Created Character Exchange

Calling for your created characters.

Hello everyone,
I am completely new to this forum, but I really enjoy this game. So I thought I would look around on this forum for some custom characters that aren't in the game, and I was surprised that I couldn't find any. Therefore, I thought we should start a Character Exchange, where people could go and download custom created characters. For now, we could just use this forum post. Personally, I would love to see Joe Biden as a character, if anyone has made him. In the meantime, because I love American History and will be going into it, I made a few more historical characters for everyone. Here are John C. Calhoun and Henry Clay.

Calhoun was a senator from South Carolina who ran for President in the election of 1824. He was known especially for his support of states' rights and nullification. Thus, even though he was historically a Democrat, I believe his views more coorrespond with modern-day Southern Republicans, who support tax cuts, decreased federal government, and more state control. Thus, he is a Republican for the 2008 election who is for tax cuts, NAFTA (he was against protective tariffs in the 1800s), and against a strong federal government. He also opposes withdrawing from Iraq because historically he was a War Hawk, supporting the War of 1812 and also a probable supporter of the Mexican American War. Henry Clay was the "Great Compromiser" from the state of Kentucky. One of his most famous programs was the "American System" which promoted nation building in the United States, the building of roads, canals, schools, and railroads. He ran for President many times as a Whig, which primarily supported protective tariffs for US industry and economic development at home. Though Clay was a war hawk during the War of 1812, he opposed the Mexican American War. Because of his support for protective US tariffs and economic development, I made him a Western Democrat who supports More Jobs, opposes Out Sourcing, and opposes NAFTA. Though he is slightly for withdrawing from Iraq, he supports a strong military. Think of Henry Clay as a middle of the road senator who supports domestic progress and is wary of foriegn entanglements (like for instance the Mexican-American War). Here's my JOE BIDEN:

Joe Biden

He's the poorest US Senator, so I left his MONEY at 5.

He didn't raise much money in 2008, so I left his FUNDRAISING at 5.

I read news reports from Iowa of him visiting more towns in a day than other candidates so I gave him 8 for STAMINA.

CHARISMA 8. He's described as a good retail politician. Also, see his convention speech. Apparently he's a good wholesale politician as well.

CREDIBILITY 6. He's respected as a Senator and foreign policy expert, but nothing else special. People bringing up his (arguably inaccruate) allegations of plaigarism from 20 years ago as keep this lower.

EXPERIENCE 9. He has extensive experience in the Senate. He's run for pres. twice. And he could probably get good support from unions, if the political beheamoths of Clinton and Obama didn't run in '08.

INTELLIGENCE 8. Everyone concedes he's smart. He speaks on issues well. And he does well on TV and in debates.

MEDIA BIAS 2. The news outlets barely covered him when he ran for pres. in '08, and they gave him less time during the debates than Clinton and Obama.

MINORITY APPEAL 5. Nothing special. He's a Democrat. Also, the Delaware Indian American community likes him.

RELIGIOUS 7. He speaks about religion in a genuine-sounding manner. He's never had a drink in his life. He had pockets of support from Catholic areas during the Iowa contest.

I originally had him at 5, but I heard two folks on Boston talk radio refer to him a "goodlooking" several times, so I decided to bump him up to 7.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but where and how do you put the new candidate data? Other than doing it through the game.

Go into Notepad and paste the information data (the one with name and issue ratings and such). Save as FirstLast.CANDIDATEXML in My Documents\My Games\PolMachine2008\Candidate. Then paste the appearance data and save as FirstLast.candidatecfgxml My Documents\My Games\PolMachine2008\Candidate\Configs.

For those interested, here is a link to the 2004 game for candidates from 1928 to present, the late 19th century and the Jacksonian Era. They will of course need to be updated, but the basic info is there.

This is awesome, guys! Actually, seeing the trouble you have to go through to exchange candidates made us realize we need something easier...hopefully it'll be in for '1.5 final' next week, but we think you'll like it!

As for the RAR files, just follow the instructions in the readme.

Put the candidatecfgxml into the candidate/configs folder

The candidatexml simply goes into the candidate folder

and the png file goes into the GFX/candidate folder

You should also go to "My Documents" and then "My Games" and then "Political Machine 2008" to find these above folders, ie NOT the Political Machine 2008 folder in your Program Files.

If you grab the v1.5 update off Impulse, you'll find a new type of file made every time you make a candidate in...

...my documents/my games/polmachine2008/candidates/packages

These files, with the CANDIDATE extention, are a 1 file distribution method for sending around candidates. 'But Scott, what if I don't want to email these files to everyone that want's my creation?'

Taadaa!! Using our WinCustomize web site (normally used for desktop enhancements) we've added a Candidate's repository for all the great creations that you guys come up with!

Then, when you download a candidate, you just double click on the file and the game will automaticially extract it to the appropriate files.
