oooooooo Dread Lords so scary

I figure the new Terror Stars kinda make the Dread Lord an insignificant event.  Just blow up their star, wipe out their planet and order the crew a round of drinks.

LOL That is most definitely one way of dealing with them i guess.

One does wonder how you will get the Terror Star into their system without their notice. Those things are crazy slow.

Besides, to have a terror star you basically need to be near their level technologically, at which point the more productive option is just to crush them and bombard them with transports to take their juicy, high quality world.

You're kidding me right?

I've fought Dread Lords since DL first release, and I know that they are actually push overs if you know how to deal with them. They tend to show up with numbers too few to be a long term threat... unless they are left alone long enough to gain numbers. If you attack them with a good mix of weapons, logistics, and some defenses, you can realibly destroy their ships. Assuming you can replace your ships faster than they can, the Dread Lords should run out of ships to defend their planets.

Once they have no more ships, you easily conquor their planet. With good soldiering, you should need nothing more than a single default transport, otherwise 2 or 3 transports should be enough.

Next order of buisness. Name the new asteroid field after the bartender. He did all the hard work.

don't forget a simple option...

train as many spies as they have spots on their planet and cover them. it prevents them from being able to build anything for a long time. they also won't build spies themselves to remove you.

I thought they were considered a minor race and you couldn't use spies on them.

Why all the hassle of invading a planet?

I say spore them, spore them all! ;)

Dread lords are a mega event not a minor race, ever seen minor races invading your systems and destroying your ships in 1 shot :)

Dread lords are easy to kill once you get spies on their planet and get some Mass Drivers and lots of shields on your ships and put them in fleets that are big with expert logistics.

The one and only time the Dread Lords ever showed up in my game I was playing as the Krynn and immediately placed several spies on their planet. It did the job as far as slowing their production and they only built two ships before I took the planet. BUT even though I got a high level of intel on them there was no report, which really disappointed me.

They should be more difficult in Twilight, with at least one defender to help them survive the first wave until they biuld more ships :P So no more pushovers. You'll have to put in a (small :P) effort!

I remember while playing Dark Avatar one time I tried to spy on them and it said we shouldn't waste our spies on minor races. Maybe it was a bug but I know I'm not mistaken on this one, that is what the message said.

IIRC, you can spy on them in the campaign, but not in sandbox.

Then that is where I am making my mistake. Thanks.

First time they appeared in one of my games I was already on Disrupters and high level defense. The other ai's were being a pushover so I left the DL alone... Very fun game there (gigantic map). Unfortunately for them one of my default choices for any race is 30% soldiering and I'm nuts about getting it as high as possible. An 8/2 advantage with only 20m invaders really doesn't do jack...
