victory, absolutely they will.  The messiah-like following he has achieved was impressive, (and a bit creepy), but I don't think he will be successful as President if his past positions are any indication.

I so await to see the government of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid.  They are in control of all branches of government, so now the blame will fall squarely on them.  Have fun America.  :)

I guess Ben Affleck and Streisand are moving back in.... Oh wait, they never left.....

What we need to do now is find a way to become one of those that does not pay income tax, that will be my goal now.  I will control to whom I give my money, not someone who has little experience in such matters.

In a year where it should probably have been a Democrat landslide (like Reagan winning all but 1 state and DC) it isn't, why not? Why couldn't Obama seal the deal with a very large amount of Americans? Am I disappointed? Sure, but no sour grapes here. I'll give the new president my support, until I see the direction of his policies for myself. It will be difficult not to be drunk with power since the congress has shifted even more to the left. Clinton was kept in check by a heavily Republican congress. Obama will have none of that. The last Democrat with that kind of power was Carter, and unfortunately we see how that went for the country.

What I find interestingly amusing is that when the Republicans controlled congress it took them awhile to ruin a good thing and they were punished (rightfully) by the voters for it. The Democrats have been dragging congress into the ground now for two years (from the get go) and were rewarded for their efforts last night. The lowest ranked congress ever! Go figure.

In a way it's very refreshing all the Bush haters will have to take a hard look in the mirror, especially if something goes wrong as they won't have their favorite whipping boy (along with Chenney) anymore. It will be interesting to see how they defend "their" guy when this event that Biden spoke of, that "we might disagree" with Obama, will happen.

The US really has reached the apex of affirmative action, as it has now extended to the presidency. Let us all hope the rookie is a fast learner and that nobody has to pay dearly for his on the job training. It really is true that there is nothing money won't buy in the US, the media, even some voters. I have to hand it to Obama he did a remarkable job and deserves congratulations from everyone regardless of political affiliations. I also hope this will take out the stench of racism that seems to get tossed as a convenience, we'll see. A truly historic event to be sure.

You also forgot to point out Nitro that people voted for that which they were against this year, a dispicable rich person (since most people saw rich people as dispicable, that would make Obama one as well, right?). Kinda ironic, don't you think? Unless people are being racist and believe that he is different from other rich people because he's Black.

I don't think Obama fooled or "pulled the wool" over people's eyes.

I think Americans, at least a majority, simply want the federal government to take care of them.

Or maybe they don't want the federal government to spend our last dollars destroying what remains of the hope, decency and inspiration that the United States used to represent.

You're wrong.  There is nothing to gloat about, and no retrospective self-recriminating mirror-peering now - it's not like you're handing over the keys to the Ferrari, where only Obama's skill level would determine the smoothness of the ride.

Republicans are giving the country back the Chevy Nova.  Thanks for handing over the keys to the Pinto, with the engine exploded all over the highway.  The vehicle this country is going to be driving to work needs a serious overhaul.  Unfortunately for the Unites States and for the rest of the world as whole, we're going to be feeling the unholy effects of this Republican era for a long, long time.

And...how did it do that?  Getting rid of Saddam and setting up a free, democratic Iraq? I mean what?

I could have sworn that the Democrats have been in control of congress for the past 2 years.

Please feel free to name the single policy that Bush instigated that made the US a "Chevy Nova"?

What unholy effects? Ask the average Iraqi how they feel about getting rid of Saddam or the average Afghan? The media, no friend of Bush, has conducted countless polls on the subject over there you know.

As a European by-stander, I feel qualified to comment on this. I have no problems with America. Tru, many foreigners think less of the US now than they did 8 years ago, but I am not one of them.

What I hear from those that do think less of the US today (and among my friends this is actually a majority) is not so much the war in Iraq. Nor is it the fact that Bush lied about the WMD's. What really pisses many people here in Europe off is the whole "let's do away with human rights for terrorists" thing - most notably represented in Guantanamo and that act that did away with habeas corpus for foreign combattants (forgot the name of the act at present).

No matter how evil a person may be, the general feeling here in Europe seems to be that he still has basic rights, and the US has - in their view - violated those rights gravely.

Anyway...it doesn't really matter one way or the other, but if you wanted an explanation on whether the reputation of the US has suffered, and why, I think this at least partly explains it.

as someone who is firmly against affirmative action, i can say that this had nothing to do with such a policy. he won, plain and simple. if you really believe the economy is headed for disaster then do your patriotic duty and make yourself heard - you guys seem incredible talented and capable of getting your message across.

look, four years ago i took the kids i worked with in inner city DC to a fancy
restaurant and they thought they weren't allowed in because they were black.
that they are seeing this historic moment - and it would be the same joy for me
if it were Powell or Rice - that they can see the American ideal remains in place.

i've traveled the world, and there is no country more dedicated to inclusion and
equality. so take pride in your country for that victory, one you can value
separately from that of a Democrat winning.

Exactly and look at the gobs of money that was handed to Obama.  I mean really, dollar for dollar, Obama should have received a much higher vote count.

Imagine how there might have been very different outcome if the Obama campaign shared their wealth with the McCain campaign and all things were a bit more equaled out.

If you're up for some amusement, check the Fox News Forums.  There you'll find plenty of people talking about moving to other countries, including Mexico.  You'll find people claiming that the Antichrist has won, the End Times are upon us, the USA will turn into the USSR, blah blah blah.

What amazes me is how quickly people-- on both sides-- jump to suspicion, paranoia, and hatefulness and believe that somehow this will improve the country.  For America's sake, get over yourselves.

If nothing else, some of these comments here and other places have proven once and for all that Republicans and Democrats have more in common than they might care to admit.  Supporters in both parties adhere to the same political mantra:  If you can't win, whine.

I would rather too - but then conservatives are tired of the left and their Bush crucified Christ mentality.

I for one will wait until he screws up.  But I will not be forgiving when I print my "told you sos".

Nice little new speak.  I take it either you - A - dont know what socialism is, - B - Dont understand the US, or - C - are trying to lie about what Obama has campaigned on.

Then why vote for Obama who has promised to do just that?  No, Brad is partially right, and Charles is mostly right.  They were voting against, not for.

What a great day!    The RepubLIE-CONs are basically dead and they can't ruin this country anymore.   Good bye corruption, lies, hypocrisy, greed, and ineptness.    Hello President Obama and the Democratic Congress who can finally get some work done.   Step 1 - start the cleanup of the Dumbya disastrous years.   USA finally got some respect back - the world is a better place and its people know it.    Well done, Voters!   Now, let's amend the US Constitution to make the RepubLIE-CON party illegal and stop the fake, judgmental, hypocritical people who call themselves "Christians" and only care about making all women have all babies and stopping gay people from their US Constitutional right to pursuit of happiness illegal aliens who need to be deported to one hideous state where they can annoy each other and stay out of government and people's private lives.    And good riddance Dumbya Bush, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and Sarah Airhead Paid Lyin.    It gave me great joy to watch her cry because she did not win the beauty pagent she ran to be this country's VP!    What a terrible, embarrassing joke she is!

President Obama is a beautiful, intelligent, poised, professional, loving, honest man who will do a great job.   He is just what this country and the world needed after 8 dismal years of corruption, hypocrisy and ineptness.   It is a beautiful moment in world history.   Today, I am proud of my country after being humiliated and embarrassed by it during the past 8 years.    New Rule:   No more stupid or unethical people in high government office.   That means you, Sarah Airhead Paid Lyin.  She is a disgusting human being who fought to further divide this country and make the right wing radical crazies angry and violent.   Her career is almost over - now that Alaskans have seen just what they have as a governor.

I for one will never call Obama the President.  He had the right to not put his hand over his heart for the singing of the National Anthem, I have the right to not call him by is new title.  I think for now on I will just refer to him as BarryO.
