Not For Jews Only Part III

History Overview

Continuing on with an overview of Israel's history starting with President Harry Truman after WWII.

Many years before Harry Truman would become President he owned a clothing store in Missouri.  It just so happened his partner was Jewish.  His name was  Edward Jacobson.  Providence?  I think so.  Just this fact alone made a pivital impact on the Jewish State of Israel today.

It was post WWII and the UN was about to vote on whether to grant Palestine a Jewish State with a line drawn down the middle for both Jews and Arabs.  It was called a Partition Plan.  The problem was you had some of each living on the wrong side of the proposed partition.

The Jews accepted the Partition Plan but the Arabs were pressured by the surrounding Arab nations not to accept this.  It really wasn't theirs to say.  It was the British who owned and controled this territory after defeating the Turks in 1917.

President Truman was going to vote against the plan in the upcoming vote.  Well he was until Edward Jacobson came knocking on the White House doors.

Many of the Jewish leaders put pressure on Jacobson, knowing he had Truman connections in Missouri. They pressured him to lobby the President for his vote.  So he went to the Big House in March of 1948 and had a chat with the President.  Jacobson asked the President to give his people a chance.   He was persusive.

The next day Truman called the State Department and made some other calls and informed those that needed to be in the know that the plans would be changed.  The United States would be supporting the Partition Plan.

Of course he met with opposition including Secretary of State George Marshall among others.  But the plan carried and the two states formed.  The British were given time to pull out their troops trying to give uneasy support of peace between the Arabs and Jews.

On May 14, 1948 the first Prime Minister of Israel, Ben Gurion declared Israel a State.  Eleven minutes later the United States recognized this as well.

The next day six Arab nations lined up against Israel in direct defiance of the UN resolution and attacked Israel.

Nobody thought they would survive.  Israel was going to be stillborn.....or so they thought.

There were only about 600,000 Jews at this time in their homeland and millions of ARABS in direct opposition to them.  They had no army, no government, no taxes, no weapons, no money.  How could they survive?

They did have some weapons but they were pretty obsolete

There was a young female Zionist who would later become Israel's forth Prime Minister and would be instrumental in helping Israel get organized.  Her name was Golda Meir.  She was born in Kiev, educated in the the United States, became a Zionist and moved to Israel.  She was one of the signatories on the Israeli Declaration of Independance  just the day before.

Anyhow she got on a plane headed for New York to raise money.  In a few weeks she managed to raise $50 million dollars!  Tell me God doesn't have a plan for Israel!

Somewhere along the line, early on, a cease fire was called.  This was just enough time for Israel to get weapon ready and organized to be able to fight off these six Arab nations. Supernatural pause?  Perhaps!

Many supernatural things happened in and around Israel during these days of unrest.  A true story....there were two tanks pushing through barbed wire and two teens hiding in some shrubs nearby with homemade bombs.  They threw one of these cocktails at the first tank which then caught fire.  The teens scrambled up on the tank threw down another bomb into the hole where the men were trying to exit and blew up the whole tank.  The entire force behind these two tanks withdrew.

Another happening.  The Jews had no navy, no AF and no way to reach ships on the sea bombing Tel Aviv.  Somehow they threw a homemade bomb at one of the ships, catching fire, and the entire force withdrew as well.

A ceasefire was called in 1949.  It was an amazing war.  Nobody would have been able to predict the outcome of this.

This was just the beginning.  Time and time again Israel would be bombed, dragged into warfare and yet they never gave up.  In fact the victories they were able to win were absolutely unbelievable.  There had to be help from another outside supernatural source because to say otherwise would be harder to believe.

Next the 1967 war that was virtually over in three hours.

I hope you meant millions of Arabs in direct opposition?

You know there is something I never understood.  The Arab nations surrounding Israel, who often champion Palestine, and are so concerned about them having a homeland...these same Arabs can't give up a tiny piece of their hundreds of thousands of acres to give them one?

If it wasn't Palestine, they'd support anyone, anything, so long as that thing wants to take from the Jews.

The Jews kicked ass for that land, they shouldn't have to give up one square inch.  They have taken all comers and still the world expects them to give up land won by blood.

Can you imagine if the world tried to force us to give Texas back to Mexico, or even part of it?

I believe, to the victor goes the spoils.  Since these nations have come against Israel and LOST they should be giving up some spoils of war not making demands.

But oh no, they have OIL.  All the sudden we say its not so cut and dried...maybe the victor gets the spoils when we don't need stuff from their enemy.

I cringe every time someone from our White House (any time period) goes over there, because it is always to ask the Jews to make concessions...

Screw that.  I don't care how they got there again.  The point is, they can hold it.  That makes it theirs and its unAmerican to ask them to give anything back.

Good stuff T.

I hope you meant millions of Arabs in direct opposition?

whoops!  Typo.  Yes, I'll change that.  Good eye!  I wote it up quickly....didn't proof read!

I cringe every time someone from our White House (any time period) goes over there, because it is always to ask the Jews to make concessions...

I know, I never really understood that at all.  We are supposed to be on their side but sometimes I wonder why we do this.  There is someone out there who has calculated every single time we ask Israel to make a concession something happens to us...like some natural disasters or such.  I saw a list once of all the dates and happenings.  Have you ever heard of this?

Can you imagine if the world tried to force us to give Texas back to Mexico, or even part of it?

ya, right...like that's ever gonna happen.......:d

...these same Arabs can't give up a tiny piece of their hundreds of thousands of acres to give them one?

they want it all.......all...... I tell ya!  All.  You know as well as I that there is much more than meets the eye here.   There are sinister roots to all this.

hey.....we might not agree on the military stuff  all the time..... but we sure see eyeball to eyeball here sistah!

I'm a little confused how somebody throwing a bomb at a tank and it blowing up is supernatural.

hahahaha.

Yeah, I know not every American feels this way, but I really have a heart for the Jews. I believe God has a lot in store for them. I am excited and feel bad for them all at the same time.

ya know what you mean.  Although my BS teacher last week said he felt that Israel right up to Armageddon might actually be a safe spot to be ....until things really start to heat up there.

I'm a little confused how somebody throwing a bomb at a tank and it blowing up is supernatural.

Think David and Goliath!;)

The kids were Jewish...the tanks their enemy...when the kids blew up both tanks, the enemy believed Israel had serious anti-tank weapons and withdrew.

Two kids turned back an entire group of tanks.

That doesn't make it supernatural, just a mistake by the tank commanders. The same sort of thing happened in the winter war and numerous times in both world wars both on land and in the sea.

Nope. Those things are coincidences.

The real problem caused by those actions are that abandoning the Jews will lead to disaster.

As pastor Niemoeller said, first they came for the Jews... and when they came for me, there was nobody left to speak up.

That's the very real disaster that comes as punishment for abandoning the Jews.

Think of what happened to Europe in the 1940s. Humanity create their own punishment.

and that could be....I haven't checked into it that carefully but have heard vaguely about this from a couple of diff sources.

Thank you, KFC, for an excellent article!

Thanks......there's more coming.  A really good story about the capture of the Golon Heights during the 1967 war with a nice juicy spy story that helped things along.

Well, that's it then. The US of A is supernatural. We give the jews a lot of money and a lot of technology.

Well, that's it then. The US of A is supernatural. We give the jews a lot of money and a lot of technology.

Oh boy... She was talking about 1948. The US were not an ally of Israel then. The US also didn't give any money "to the Jews" and no technology either.

It was the other way around, actually. The Jews gave money and technology to the US in World War 2. From Wikipedia:

"Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany in January 1933. His anti-Semitic ideology caused all Jewish civil servants, including many physicists, to be fired from their posts. Consequently many European physicists who later made key discoveries went into exile in the United Kingdom and the United States. After Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939 and World War II began, many scientists in the United States and the United Kingdom became anxious about what Germany might do with nuclear technology. Albert Einstein in particular wrote several letters to Franklin Roosevelt urging him to establish the nuclear capability before the Germans. These letters are considered to be influential in the acceleration of the project."

I don't know what you intended to say here, but you have got your history wrong.

You are looking for a mundane explanation (even if the explanation is an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory) because you cannot deal with something that was, no matter how you look at it, a miracle.

"In Israel, in order to be a realist you must believe in miracles."

-- David Ben Gurion

I think you totally underestimate the Jews and Israel. It's normal. Many Americans and Europeans believe that everything in the world ultimately comes from America or Europe and that any other peoples or cultures that have demonstrated greatness must have had "American help" or something like that. It's not true.

The US became an ally of Israel after the 1967 war. But during Israel's hardest times, before its founding and during the extermination wars against her, the US were perhaps a friend but not an ally.

So be well, friend, there is no need to thank the Jews for the the victory in WW2. But you could have done something against the Shoah in Europe a bit quicker and perhaps helped Israel avoid a similar tragedy in the middle east. Beware the beginnings! Whenever a leader screams "Death to the Jews" and nobody stops him, war will follow. They don't stop at Jews.

What Israel needs is help against those who want to destroy her, not a fantastic story of how a huge Arab army was fought of with American help during a time when America had no intentions of helping the Jews.

I agree...but until the strangle hold called "oil" is released from around our necks....don't expect too much from the US besides "peace" keeping and mediation.

I really hate saying that, and I vote to try and change it. But in the end, the enemies of the Jews have us by the ....well, ya know.

I agree...but until the strangle hold called "oil" is released from around our necks....don't expect too much from the US besides "peace" keeping and mediation.

The threat that the US _will_ interfere if anything big happens is good enough, for the moment. If Hillary or McCain win the elections, we won't have a problem. With Obama we might.

(And by "we" I mean the western world. Remember the pastor Niemoeller.)

I really hate saying that, and I vote to try and change it. But in the end, the enemies of the Jews have us by the ....well, ya know.

The Arabs need western money more than the west needs "their" oil. We can (and do) buy from Russia and the US, Canada, Norway, and Britain have reserves too.

One thing that can be done (and that the US do) is protect South America. It's a good source of oil as well.

Ironically, the countries most vocal about Israel tend not to have any oil anyway. Saudi Arabia is really quiet when it comes to Israel, they don't want to get involved. Syria is dirt poor. And the Gulf states have economic connections with Israel and rely on Israel as a defence against Iran (and they have said so).

As much as I like a simple picture, it's NOT the Arabs who are the enemies of the Jews. Even the Arab nationalists are now trying to survive with Israel's help. It's the "Muslim" fundamentalists and their western (left-wing) allies. Anti-Semitism is no longer a right-wing thing. It's the left who want to make the world a better place, and killing all the Jews is always the first step for some reason.

I'll be an anti-semite if you'll be anti-american. We'll call it even.

In fact the victories they were able to win were absolutely unbelievable.

Oh boy... She was talking about 1948.

Notice the plural form of victory used in that sentence.

And if you mean the 1948 war in which a ragtag bunch of outnumbered, disgruntled Arabs made a disunited and feeble attempt to immediately retake Israel, then I think you are out of your mind. The Jews won that war for the same reason the North won the civil war: more troops and better armed. All the jews from around the world went to Israel to defend it.

Seriously, nothing is a miracle. They don't exist. And I am getting the feeling that this is all coming from the "jews are god's chosen people" argument. Why do people believe something so absurd? If the jews won, they had some sort of advantage, probably technological or logistical. It is the only explanation.

Since 1973, Israel has cost the United States about $1.6 trillion. If divided by today's population, that is more than $5,700 per person.

“Since the October War in 1973, Washington has provided Israel with a level of support dwarfing the amounts provided to any other state. It has been the largest annual recipient of direct U.S. economic and military assistance since 1976 and the largest total recipient since World War ll. Total direct U.S. aid to Israel amounts to well over $140 billion in 2003 dollars. Israel receives about $3 billion in direct foreign assistance each year, which is roughly one-fifth of America's entire foreign aid budget. In per capita terms, the United States gives each Israeli a direct subsidy worth about $500 per year. This largesse is especially striking when one realizes that Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to South Korea or Spain.”

Yeah, taking their stuff, then killing them.

Kinda gives ya a complex doesn't it?

I mean WHY are Jews reviled so much around the world? As a nation and culture they've not done anything to merit world hatred.

I'll be an anti-semite if you'll be anti-american. We'll call it even.

Anti-American? I referred to an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that you brought up.

Oh, please. The Arabs had no reason to "take back" Israel and they were not a ragtag bunch of disgruntled people. (The statement alone is racist.) They were also not "disunited". King Abdullah of Jordan led them.

All the Jews around the world went to Israel to defend it? 4 years after the Holocaust? What are "all the Jews in the world"? In your conspiracy theory Jews are probably rich and powerful but the reality is that Jews worldwide didn't have those resources, especially not a few years after WW2.

The Jews had neither more troops nor better weapons.

And do have a look at the leaders of the conflict. And I don't mean King Abdullah.

Anyway, I find it interesting how a genocidal war started to exterminate the Jews of Israel becomes "a ragtag bunch of outnumbered, disgruntled Arabs made a disunited and feeble attempt to immediately retake Israel".

Fantastic. Arabs outnumbered by Jews. That'll be the day!

And I am getting the feeling that this is all coming from the "jews are god's chosen people" argument. Why do people believe something so absurd? If the jews won, they had some sort of advantage, probably technological or logistical. It is the only explanation.

Why do people believe it?

I can tell you why.

There are entire countries that want to exterminate the Jews. Historically, several countries have managed to murder nearly half of the Jewish population at a given time, yet the Jews and Jewish culture and religion survived.

In Europe Jews walking on the streets are still being attacked when they look like Jews. Yet they have faith and stay true to their heritage and religion.

When dozens of Arab countries with a population of several hundred million attack a country of a few million Jews, the Jewish country survives, despite having no American support (in 1967) and despite the attackers having all the Soviet equipment they could want. And Israel still survives.

A Jewish rabbi, Jesus his name, convinced half the world that the Jewish G-d is the true G-d and shaped the culture of the western world.

An Ishmaeli named Muhammed, believed in the Jewish religion and convinced another third of the world of the one true G-d and shaped the culture of the eastern world.

And Jerusalem, the Jewish holy city, is the centre of so many wars because everyone wants a part of it. It's the holy city of Judaism (and was it first), of Christianity (BECAUSE of Judaism), and a holy city of Islam (BECAUSE of Judaism).

People believe it because coincidence does not explain why the same people preserve the same culture all over the world for thousands of years while under the constant threat of being exterminated. Coincidence does not explain why in Dublin, with so many mosques, it is the Reform synagogue that is found with swastikas painted on it one morning. Coincidence does not explain why 1 million Jews from Arab countries fled to Israel and were welcomed and cared for (although not as well as they deserved). And coincidence does not explain why religious, traditional, and completely secular Jews still feel a common bond.

It's not absurd; their faith is the best weapon the Jews have.

And yes, there is an "only" explanation. It is logistical. A people united by a common tradition and law and a strong belief in education and loyalty to one's friends WILL succeed against evil.

If you don't believe in G-d and a "chosen people", that's fine. But don't call it absurd when you have never had the experiences that could explain the belief to you.

When I was a student in Haifa and Hizbullah shot rockets into my university to, as the Hizbullah leader Nasrallah explained, kill all the Jews that came from all the countries in the world, I understood that there was something special about the Jewish people. NO OTHER PEOPLE is consistently being targeted by murderers. None.

G-d's chosen people, I believe. It's chosen for what I do not know...

And when I go to the synagogue tonight I know I will walk home without my kippa on my head, because I am afraid. I am afraid because Jews are chosen for SOMETHING and that they are can become apparent to anyone who looks like a Jew in the wrong neighbourhood.

Israel receives about $3 billion in direct foreign assistance each year, which is roughly one-fifth of America's entire foreign aid budget. In per capita terms, the United States gives each Israeli a direct subsidy worth about $500 per year.

I am sorry that preventing another Holocaust costs you so much.

But I grew up in Germany and have seen what statements like

"Rise as one man and fight for your sacred rights. Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history, and religion. This saves your honor. God is with you."

can do to people. (Quote is from 1944, said, on radio, by the first leader of the "Palestinian cause", a man still much admired in the Arab world.)

I appreciate the support of Christians, even those that I disagree with strongly about all sorts of subjects. I always think that life comes first, and science/evolution/creation etc. comes second.

As a German, I appreciate that there are (now) so many who will not make the same mistake the Germans have made and the Arabs are still making.

And as a believer in G-d, I appreciate that obvious miracles are not seen as "absurd" (and maybe they cheated by using American weapons before America was an ally) by everyone.

It is not our moral obligation to prevent the genocide of the Jewish people. Jews here have a lot of money and power, and they want to make sure their people are safe.

"Anyhow she got on a plane headed for New York to raise money. In a few weeks she managed to raise $50 million dollars! Tell me God doesn't have a plan for Israel! "

I appreciate the support of Christians,

You make the assumption that all Americans are Christian.

"
On the eve of the war the number of Arab troops likely to be committed to the war was about 23,000 (10,000 Egyptians, 4,500 Transjordanians, 3,000 Iraqis, 3,000 Syrians, 2,000 ALA volunteers, 1,000 Lebanese and some Saudi Arabians), in addition to the irregular Palestinians already present. The Yishuv had 35,000 troops of the Haganah, 3,000 of Stern and Irgun and a few thousand armed settlers.[74]

On 12 May David Ben-Gurion was told by his chief military advisers, 'who over-estimated the size of the Arab armies and the numbers and efficiency of the troops who would be committed', that Israel's chances of winning a war against the Arab states was only about even.[75]
"

I took this straight out of wikipedia. Maybe you should challenge it. Although, I did make a mistake. I did not realize that Israeli history extended so far into the past. The Jews fought hard for their survival, and much of that fighting transpired without allied support.

Any Christian worth their salt will always be on the side of the Jewish People and Nation.  It's the land and people that God loves and he will bring them thru right up to the end.  No other people group from way back in the beginnings of Israel still survive outside of the Jews.

I understood that there was something special about the Jewish people. NO OTHER PEOPLE is consistently being targeted by murderers. None. G-d's chosen people, I believe. It's chosen for what I do not know...

There is no question this group is still alive because of God's plan for them.  There has been no other group of people on this earth more persecuted than the Jews.  None.  They are the biggest testimony to the truth of the scriptures.  It's all laid out what will happen in scripture even still to come for the Jewish Nation.  It's not over yet.  They will be victorious but not until they go thru a very terrible time still yet to come....called the time of Jacob's Trouble.

I did not realize that Israeli history extended so far into the past. The Jews fought hard for their survival, and much of that fighting transpired without allied support.

Well, it seems I have overlooked one source of Jewish support.

Anyway, my point is just that IT IS NOT A MIRACLE. Any miracle has an explanation. I gave you the explanation for the victory in 1948: more troops and American monetary support (I took the second from the OP.).

More troops?  There were about 600 thousand Jews total and millions of Arabs from six Arab nations surrounding Israel the day after their State Declaration.  So how do you figure?  Golda Mier went to the US to collect what she could and rushed back to put weapons in the hands of her people.   Get youself a map of the Middle East.  Look at Israel and then look at the surrouding Arab countries and tell me how in the world Israel was able to fend off these Arabs.

The Jews had wandered for over 2000 years  with no country to call their own, persecuted in every single country across the globe during that time.  After the Holocaust these 600K Jews made their way to Palestine and they had NO money, NO weapons, NO government, NO army, NO AF, NO taxes etc. They were a brand new country for ONE day.  They had NOTHING!  But yet they were victorious.  How does that just happen?

Yep. There were millions of Arabs in the surrounding countries, which is why I called the attacking force a group of disgrunted and disunited ragtag soldiers. The Arabs did not mobilize all that they had, or they would have won within the first few weeks.

cute! No, within a few short weeks with money from the US they were able to obtain weapons and whatnot and win the war. Up until then they held off the Arabs the best they could with what little they had. They were a country for only ONE day. There was no way they should have been victorious...but you do bring up a good point....the Arabs have never been that organized and that's been their downfall then and still.

It's been said that Arafat never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

This reminds me of scripture where we're told that God is NOT a God of Chaos....so by testing the spirits you can see the hand of God NOT on the Arabs but on the Jewish Nation.
