Wormhole to Wormhole cross star systems?

I've been having some difficulty adding the final piece to my map, I'd like to be able to connect wormholes to wormholes cross solar systems, so far ive not only tried every possible idea i could in the galaxy forge, but i even tried to modify the actual coded lines generated in the map to "ghetto rig it" and even that failed (though not from a successfull changing, i couldnt find what i was looking for in there)

Must've went through 25 different posts that came up as the search results for "wormhole" and "wormhole star system" and no juice. I'm pretty sure this is possible because I played a map that was inclusive with the game (Areolian or perhaps Ancient Gifts?) and it was cross star system.

Anyways if you can help me thanks in advance.

EDIT****

I found this link (shortly after posting, how it managed to evade my search filters I don't know.....

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/322017

It explains supposedly how its done, but again either coded by hand (Which I already failed to accomplish last time i tried, and no insight was provided to help with this route in that post)

The second option seemed far more valuable, So I tried that and while it looks like it would work when I drag same-system wormholes to different systems, it however will not let me add connections to the other planets to the dragged wormhole.

Hehehe. Don't I feel ridiculous. I just made an entirely new post on exactly this. Wow.

Anyway, I was trying the exact same thing. Wormhole placed in each starsystem. Then use interStarConnectionCount, etc.

Didn't work for me either. Once, I thought I had it working, and I opened it in GalaxyForge. It didn't show in there, so I went back to the code, and the lines I had added were gone! Go figure.

You can find the code I tried in my post, somewhere here in the Mods forum. It's brand new, I don't see it yet though.

If you figure anything out, let me know. Same if I have a breakthrough, I'll let you know.

Yes, being able to do this in GalaxyForge really is needed, but until then...

I found the easiest way is to use Graph Paper.  -click to see how I am setting up my map.  I've drawn up where my stars are (numerical assignment) and jotted down the wormholes (numerical assignment), then what wormholes are linked together.  (Map is mostly complete in GalaxyForge, final touch will be wormholes between stars)

Mark down where your stars are (numerically: Star0, Star1)
Write down each wormhole at each star by planet number (planet3, 8, 19, 32, etc... whatever they are)
Write a letter above each wormhole to wormhole connection (planet3 A, planet8 A, planet19 B, planet32 B )
Write somewhere off to the side the connections:

A 0:3 - 1:8
B 1:19 - 0:32

Now comes notepad.

(Borrowed From Voruk's Labyrinth source and editted)
interStarConnectionCount # (
however many letters you use -the above is 2 interstarconnections)
interStarConnection
 starIndexA 0
 planetIndexA 3
 starIndexB 1
 planetIndexB 8
 spawnProbability 1.000000
 type "Wormhole"
interStarConnection
 starIndexA 1
 planetIndexA 19
 starIndexB 0
 planetIndexB 32
 spawnProbability 1.000000
 type "Wormhole"

However many "Letters" you have equals the "interStarConnectionCount #".  If you have 30 wormhole to wormhole connections (not in same star), then the number would be 30.  These wormholes are bi-directional in nature.
Avoid loading the map into GalaxyForge if it's eaten up all your interstarconnections before -edit via notepad, load into SINS, surrender and view the map.  Good Luck.

Hope this helps, it's helping me as keeping so many connections stored in short term memory at once causes headaches -not to mention delusions of being Q.

*edit -damn smilies showed up with B and parenthesis so no more B), just B

Well, thanks for the help.

I just tried again, using the index values. I found that, when loaded in GalaxyForge, no connections were shown, but when played in SINS, if you Surrender I can click on both, and it shows a connection between them.

So, at least it semi-works. The connection is there, but now I can't get any ships to go through. I sent an Arcova to one, and directed it towards the middle. It sits towards the middle, doing nothing. I clicked the move button, and the cursor would "snap" to the inside of the wormhole, as if I could tell it to go through. Unfortunately, if I click it just sits there.

you need to now build 5 labs, get wormhole research and then fly through.

Or look very closely at "Ancient Gifts" -check the first planet and the very end of the file- then do similarly to your file (the home planets that is...)  This can be applied to a variety of maps and i'll be figuring out how to add it to my GSDef file for ez-mapping :)
Be sure to copy/paste from the .galaxy file itself to get the structure/tabs correct.

planet
  designName "Planet0"
  inGameName ""
  type "TerranHome"
  pos [ 1107 , 101 ]
  owner "NewPlayer0"
  isHomePlanet TRUE
  startingUpgradeLevelForPopulation 0
  startingUpgradeLevelForCivilianModules 0
  startingUpgradeLevelForTacticalModules 0
  startingUpgradeLevelForArtifacts 0
  planetItems
   templateName ""
   subTemplates 1
   template "StartingWormholeArtifact"
   groups 0
  spawnProbability 1.000000
  useDefaultTemplate TRUE

and at the end

templates 1
template
 templateName "StartingWormholeArtifact"
 subTemplates 0
 groups 1
 group
  condition
   type "Always"
   param ""
  owner "NoOwner"
  colonizeChance 0.000000
  items 1
  item "Artifact:WormholeTravel"

This should get me +5 karma.  Showing off the graph paper solution should earn me a

I really truly appreciate your help here. Good to know that it really is possible. ^.^

I went in and changed the .galaxy file, adding the lines you mentioned to both of the starting planets and the end of the file. I also tried it copying those lines out of the Ancient Gifts .galaxy file. Unfortunately, neither of them produce anything.

I also tried playing Ancient Gifts. Made an Arcova, sent it about, eventually found a wormhole. Tried to send it through, and it did exactly what it was doing with my map...

So, am I right in thinking that that snippet of code should place an Artifact on each planet it's attached to that will allow the player to automatically travel through wormholes? Because, if that's what it's supposed to do, it isn't.

And when I start a game (on either map) there is no announcement about artifacts, nor are there any artifacts in the Research --> Artifacts tab. And, yes, my planet exploration is already fully upgraded.

Am I missing a step here, or is there really something going wrong?

No.  StarClad just really messed up Ancient Gifts.

Trust me when I say chances are the artifact is there, but since for artifacts to activate you have to manually explore a planet, me NEVER finding any planet bonuses or artifacts on my homeworld in I don't know how many games, you have to manually edit the map and make the exploration for all the start positions 0.  If you don't, the artifact is never activated and you never gain the ability to wormhole travel, except by teching to Tier 5 and researching it yourself.  Which trust me when I say it takes a while with only 3 planets to call your own.  However, if you make your HW's exploration zero, then all you need to do is explore your HW and you can travel wormholes.

Well, thanks for the suggestion. I found the entry at the top about homeworld exploration, it was at 10 and I changed it to 0. I loaded the map up, and Exploration was at zero. Advanced it as far as it would go, and surprise, no artifacts were found! Apparently it's just not putting the artifacts in correctly, or something. As there any chance that both my map and Ancient Gifts both use the wrong "tag" for the Wormhole artifact?

Well, its likely.  After all, Ancient Gifts is one really screwed up map that has the potential to be magnificent.  Lets see.  I know SemazRalan was working on fixing it.  You are using RESEARCHSUBJECT_ARTIFACT_WORMHOLETRAVEL, and putting it on your home planet?

No, actually I wasn't. I was using what SemazRalan posted above, the template with the item "Artifact:WormholeTravel" bit...

How would I use the RESEARCHSUBJECT part you're talking about?

You'll have to forgive my apparent lack of understanding when dealing with SINS, I've never really modded it before. I usually work with other games. |-)

NVM.  I have no freaking idea what I'm doing to be honest.  I just copy and paste ship and ability stats when I mod.  Other people do the hard things.  Anyways, SamazRalan fixed Ancient Gifts.  He'll put it up for download soon, along with an updated and improved GalaxyScenarioDef that makes the one the devs made look like absolute crap.

He even sent the devs a spell-checked and error version of their own GalaxyScenarioDef.  I don't think they like him.....

SAMAZ'S ANCIENT GIFT

Go there and get the fixed map.  :borg:

It has a slightly tweaked VANILLA GalaxyScenarioDef file that has all the artifacts in it.  Read the "README.TXT" file for instructions.

For Galaxy Forge, copy the GSDef file into GalaxyForge -where the 10mb Ironclad.managed.dll is.
Open Galaxy Forge.  To add an artifact to a world, double-click the planet, click CURRENT PLANET.

Add new group at bottom.
Now with NEW GROUP under CURRENT PLANET, you will see "ALWAYS", a blank space, then PlanetOwner.

Now from the list on the far right, go to the bottom and find ARTIFACT Wormhole Travel or whatever, and add to group

uncheck Default.  Add HomeDefaultStart if it's a Home Planet or you start with nothing.

Enjoy.

Truly brilliant Semaz. Thanks! It worked perfectly, adding the artifact in through GF, then adding the wormhole connections in through Notepad. I'm surprised the dev team hasn't contacted you about a job, you'd be perfect for it.

I'm tempted to post the Vanilla Forge file I have, but people will download it like mad, put it in their gameinfo folder, then ask why they can no longer play anyone online and why their friends with vanilla can't play their uber-vanilla-pimped out maps...

So, no dice.  You can view the text files using the links below.

stardock vanilla galaxyscenariodef here
My edit, VanillaForge here
The only difference is the items are racially ordered, Vasari, Advent, TEC, Pirate, Bonus, Artifacts.  Also, I've included stuff like JumpBlockers, ShieldGenerators, Antimatter rechargers, PhaseGates, and NanoWeaponJammers and all the artifacts.

For modding, the GSDef file is easily editted once you know how to pull from the player entity file.

I'm hoping for a GSDef file for 1.1 that includes everything that a player can build.
