I found an interesting thing.

I got the LogonStudio Vista from Impulse, no luck getting it to run on Vista Ultimate 32bit.

I the tried to install the version from download.com. And it works flawless!

When I start Impulse now it asks me to upgrade from version 1.00.002 to 1.00.003, which I obviously won't do. There are apparently some changes made between the versions that stops them from running on my machine at least.

I finally figured out how to get it to work, and as I suspected (based on previous experience with Impulse itself not running properly under a non-admin account), it appears to be a permissions issue. I set the Properties of the Impulse shortcut to run as Administrator, though Impulse gives you a big warning about running it as Admin. The reason for the warning is probably because once Impulse runs as Admin, any other process that it starts also has Admin rights. So if you use Impulse as your Stardock application launcher, all those applications run as Admin.

Sure enough, I was able to launch the current alpha of LogonStudio Vista with success under those admin rights.

As an aside, I tried to run Impulse as Administrator when I was running it under the limited User account, but it wouldn't work right until I upgraded my User account to one with Admin rights. This pretty much destroys the benefits of UAC and the higher security of Vista. UAC was specifically designed to encourage developers to write their code to ask for elevation when needed, but also to run well without admin rights. I hope that Stardock will work on getting Impulse working as it should under Vista.

I had the same problem. I was using Impulse. I downloaded it from SDC and now it works fine.

That's strange.  I downloaded it from download.com and I've tried running it as an administrator, but it still refuses to work.  Maybe they've released a new version that prevents it from being functional at all.

ATTENTION :

THIS IS A LONG AWAITED SOLUTION TO THIS NUISANCE.

DELETE THE "skin" FOLDER LOCATED IN :

C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\LogonStudio

VOILA! LOGON STUDIO WORKS FINE AFTER THAT.

LSV has stop working for me also. I run Ultimate 64 bit and had to restore to a previous  point and then use the old screen. When I went to update to the new screen ( BAM ) won't load. Went to download and tried that version when I went to change the screen told there's a new version and I had to load it to change. Think the last update has a bug or two in it.

Thank You! Deleting the "skin" folder fixed the problem for me!

Of course now theres no icons for the "load", "download", "create", "upload", and "about" but nevertheless the program works beautifully!

right-click on the installer, click properties, click the Show settings for all users, uncheck the 'Run this program... compatiblity mode for:' box, check the box 'run this program as an administrator'.  Click OK twice and then double-click on the installer.
