ObjectDock Weather Docklet not working anymore

ObjectDock Weather Docklet not working anymore

Hi all.

I had OD running for over one and a half years now and the weather docklet always worked. Since Thursday or Friday it only displays "Weather Information not Available". Is there somenthing wrong with weather.com?

Does anyone know where this stardockweather.ocx is found on Windows7?

C/ProgramFiles(x86)/Stardock/ObjectDock

Thanks Wiz! Hopefully Doc will see this...he can't find any of these files on his pc.

stardockweather.ocx should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Stardock (if not on 64 bit, lose the (x86) )

Thanks Shirley,I didn't realize it was in two locations. I've had good results replacing the one in the OD folder,I never tried replacing the one in Common Files.

Btw,Win7 seems to work properly and  has never needed the .ocx replaced where  on Vista  it has to be replaced from time to time to connect properly.(or at the very least,OD has to be closed then reopened.)

Thanks weatherbound.  Same thing happened to me today.  Your fix you posted worked for me to - kudos.

PRO TIP: It actually doesn't matter where you put it as long as the file is registered from that location

My weather dock (the one included with object down when installed) is updating now BUT, the weather is wrong.  It shows the incorrect days and forecast.  It has the correct zip code in the configuration.  It will also bring up the correct weather page if I right click and tell it to go to the weather homepage.  I just removed it because it's totally useless.  It's easier to just go look it up so you know the information is correct.

It shows the incorrect days and forecast.

That is the problem the fix in this thread was posted for originally. Give it a try,it should work for you as well.

Try following this link in Internet Explorer (Firefox and other browsers do no handle the file type correctly):

32 bit: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/install_weather.bat
64 bit: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/install_weather_64.bat

save the file and run it from your machine (right click and run as administrator for Vista) and follow it's instructions.

I just got this software and ran into this problem. Glad i'm not the only one. BUT now after messing around a bit i believe i have solved the problem.

ALL I DID WAS INSTALL THE LATEST DIRECT X FROM DOWNLOADS.COM. THIS PRETTY MUCH SOLVED THE PROBLEM.  Now ,the docklet shows today's , tomorrow  and future weather.

Before, i downloaded direct x it said something like "retrieving info" for a few mins and then "cannot find info".

hope this helps solve you all's problem with weather dock.

I would chalk that up to a fluke.  DirectX wouldn't really have anything to do with the weather docklet.

Don't know if anyone still has issues with this but here goes.

Downloading that weather file and putting it in the folder seemed to do the trick for me. Unfortunately it seems to come back every now and then. I suggest, if any of you are having the same problem to create a batch file to fix the quickly.(Just make a new .txt file and change it's extension to .bat instead.)

If you use my code you will need to put the new stardockweather.ocx in a folder called bak, it's directory should be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets\Weather\bak

Also, if you have a 32 bit machine just replace any part that says (x86) with nothing. So instead of Program Files (x86)\stardock do Program Files\stardock

Here if anyone is interested:

echo off
cls
taskkill /IM ObjectDock.exe /F
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets\Weather"
del stardockweather.ocx /q
copy "bak\stardockweather.ocx" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets\Weather\stardockweather.ocx"
start ..\..\ObjectDock.exe
Echo And it should work perfectly now!
Echo Enjoy!
pause

Hey people I hope this works for everyone having issues with the weather docket If you are running a firewall like zonealarm you will have to put www.accuweather.com in zone portion of the firewall...

Open zonealarm...

Go to the firewall tab...

Go to zones tab...

Click on the add button...

Put the zone for internet...

Host name is www.accuweather.com ...

Discription... Stardock weather...

Click on the lookup button and it will provide you with the IP address for accuweather....

Click ok then reboot..

Hopefully that will resolve the problem

It has worked for me and a few others that are having this problem

Yes, any time a web service is not working for you, checking firewall settings is always a good troubleshooting step.

Well... anyone have a remedy that works?

I am using Vista 64 bit and this thing was working fine for the first two days that I had it installed. Then after no changes, the icon shows the correct local information using zip code, but when i hover over it, the popouts are not even close... shows rain all 5 days and temps of 46/34. I know that i live near Portland Oregon but that is not even CLOSE!!

I have done each and every suggestion here but have had no luck yet. I like the dock but can't stand it when stuff don't work...

If I go to the weather page... AccuWeather.com opens... shows Rainier Oregon correctly... (use zip code as city, state does not work in the dock) and correct forcast. Go figure!

Any more Ideas?

I'm using Windowss 7 and have OD Plus, and the weather docklet gives the same temp and forecast day after day. Thought I'd give OD Plus another try since I lost my registration for Winstep xtreme. Not to be untoward (I do have my opinions and preferences), but WorkShelf smokes OD Plus in many ways. I've allowed OD through my firewall and tried the various fixes here with no success (which I shouldn't have to do for software I paid for). Looks like I'll just have to break down and purchase another key from Winstep and dump OD...

Why feel bad about supporting the developer of an app you enjoy using so much?

Incidentally, you can get a Free Nexus and it has a weather docklet.

Err, send me an email to Winstep support then! No need to buy another license key, I'll just re-send your old key. :sun:

Never said I felt bad about it. Disappointed, yes. Legit software should work correctly and shouldn't be regarded in the same light as a beta, where one expects gliches and correspondance with the developer. Nuff said.

This fix still works for anyone who's had to reinstall such as myself with a new pc build.

I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. My weather docklet stopped working recently. It had been working for ages so I knew that I had the right versions of everything including stardockweather.ocx. I right clicked on the ocx file and viewed the properties - it had been blocked by windows for some reason and there was an unblock button at the bottom of the properties box. I clicked that and it started working again. Try that first.
