512 MB RAM requirement

512 MB RAM requirement

The program is preventing the installer from running since I do not have the 512 MB physical memory -- I have 504 MB, which falls just short, since I have an integrated graphics card (which is fully compatible with PM2008, i checked) which uses 8 MB of memory. Is there any way I can bypass this, 508 MB does not seem like much less than 512, and I really want to play the game...

As for not reading the customers concerns, besides posting the link to get Impulse (which does let you install) there's not much that can be done/said about CD's that have already been printed. At best, it's something that will have to be fixed in the next run.

I simply meant reply #23 above. The rest of you have done the best you can it seems, it's just that his solution is irrelevent given the full context of the discussion. So one of you misread and hopefully he won't do it again. (and everyone does make the occasional mistake anyway)

Unfortunately, it's also not something that a patch can fix. Patches need a file to update, and if there's no file to update, you can't update them. Post-release support is generally limited to patching, so this is a tricky issue. But it can be easily solved by downloading the Impulse version, buying an inexpensiver RAM upgrade, or--SHOCKER!--checking to make sure that you meet the minimum requirements for a game BEFORE you buy it.

Also, I have another fix idea: could you disable the integrated video card (uninstalling the drivers if necessary) before you install the game in order to push your RAM total to 512 MB? Of course, you'll have to reactivate the card before you play, but this could be a workaround.

The Impulse install is after the regular game install, so no impulse either.

Yeah, the point of my link to download impulse is that you don't need the retail disc at all. Just download Impulse from the site that I directly linked you to, and it'll let you install the game.

I apologize if my intention was not clear enough, but the whole topic of this thread is that some people cannot download from the retail disc because it checks how much RAM they have. My response to download Impulse on your own and use IT to download the game is neither a mistake nor irrelevent, it's a perfectly working solution to the topic at hand.

We're trying to be helpful, if you need more direction then ask..

Thanks,
~Charles

does shader 4 work

I am using an NVidia 8600 GT which supports shader 4.0 and have no problems running the game.

The game does not use any shader 4 shaders, but most cards that support shader 4 will also support shader 3 which the game can use.  The minimum required is shader 2.0.

That's the problem, technically we do have that much RAM, just not according to the computer.

As stated before, several of us have done so, and have a different graphics card installed. I doesn't change anything.

That being said, at least I have it installed now, although I haven't played it, and it seems to be quite a memory hog as as been said, dissapointing for a Stardock game, but that won't stop me.
