Hello everyone,

Just a little post inviting anyone who is interested in making a SoaSE mod (either good, bad, expert or beginner) for any reason...(adding a new race, new ships, only little balance of game), to step forward and try to form a team!

Even if all you have are ideas for mods, write them down and I'm sure together, we can accomplish them and be like all the great modders out there (*winks at DANMAN, SpardaSon, ManShOOter, and all the other ones I missed)!

I have the culture planned out, and have started on the freemen planning phase. capship abilities may change, and probably should.

 

 

The purpose of this mod is to create a total conversion for the game Sins of a Solar Empire into hard science fiction(1). wapons reaserch will be done by reaserching spicific compaines who may give a variety of bonuses based on that companies wares. this reaserch will be expensive. also availible is government sponsered reaserch, which is cheaper, but does less.
The reserarch trees will also change. now it will be government and private sponsered reaserch.

Factions:
1. Pirate: yes, it's been done to death. Only capships will be able to colonize. weak economicly and culture-wise, they will rely strongly on missions and alternate sources of income. able to trade through black markets, which add to culture. many levels of weapons reaserch, but very expensive. their ships are generally painted black with or hace the look of stealth figthers to them.
Capships:
a. "mininova": carrier. Has colonize, ion bolt, strike craft, ?. starts with 2 hangers. can fire on fighters.
b. "Daemontools": Ground pounder. powerful at bombing planets, long range combat. Has Raze Planet, renamed embargo,?,?. looks like a gun battery with thrusters.
c. "Limewire": Ship to ship. has colonize, dirty bomb, renamed malice, and disintergrate.
d. "Alchohol 120%" scavnger: has colonize, crew derelect, crew empty building, embargo renamed

2. "The Culture" Economic Giant, they get a lot of economic and culture research, few weapons research and expensive ships. their basic frigate is stronger, but most of their other ships are weaker. their ships tend to have longer ranges. most of their ships are armed civilian ships, and as such have weak hulls. their stuff is more expensive, but they can aford it because their economic reaserch is cheaper. in order to gain acess to more powerful weapons reaserch, they must reacherch wartime economy, which takes a great deal of time but can be started early. must do reaserch for some capships. they are a very prosperous nation who had not fought or many generations. lots of diplomacy reaserch.

c. "Zakawe": carrier, starts with 4 fighter bays. has antifigther missiles, antiship missiles, one laser array ?,?,?,?

3. "confedration of free states": a supremecist nation who has been at war constantly for the past 4 generations. They view it as their duty to eliminate anyone they can, as the weak shall die. in their eyes this is the natural order. they are strong when it comes to bombing planets and damaging structures, and have no mercy about using any kind of weapon. a branch of their tech tree is devoted to unconventional weapons(nukes, bioweapons, chemical weapons, etc). while they share a common hatred of outsiders, they also, when lacking a better enemy, host vast interfaction wars over things like weather slavery or genocide is better. their ships are more accurate due to the large number of veterans crewing them, but tend to lack fighters and antiighter weapons.
a. "Totenkorph": battleship with several gun batteries. resembels a 20th century naval battleship with its namesake symbol across the bow. painted black hull with white symbol. finest hour, disintergrate, incindary ammunition, dirty bomb
b. "Grand Dragon": Support battleship with 2 laser batteries, anti ship missiles and antifighter missiles. shaped like a stick of deoderant, but wider. has ?,?, Resonance Bomb (deals massive damage to a planet but little to the population high antimatter cost), Retrovirus (kills planets entire population high antimatter cost)

The Monarchys: a series of small monarches afiliated only in name, they have been at war with the CFS for a generation. the kings and queen range from selfless to corrupt. their economy is average. there is a warrior tradition dating back thousands of years to the origional colonies of the late earth era. they are strong at fighters, and are outfitted with many gunports on their ships. they tend to cost more, as thir ships are gaudy and regal. their cap ships are more expensive. capships have high culture repel rates.

b. "Solomon": carrier.  starts with 3 fighter bays. multuple laser batteries. heavy strike craft, colonize,?,?
c. "Elizabeth": support ship. 1 fighter bay. mostly guns. has a high culture repel rate

Earth Colonial Authority: the remains of the origional colonial authority before the Seporate Peace. when the colonies declaired independence, this organization fought valiantly to keep humanity under one banner. functioning like a mix of marine core and navy, they were not spared the splintering that befel the colonies. the loose alliance that lasted since the fall has fianlly cracked under the strain of too many competeing charismatic commanders. they are rediscovering their origional mandate of "one race, one banner". noable for stock ships, which are a little cheaper, of average firpower, but have fewer abilites. noted for a refusal to use WMDs, their planet attack shows troopships departing, which are less eficient. after all, it is about uniting, not killing, right guys? they look like the tec whose newer designs resembel modren aircraft. their older ones are blocky.
a. pilgrim: 1railgun battery, 2 fighter bays. colonize, raze planet,?,shock and awe
b. "Juan Rico": troopship/battleship ?,?,finest hour,"Mass landing"(custom: instantly takes planet aslong as there is no hostile culture, required level 7)
c. "Smedly Butler" Battleship. Finest hour, power surge,?,?
d. "Simo Häyhä" Support Ship. Several battaries of railguns, missiles, and antifighter small arms. long range, but fragile.

Freemen: the usual targets for the CFS, they are the remains of the rebellions of hundreds of rebellions by oppressed ethnic groups. usually losing the battles for their freedom, they escape to fight against tyrany another day. they use weaker ships that move faster through phase space. usually have small caliber guns, large guns, no lasers and few railguns . their fleets are described as a flotilla of scrap. They fight all other factions on the grounds that they are exploiting the underclass. communist, so lower amount of money from taxes. their ships are asymmetrical and obviouslty scavenged. early reaserch into scavengeing feilds allows them to build ships for 25% cheaper. thy use some of the sam black market techs as the pirates.
a. "Trotsky" High culture repel and missiles. renamed phase missile swarm,?,?,?
b. "Flotilla": appears as a fleet of small ships starts with 4 figthr bays.  has colonize,crew derelect,"Alpha Strike: they all pause and fire at the same target",?
c. "Spartacus": the most respectable ship in their fleet, it is meerly an obsolete battleship
d. "Equalizer": And planetoid with many fighter bays and weapon mounts. additional reaserch is required for this expensive monster. supermassive health, armor, and damage capibilities.
e. "Kalashnakov" A large cruiser with many small caliber guns. has a high dps, but is very fragile. also cheaper



weapon concepts:
Rail guns: acurate, long range, powerful.
Gauss guns: accurate rapid fire, small.
cannons: average accuracy, variety of rate of fire, variety of damage
grapeshot: antifighter, accurate, close range, low damage
missiles: accurate, variety of ranges, variety of damage
lasers: accurate, low rate of fire, high damage super long range (may be innaccurate on ships that are not turreted. may be set in batteries, but willstill have high cooldown)
Small caliber guns: innaccurate, high rate of fire, low damage
Thermite based: damage over time
Acid based: damage over time, weaken armour
Cluster munitions: area of effect, high damage
explosive ammo: area of effect
charge capictors: low damage, but overloads all of a ships systems, shutting them down

strike craft: effective against capships and planets

(1): hard science fiction, to be refered to as hardsci from now on. hardsci is science fiction categorized by using only known entitys. most technology is based on extrapolations  of current designs. gameplay wise, no plasma, beams, shields, or other magic. expect railguns, lasers, missiles, cannons, gauss guns, and other modren stuff. the basic rule is, "if you can't explain how it works, you can't use it."

Nice!

I love the Ship names....maybe wanna add the Han Solo ship with the pirates. The ship would be bloody fast and heavily armoured..only backdraft would be that you can only build one inside the entire game (Hansolo has only one life you know ;)) .

Weapon wise, the Han Solo would be jam packed with 2 ballistic missile launch tube causing massive AoE damage at long-range. He could also have Computer Control technology, taking over ennemy ships (rallying them to his cause).

As a buff, he would boast the attack power of friendly ships in gravity well by 50%..or something like that!

 

Looks like a nice conversion ;)! Lot of work though....but what doesnt require work !

In your series of races...we might wanna add my race 'The Nephils' (which I started modeling for...)! He's a pretty long overview...with intro ;)

My turn to through something down!

Ever had the feeling you were being observed...or notice that whatever you would do, life would always be generous to you. You know..the Truman Show feeling! Well guess what!!! IT'S ALL TRUE!

The story of mankind is nothing but an intergalactic broadcast led by a mysterious race, known only  as the Nephils.  Though, the human specie is unique and evolved now, it was only thanks to the innovative ideas the Nephils graciously gave them. But not the give idea you might suspect! Hell no..the Nephils are sleek little bastards who enjoyed watching humans suffer during the prehistoric ages. Only when their ratings started to go down, did they decide to give the humans a challenge. And thus, a few days later, a meteorite was diverted using the Salack's Preparator gravity-impulse weaponry and was set on a collision course with earth. The blast, which was closely calculated and monitored by the Nephils obliterated all dinosaur life form, burnt forests, in an attempt to gather humans, who up until then where  everything like animals.

Later on, they gave them fire (which was ignited by firing an ultra-precision wave beam on a tree), taught them how to tame (a mental confusion beam aimed at a pack of wolves which rendered them completely helpless), to believe (a Nephil used a cloaking device to masquerade himself as a human 'saviour' and martyr and introduced the concept of God) and to wage war (well they didn't really have to implement that because after the introduction of the religion concept to the humans, they begin killing each other in the name of that religion!  A back draft which delighted the spectators) .

The show was an interplanetary instant hit..with aliens login in daily to watch the latest human 'discoveries' and screw-ups. Wanting more, the Nephils introduced science, computers, chemical toilets, even the Internet (a fragment of a Beregion BattleFortress's mega drive) was introduced to them.

But then, the Humans went too far. In the year of 1969,  an unpredicted solar eclipse shrouded the Nephil's transmission satellites for a few hours. Those were the last hours of the show. Because at exactly 13h41 on that dreadful day, the humans launched a hidden space shuttle (at that time two of the Earth's biggest nations were at war) aimed at the closest asteroid that they had named the 'moon'. The event would have been a climax in the Nephil's show had the shuttle not collided with the Nephil's DataCompilling Periphery which gathered all the transmissions and patched them together to make the best episodes possible.

The show was cut out for weeks (in addition to the few hours of the solar eclipse) while the Nephil's mended the damage. Unfortunately, back on Earth, debris from the crippled station had been attracted by the Earth's gravity well and crashed throughout the planet. Humans analyzed the wreckage and discovered EVERYTHING about their past and about their hidden puppeteers. The news sent waves of revolutions across the planet as people began to demand retribution for having been nothing but the centre of a joke. In the months that followed, international quarrels were put aside as the Humans united against this common foe. War industries were reopened and spaceships began spewing out of them like they were going out of style.

The curtain had fallen for the Nephils which, not only lost their most profitable show, but  found themselves facing an opponent which, even though they were inferior in technology, had an indomitable determination.

The Nephils:

Overview: Being intergalactic television broadcasters, the Nephils have are always on the move for the latest trendy show. In other words, they are extremely mobile people which never stop scouring the universe in search of new and exciting locations, races or artefacts to forever secure their position as No.1 intergalactic broadcaster.

Colonies: Nephils do not colonize, on the other hand, they place furtively place transmitters on every planet they travel to. These hidden cameras basically start a new show and gather income depending on the strength of the opposing player. I.E. on an undiscovered planet, I could place a transmitter which would generate  2 metal, 2 crystal per second, a measure which would reflect the interest of other races in watching the show and the income that is provided through merchandising. Furthermore, a fully loaded planet, would bring in 18 metal, 18 crystal, as other races adore the show.

These probes would be invisible to the other player unless he creates a broadcast center in which he gets an option allowing him to detect hidden transmitters, or a ship with high-frequency sensors, capable of  'spotting' the emanations.

Ships: Like I said earlier, Nephils are weak. Being a broadcasting network, they contain no military force. However, in the light of the conflict with the humans, they have developed a system capable of mimicking vessels encountered in their shows. Therefore, it might be possible that a TEC ship would encounter a Bismarck Battleship, a 15 century Galleon or who knows...maybe even the Galactica. Their diversity is their strength.

Combat: All Nephil ships contain no shields and minimal weapons in order to grant them the fastest speed imaginable. Also their jump speed is almost instantaneous.

Technologies: Nephils specialize on technologies allowing them to better hide their probes and/or unlock new human (or even alien) vessel designs.

Economy: Nephils are masters of economy. In other words, as long as their probes remain unscathed, they will perceive an INCREDIBLE amount of funds. Destroy the probes...and their shit out of luck.

Nephils vs. others: On their own, Nephils tend to be weak, fragile as it takes a while to mimic recent human ships. On the other hand, in a team, they can be the backbone, deploying probes in allied colonies thereby guarantying herself a really safe and steady source of income which she then can spend on new vessels or give to an ally which is in need.

Monarchy- Yes my Lord! Allows more powerful defenses applied on ships and structures (i.e Ships hull, shield) and focuses more on Colonial research. Quality is better than Quantity

Factions to be add

Humankind Empire Abh- Originally came from Earth and Genetically Enhanced Human Beings. They call them selves as Kin of the Stars since they Live on space, not on planets. They advance on ship Productiion, travel and Defenses. They start with 2 Imperial Super Battleship/Super Carriers/Super Cruisers(Very different from capital ships with very much larger HP'/Hull/Shield and has very good defense bonuses) at the very beginning

Z.A.F.T.- Zodiac Alliance Forces Treaty. Alliance of Five nations originally came from earth and somewhat advance on Armaments. they imply Mass defense tacticas and shadowy offenses. They Imply the use of Mobile Suits a newly developed humanoid type of weapon perfect for Space Combat which can be carried by any ship with Mobile Suit Carriers. and on more Research you can unlock a special Research and Development Factory which produces a carrier which carries special type of mobile Suits called gundam. Gundams are specialized Mobile Suits with Special Weaponry, armor and high speed mobility which allows them to evade enemy fire at a very high rate(lowest is 65% highest 95%).  and also levels up on battle to unlock abilities and skills 

Each carrier can carry 5 different gundams(single unit) and you can create 4carriers to carry 20 gundams all in all.

Electro Magnetic Cannons- Only targets Capital Ships, Cruisers and Frigates. Delivers a mass blow to a target ship with 4 EM shells. Battle Cruisers. Battleships, Orion Defender, Imperail Ships imply this Weapon

Mobile Cannon Technology- Allows High damaging cannons to be mobilized in the battle field. can be attached to an Imperial ship/Battleship for much faster speed on travelling

Imperial Ship Technology- Differs from a Capital ship. A ship of this class boast its high powered Weapons or Mass bomber/fighter technology and has a very Large amount of HP/Shield/Hull. Made solely for defense. at the very start Abh can have 2 of this ships randomly but they can only have 5 Imperial ships at a time. Can be Build only at the Capital Planet at Capital Ship Factory. Build Time: 1200 Sec. Very High Quality ships comes at a very high Price.

Flasath technology- allows all ships to travel directly 2-5 Phase lanes away from a planet(super lane jump)

Mobile Suits- A newly Developed weapon solely for the use of ZAFT Forces. Perfectly mechanized for space battle with high mobility which allows them to evade enemy fires which makes them a very valuable on ZAFT forces. with more research their evasion rate will increase and in addition they can have blocking abilities which also increases chances on more research depending the class of a Mobile Suit. There are 5 mass produced type of mobile suits and 2 semi mass produced Mobile Suits. Mobile suits has its operation time when not in gravity well range of its mother ship/cruiser 2;30mins for Mass produced and 5:00 mins for Semi mass produced

Gundams- because of ZAFTs Perfectionist Ideals they pursue more to develop Mobile Suits to win any battles and the Result are the Gundams. Highly Developed weapons for winning Every war that the ZAFT will encounter. With the Bleeding Edge technologies available they developled 4 type of gundams GN class, Yuannon Class, Nuclear Class and N2 class. They Pursue to develop this Technology to be perfect. Gundams imply various class of weaponry from beam sabers to Bleeding Edge guns to cope with various situations.

Trans Am- The Trans-AM is a system that temporarily removes the 'limiter' on all the true GN Drives connected to the four original GN Gundam suits. Twin Drive System- With the Invention of GN drives, ZAFT utilizes its full capabilities. Because GN drives dont have Operational time and Semi-perpetual energy source. They combined 2 GN drives squaring the power output of a GN drive. with perfect Syncronization the 2 drives will give more output performance outwitting other mobile suits. one thing is that Twin Drive System can't use Trans-Am becuase of the risk of Overloading. 00 Gundam is the only unit having this system

i dont have the pics yet but a lot of them came from anime so i'll post the pics you need but i dont know how to make it in 3d coz we havent studied it yet

*watches his motivation crumble to dust in front of such intricately precise models....compared to his pathetic skills!

*raises his sleeves and let's out a warcry! 'Once I get the Nephil's Civilisation Ship (HomeWorld ship since they cannot colonize) and main battle frigate online...I'll jump into one of the gundam designs...!!!

Be aware that the designs will not animate in game...they will fire and move like normal ships so wouldn't it be easier to put the gundams under wing zero form? (for those that can)...or at least try to find models that have a sort of flying feel to them! Not asking you to completely find new pictures and scrap all the ones you have..but just to..*voice trails off in unimaginable blabber!

Actually forget about changing the models! I'll try them out just the way they are ;)

dont expect me to help n mod coz i know nothing bout that but you can expect me to gather images and design ships in hand... i'll just scanlate it for you ^^ and i have alread 3d version of wing zero custom if you worry that  i wont put a sweat on looking for that legendary unit^^ one more thing... i dont like them as ships... i like them as fighters... i'll just put some ships to carry them...

You do that...*w8 anxiously at hopping the ships are of a basic design and not even harder than the pictures they witnessed before :)!!!!

hahah... i'll edit more for Zaft warships and additional Gundams... 1 more thing... the Super class should be Very large warships..... atleast 3 times larger than a capital ship

you dont have to copy it perfectly... you can change the modification if you want... the Super Carrier Came Frm macross frontier and could you share your 3d graphic software

Got a brand new gaming pc + internet/cable tv plugged directly into my pc which are then transfered to the entire house...so yes!

I never lag and my downloading speed is off the chart!

nice concept, if you guys had the models and textures i definatly wouldnt mind fooling around with them. coding after all, is the easiest part, and in my personal opinion, more fun than playing the game itself ;D anyhoo, if you need help and i got time i wouldnt mind helpin out if you ever do get this rolling. PM me if you need me :p

Well if you're willing, JaggedSparFel, Kiedjor and I are working on our own compilation of mods!

Kiedjor is specifically tinkering the vanilla races..adding more depth and strategy (if my memory serves me right)

and I add the Nephil race (see thread: Nephil: Tools of the Trade). Work is under way (1 model ready, 2 more in need of perfectioning and 4 other models in currently in the works) as well as trying to implement new and interesting abilities.

So if ever you don't mind helping..or wanna add you're expertise! Please don't hesitate to drop buy!
