From CNN Associate Political Editor Rebecca Sinderbrand

(CNN) – Conservative New York Times columnist David Brooks, who has expressed doubts about Sarah Palin’s readiness to serve as vice president, said this week the Alaska governor “represents a fatal cancer to the Republican Party.”

Brooks praised Palin’s debate performance and called her a natural political talent, but told a New York audience Monday that “experience matters”: “Do I think she’s ready to be president or vice president? No, she’s not even close to that,” he said.

“…Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas,” he also said, in remarks first reported by the Huffington Post. “But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas, but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices."

Other prominent conservatives, including George Will and David Frum, have publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president. Prominent conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, an early supporter, said late last month that recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party.

Brooks himself has also written skeptically about Palin. "Sarah Palin has many virtues," he wrote in a recent column. "If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she'd be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness."

David Frum

You Know It's Bad For the Conservatives When David Frum Throws in the Towel....

Halfway through the debate last night, a link to a The Week article popped up in our box, where David Frum, that crazy Maddow-baiter (and the guy who confused Keith Olbermann with a comedy writer at 23/6) switches tactics midstream and starts bemoaning the fall of the old guard.

Which means, halfway through Grandpa's stories about Joe Plumber and abortion litmus tests, even the most steadfast soldiers of the Republican party start to question their ability to win the war:

Trouble is, by founding his campaign on a full supply-side message, McCain denied himself the opportunity to say anything new. Worse, because that message originally took shape as a (correct) response to the problems of the 1970’s, McCain’s attempt to dust it off and reuse it as a response to the very different problems of the 2010’s only made him look more out of date.

That’s not a failure of campaign tactics. It’s not even a failure of strategy. It’s a failure of the Republican Party and conservative movement to adapt to the times.

Very soon, this election will be over. Then Republicans and conservatives will confront a much harder question: How long will this adaptation take? It took Democrats 12 years to understand and accept their defeat in 1980. Surely we can be faster learners?

First David Brooks, then Christopher Buckley, Bill Kristol, and now smugosaurus Frum. Tomorrow, is it too much to hope for a public apology from Bill O'Reilly?

Yeah, I missed that... I was captivated by the blank 'is anybody home' look on George Dubbya's face.  Well not so much captivated by his vacant look, more bemused as to how come this twit became the President of the United States. :-"

Excuse me? Where did I abuse anyone?

From what you just wrote above, it would seem your definition of abuse are those who don't share your political views. Besides, I don't support McCain.

Well, my tolerance for obnoxiousness has reached its end.  Be thankful that I'm not as intolerant as some of you in this thread.

If there is one thing that is most definitely "ignorant" (or at least unwise) it is patronizing or antagonizing the guy who owns the place you're talking in.
