Hate Speech - or Joke?

Hate Speech - or Joke?

Just recently, San Cho posted this Photoshop picture of Sarah Palin in a KKK uniform in the comment section of my blog.

-

I personally condemn the picture and I can't find any humor in it.  My question is simple. Does anyone else condemn this?

And who supports it? I have joked around with photoshop pictures before, but I have never put anyone in a Hitler or KKK uniform because that goes beyond being a joke and crosses over into the realms of full blown hate speech.

Amen, brother.

Let's have fun with contexts and vocabulary, shall we?

The anti-religious won't appreciate the prayer-reference [amen] and those who either are anti-communist/socialist and/or anti-unionist, and/or female probably won't appreciate 'brother', either....;)

....or is it a monastic term....implying one or other of you is in the priesthood? ....;)

I knew that since Starkers insulted me regarding the "lowest form of wit".

It was NOT an insult!  You looked at what I wrote, 'thought' I said something else and was then sarcastic in reply.  What I said was an opinion of what you said... it was not not an attack on you as a person.

Starkers may accuse Sarah Palin of whatever he wants

I have not accused Palin of anything that has not been made public knowledge by the media and/or the Senate inquiry into her abuses of power...  of anything that isn't already patently obvious to anyone with the power of unbiased observation... she is not blessed with coherent or intelligible communicative skills, which stongly suggests she does not possess the necessary mindskill to hold high office.

Do I like Sarah Palin? Certainly not... but not because she is a woman.  She reminds me too much of GWB... and I can't stand him, either.  Misogynistic, HARDLY!   I dislike, distrust many more men than I dislike, distrust women... but please, let's not go down the homophobic path... I have male friends that I admire and respect greatly.

But the fact remains that he is a hypocrite if he eats meat but condemns people who kill animals to eat them.

Please re-read what I actually said/intended and you will see this statement is not correct.  I am not opposed to, nor do I condemn the killing of animals for food/survival... just the weekend hunters with a preoccupation with guns and a bloodlust.

He insulted me, I insulted him.

No!   I voiced an opinion of something you said, without name calling.  You responded to my opinion with insults and name calling... there is a difference.

And in conclusion...

Try not to confuse life with semantics....

Perhaps then we can avoid future misunderstanings/working together against each other. :)

We actually agree on the hunting....

I am myself against hunting. I think it adds unecessary pain to an animal's death.

... but ended up working at cross purposes/agreeing to disagee with much the same view/opinion!  Could it be that came about because I called Palin a 'weekend hunter' - based on actual need and her own admissions during interviews - and you took umbrage to that because you're a Palin supporter?  Unfortunately, the truth/facts are inescapable... Palin has NO NEED to hunt moose, but hey, don't shoot me, I"m just one of the messengers.

Peace. :)

Stop it right here, buster! :-)

"Amen" is Hebrew and means "sure". I use Hebrew words a lot in my life. But I realise it has a religious sense these days. But then "amen, brother" is again an idiom derived from the religious sense and now means something quite secular again (although it can be desribed as a sarcastic version of the religious term to point out how obvious the agreement is).

Oh, and I absolutely am anti-communist.

....or is it a monastic term....implying one or other of you is in the priesthood? ....;)

I'm not. Incidentally, I believe monks are the "brothers", priests are "fathers". But traditionally "brother" just means that we are social equals.

Amen v'b'emeth, achim v'achiot. (Acknowleding both the surety and truth of your statements, as well as men and women; just to be on the safe side.) :)

We have been there. You and I have no need to slaughter animals (or have them slaughtered by others) either.

I objected to your comparison of Palin to hunters you saw on a documentary. Neither of us know the woman personally. I know she hunts, so I assume she actually eats the meat. That makes her as immoral as I am because I also eat animals that were killed (not) by me (but for me).

Peace.

I am fine with that. The remark of yours I understood as an insult was "revenged", if you will, and I guess we are done with that.

There are plenty of butchers around for me to purchase professionally and humanely butchered meats to satisfy my need for meat products

This is not always the case, nor has it always been the case. It is nice we can go to the store and purchase lamb chops without the trouble of killing and gutting the prey. But someone does. I doubt you would like the pictures of the slaughter houses and the abuses that go on there, yet you eagerly partake of their meat. Which makes you guilty of far worse atrocities than the mainstream hunters.

But dont let the blood on your hands prevent you from partaking of that meal. After all, you did not kill it.

Hmmm! For centuries various people have taken parts of select passages from the Bible to create an entirely different context to suit their own purposes.... seems what I have written here has suffered the same fate.  And such strong language too... me being guilty of worse atrocities than someone who, from a safe distance, picks up a gun and shoots a defenceless wild animal, and with no need whatsoever to do so.  It's one thing to have a topical opinion, but that' personal and is going too far.

Doc, if you re-read my post, you will see that I am quite aware of the fact that some people can not access a butcher shop and thus must depend on hunting/slaughtering their own animals for food: eg, those in isolated locations, etc.

As for the images of slaughthouses, my brother-in-law owns a sheep farm and slaughters his own sheep for local butchers, friends and family, etc... when a sheep was slaughtered for the missus and I, I was involved/assisted him in the process, so I have no illusions and know all about getting my hands bloody to put meat on the table when there IS a need.

I will not participate in this thread again.

Yeah, I'm with Doc Jo on this one... I'm out too.

Again, the animals being slaughtered for you by others are also defenceless and you too have no need whatsoever to eat meat.

Loosely translated this means, "He who insults another in public has no place in the world to come."

Does the Bible add that this only applies to some people but not others?

I hate to use Christianity as an argument against something Jewish, but you seem to be very willing to cast the first stone, despite the fact that you call "filth" an explanation of why using bad words can be considered wrong.

I'm still trying to get down the concept of 'humane butcher.' ;)

One that doesn't hurt animals more than needed.

They love them to death.

just the weekend hunters with a preoccupation with guns and a bloodlust.

Not bloodlust - what they call sport.  And as they do consume the meat (which means they do not deprive others of that satisfaction) they are just part of the food chain - like you.  Perhaps more honest in that they donot demand their food in tiny desicated pellets that have no inkling of their living origin.

'Bitch' in Palin's case is legitimate....afterall didn't she refer to herself as a bull-dog [or whatever]? ....

Only if you have lost all objectivity.  I guess if she was black, you would declare nigger to be legitimate too.

Dr Guy ....are you trying to be objectionable or just argumentative?

Last time I checked 'bitch' is not a taboo word no matter who/what it's applied to.  The same does not apply to 'nigger'.

If she were black I'd not be calling her 'nigger' just as I do not call her 'bitch' now, either.

I have a better handle on vocabulary and English expression.

If someone else calls her  'bitch' I'll let it wash....if someone calls someone a 'nigger' I'll remove their posting privileges here.

I call her a naive incompetent....and you can argue the validity/veracity as much as you wish...;)

In Dr. Guy's defense, Jafo, I took it that he was pointing out that the social acceptability of epithets is now defined by the objects of those epithets.  You may not consider the word 'taboo' but I doubt women object any less vigorously to the B word than blacks do to the N word.  The only truly acceptable use of the word bitch is to describe a female canine.

Might want to recheck that. ;)

At one time, I would wager the majority of Americans didn't see the N word as pejorative either. My money is also on the B word becoming less and less socially acceptable.

To me it illuminates the fear from the opposition to do and say anything to win.

Paranoid much? You ever thought that these kind of pictures might just come from someone who thinks she's an idiot and wants a laugh?

Or is everything on this planet a dichotomy now? "You are either with us or against us!"

I personally feel that the KKK is an embarassment to most of us proud americans, just a vicious group of very poorly educated people that use hate to fuel their mission, they have gotten away with some very vicious, despicable crimes against humanity, for the life of me i cannot figure out why they hate so much. I mentioned they were poorly educated for the most part, well they are extremely well educated in racism, now isnt that a nice thing to teach your children, they just make me sick, and i should stop before i go on  a rant

More than an embarrassment... it is a blight on all of humanity.  Now that is one thing (among others) I do agree the death penalty should exist for.... membership to the KKK.
