IconPackager v4.0 Release Support Thread

IconPackager v4.0 Release Support Thread

Please use this thread for IconPackager v4.0 Support Issues

All,

With IconPackager v4.0 being released tomorrow, I am creating this thread to house support for the newly released product.

At this time there are no known issues for either 32-bit or 64-bit.

For all of those who have reported and tested issues on 64-bit we thank you for your time and support.

Regards,

Zargon

I've run into another problem in x64 now. I went to uninstall IP to fix an Icon problem I had been having (music icons wouldnt go back to default when the theme was applied, fixed by resetting WMP to the default media program). When I uninstalled IP through Impulse and rebooted 90% of my icons where blank. I luckily resolved the issue by loading up SDC and doing a full reinstall, opening IP then immediately closing it, followed by uninstalling it through SDC. This seems to be a bug with Impulse's uninstall process.

Impulse: Click the "?" help button in the top right corner
-Click Open XMLs Folders (Public)
-Click anywhere in the window that opens up then press Crtl+a to select everything
-Press delete to delete all the files in that folder
-Close the folder
-Close Impulse and then restart it again.

Stardock Central:
-Go to Tools->Settings
-Click the Internet section
-Click the "Refresh XML Data" button
Run this program: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/clear_cache_sdc.bat

OK, now I'm having the activate problem as well, tried all above.

If you activate IconPackager, IconExplorer then asks, activate that and try and open IconPackager you're back to the activate pop up again.

ODU subscription expires 2009, I've also added this to my earlier ticket.
How long before you get locked out for trying to activate.

How long before you get locked out for trying to activate.

Can this happen??
Then this problem is serious in more ways than making the software totally unusable..

I've just tried the procedure regarding SDC and IP 4 refered by Zubaz (quoted from Panic Button), still no dice (as expected), so I had to restore image yet again..
It gets rather tiresome.

I've got lots of anger and frustration to display over this, but I'm keeping it to myself.. Use your imagination.

Reverted to 3.99.149 again.

/offtopic
Btw, why do I always get an error when accessing this forum (for each and every page)through SDC saying:
Line 1137,Char 1,'_gat' is undefined,Code 0

It's annoying.. and has been for months.
WXP SP3 IE7 fully updated.

Oh yes, indeedy it can. It's happened to me 3 or 4 times in the past year with Deskscapes. Not the paid-for premium deskscapes; they're fine. When I end up reinstalling Deskscapes because it's broken on me, one of the 3 (never the same one) will nag me to activate then tell me I've exceeded the number of activations.  :d

If you do run into the error 6 activation error please simply contact support. A rep can then look at your account, verifiy that the serial number is not shared or compromised and reset you. It's pretty easy and we are happy to do it for you. Please let us know at [email protected].

If you have any further issues or questions please let me know.

This is at least good news :)
I've just sent a request due to my problems activating IP4 as mentioned
earlier in this thread.

Did an update via Impulse today and voila, it wants my registration info upon starting (OD Ultimate Owner here). Can You please get glitches like this right for the future ?

Uninstalled, reinstalled, now I am stuck with those ugly default icons as IP still won't work without activation...

Has there been any fix yet for the activation problem with Icon Packager/Icon Explorer ?

I have tried activating by running each program as a Administrator got them working but on close and reopen it wants to activate again for some reason it isn't creating the sig.bin file. I get the error message
"Stardock Product Activation could not write the activation signature"

OK, so now I want to be a squeaky data point.

Please, *Please*, PLEASE fix this activation issue. I can't change icons for file types in Windows Explorer or any other file manager because of this.

At least a workaround exists: go into the full IP GUI and make the changes there. However, that is inconvenient for this situation: coming across a new or a used-to-be-rare-on-my-system-but-now-I-use-it-a-lot file type whose icon needs changing.

What happens when you go into the Icon Packager directory, right click on Icon Explorer > Run as Admin. Then do the activation normally through that box?

Edit addon: If that doesn't do the trick can you run through a manual activation process then send me the long activation string so I can try it from this end manually? You can just PM them to me here.

If you haven't already seen this here are the online instructions:

I'm not sure who you're talking to now, but my xp account has admin privileges (oldstyle), so it naturally won't make any difference (I've also checked the privileges for the assorted folders, just to make sure).

After trying the normal activation (which normally should be automatic in SDC btw) many times I'm sceptical to IP4 in general (it can't be any good when even the activation won't work),
so I think I'll wait until the issue itself is corrected before retrying.

The "backup drive, test IP4 activation, restore drive" procedure is rather timeconsuming,
but the only reliable way to test after I got burned (i.e activation not working etc) the
first time around (I already have 3.99 installed, and I wont have IP4 wreck havoc on it before IP4 works).

I use WXP Pro SP3 + IE7.

Does IP4 resolve the missing UI issue with msconfig.exe?

msconfig shows for me with IP4 installed

If you were addressing my post, I'm the admin and the only user on my XP box, so the Vista elevated privileges thing won't work.

And my "activation" issue is like this: I can't apply icons to individual files or folders because IP can't find "\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\Icon Packager\Activate.exe"

Obviously Activate.exe is in the IP program folder, not in the folder where I keep my IP themes.

Try setting Repair Shell Icons to "All Procesess". Then try to run msconfig again. I'll bet you don't get a UI. This issue also affects mspaint, Fax Viewer, the History viewer for Norton Internet Security 2008, and several other programs.

The issue is cured by only allowing the repair of shell icons for specific processes. (Obviously, don't add msconfig to that list) :D

Same here. I've got a ticket into Support .. still waiting on a response. I'll post the results here when available.

Thanks, JeffBDVS. What process do you need to 'include' to replace the icons in MSOffice Open/Save dialogs? That's really the only place where I want the shell icons replaced aside from explorer.exe.

Just out of curiosity. Has anyone tried to copy Activate.exe from the IP-Program folder to the place where the activation process expect it to be? (to "\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\Icon Packager\").

Or does Acticate.exe not exist at all on your systems? :)

I'm having the same "can't find activate.exe" error when trying to change an individual icon through the Icon tab in file properties. XP Pro SP2, 4.00.163 (x86). Side note, it would be really nice if we could actually copy that text from the About section instead of manually typing it out.

I used the brute force method: I added the .exe files for Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word to the list.

PS - Ironically, IP itself (and a few other Stardock apps) must be added to the list for their Open/Save dialog icons to be skinned!

Is it really here the suppot thread for IP 4 ?  :p

Though, for the third time here:

There was no answer for #30, though i re ask:

1°) How to change language efficiently ?

2°) How to save as a new package after recoloring one, and in the path defined in options (for me: E:\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconPackager\Themes WINXP )

XP Home Edition SP3 + IE6 (french)

I tried that ... it still said it couldn't find it
