Community Game #1

Dear GC2 players, I present you the first community game where anyone who's interested can give strategic, gameplay-related, or any other kind of advice on a (ToA) game while it is played. I haven't found anything like this yet, so I'm claiming to be the first ;)

For a short description on how this works, please read this thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/320886

Now let's get this thing started. This will be our galaxy setup:

Opponent settings:

And finally the setup of our race in this game, the Terrans:

As you can see, I have not yet picked any abilites, since this is the first decision we need to make. From what I've learned, Luck and Creativity are good choices, but what else? Economics, Morale and Pop growth sound good, since money is very important and most of it comes from population (and taxes).

Also, we don't know yet what kind of victory we'll pursue (I guess we'll see what's reasonable during the course of the game), so these abilites should make for good flexibility.

But, these are just my thoughts (and I'm just an amateur), so now it's time for YOU to start discussing what abilites we're going to use.

I will wait a day or two before I start the game and post the first turn, depending on how many people contribute and post their ideas/advice/comments.

Note: I'm doing this kind of game for the first time and it may very well happen that I forget something or do something wrong, so please bear with me and feel free to say anything you think might be important.

For a quick reference on what this is all going to look like, visit this page: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=284751

Disclaimer: As you can see on that page, none of this is my idea. All credit goes to the people on the civfanatics forums, who started these kinds of games quite a while ago using Civilization 4. I just wanted to do the same for GC2, as those games turned out to be very helpful to new players and generally fun and interesting for most people.

Now with all said and done, please start posting your suggestions about our race's abilities and what our overall strategy for the beginning of the game should be. Are we going to build many colony ships on this small map? What are the first techs to research, and in what order? What do we build on our home planet? Although these decisions will only become relevant once the game is started, I think we should already start planning ahead a bit, as that might have an influence on our race's abilities.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

And now....

Commence collective conquest!

OK I'll bite. Abilities: I hear creativity in ToE is strong so go with that and luck. Maximum Economics, a bit of Pop growth and the rest into research. Go with the Federalist Party for more economics or the Technologists maybe.

First tech could be planetary improvements for the bonuses.

I always like to max-out economy as much as possible, so I would say put maximum points in economy, morale, and lastly population growth with whatever you have left. Federalist for political party. The high morale will let you up the taxes even more. The first thing I would research would be the first two propulsion techs so you can design faster colony ships, and grab more planets quickly. Then go for the techs that give you bonuses to various things, like planetary improvements, galactic warfare, etc. I like getting xone medecine relatively early for a pop growth boost too.

What you get for bonus tiles on your homeworld would influence what you build first, so I would wait and see. :)

this is kinda cool. Its like having your friends over to play the same game and use multiple stratiges in one game and see how it turns out. What i whould do is max eco. and moral first then use remaning points in military production and social production. split them even if you can i cant remember if the total out come of points is the same or not. Also wait to put planetary buildings till you tell us what they are. i dont know what to do for the first tec. I always like to look at my situation before i choose what tec if you are far from the other players i whould choose logistics so you chould get at those life support tecs fast. or if your really close then millitary tecs or diplomatic translators. But i just noticed you turned on blind exploration so i might go for sensore tecs which means starting down the xeno research tree

Thanks for your input!

To get things going I've picked our abilities and started the game.

The abilities I chose are as follows:

4pts Economics
3pts Morale
1pt Creativity
1pt Luck
1pt Pop growth

And the federalists.

So this is our start:

And this is our homeworld:

Sooo what do we do now? ;)

Btw, if you need more info on something, just tell me and I'll post the relevant screenshots ;)

A rather uninspiring planet, but we'll work with it. ;)

Rush-buy a factory to get things moving, and queue up a few more factories and/or labs. Upgrade your miner to a colony ship. Reaserch xeno research, or engine techs, if you already have the former. Set your homeworld to build a colony ship.

Dont forget to put your main slider to 100% capacity, and up the taxes to a level where you morale is over 75%, which helps population growth. Once you colonize a few planets, drop taxes to a level where morale goes to 100% so you will get double population growth on all of them. This will help jump-start your economy for the future.

Agreed, except after the first factory build an economic building then another factory.

In DA I always buy my first colony ship but I don't know how well that goes with the more difficult economy ion TA. Perhaps let it build for a couple of turns and then buy.

AS for the sliders, many would disagree with me but set them at 33% each for now.

Also, move the existing colony ship into orbit of the homeworld, then launch it at full capacity. It only has ~100 units on it right now. Next turn when you get the colony ship via the upgraded miner, do the same.

I'd build the first factory on the farm tile. I just hate those tiles on homeworlds, so I place a factory over that fertile plain. Gets those green peace people all riled up.

Interesting. What about buying an entertainment network so we can set the tax slider a little higher?
You can do that later, maybe even just build it. Factory first sounds good. Also the influence tile isn't so bad if it works with the Innovation Complex. That's another thing for later though, especially since the position of the homeworld is pretty bad for culture stuff.

 :D

Another vote here towards rush-buying a factory and upgrading the miner to a colony ship. Though from now on I would limit the rush-buying to first build 1-2 turns, then rush-buy instead of buying right away.
In terms of research I'd suggest some research tech (depending on what you already have) first since you didn't pick any research bonus points.

Also works with stock exchanges' 5% influence bonus. I'd say build an economic building on it.

What is the innovation complex? Is it just another influence boosting structure?

A real nice one that is Terran tree only. 50% influence and a tidbit of research if memory serves me...

I agree with rush building the first factory and seting down then relaunching the colony ship for the full amount of pop. I also like the idea of changing the minner to a collony ship. It means you can take in thouse better world quiker than the enemy.
Plus i dont think you should ever build anouther minner just let one of the A.I. build it and take it with influnce because i know that in DA the minning stations get taken by influnce prety eaisly and prety fast.

(this has nothing to do with this game but im curious what does the Karma stuf do does it do somthing or does it just indicate how helpfull or cool someone is. dont hate me for putting this here I have bad expirences with pepole geting all riled up over nothing)

According to Galactopedia it also adds 1 speed to ships built on that planet. It doesn't say so in the game though and I haven't tested it so far. As Navigation Center speed bonuses aren't shown either it probably does give the speed bonus though.

It just indicates if someone thought your post was helpful enough that they gave you Karma for it. That or you want to be silly...

Horridly typoed "Loup De Noir". I was shooting from the hip when trying to come up with a handle for AIM and misspelled what I really wanted. Kept with it ever since.

In AD&D's campaign setting of Ravenloft, it is a werewolf that changes by the afflicted placing a specially prepared wolf skin on their back.

In French I believe the translation would be close to 'black wolf'.

You've obviously been inspired by the great wisdom of the Fanged God...welcome Khanblayk! I think Loupdinour will like the idea too, but only when the moon is full. ;)
