Hyperdesk

Hyperdesk

by The Skins Factory

http://www.hyperdesk.com/

So with Hyperdesk just around the corner, is this finally some competition for WindowBlinds?  How well will TSF and Stardock play together?  I know TSF used to contribute here, but they don't show up much anymore, at least with content.  I'm anxiously awaiting the release and can't wait to see DarkMatter.  Hurry up Jeff. ;)

What are your thoughts?

*UPDATE:  Hyperdesk is live.  Go check it out and leave your constructive  comments about it here.  (Notice I didn't say "only leave your good comments or bash it".  Constructive comments can be positive or negative but should be supported with facts.)

But thats the free skin which looks rather bland and rushed.
Have ya seen the paid ones? I want em!! :(
Id definitely install HD so i could get my filthy hands on those skins. BUUUUUT.... not vista compatible... BASTIDS!! :SNIFF!:
Good to hear it works well with WB installed too.

I paid for one of the Dark Matter themes and it's really quite good! The window style is nice, with several variations for the theme that I purchased. The icons are beautiful, as is the widget that controls WMP (or itunes if you prefer). The site is set up nicely, really quite nice. The support forums are also set up nicely. No complaints from this consumer. :CONGRAT:

How many icons does it include? Please tell me its more than the bare minimum as a lot of tsf sets only have a limited number of icons which always bugs me. :(

Here is my attempted screenshot. Please note that I think it's much better looking on the monitor then in the screenshot. There are many skinned items that just won't show in one or two screenshots.

Click on the link (I couldn't get it to display here for some reason)

Not sure how many icons. It skinned all of the ones that I need....

No offense, but for a pay theme...  :NOTSURE:

Asty.. the Disney one has a whole 26 if thats any indication  :p

I thought it was worth the $9.95. I guess that's what matters in the end. ;)

Sigh, I really hope this isn't going to be a normal thing. The icons they produce have always been amazing but little in numbers. (:(

well its a lot easier to make better looking icons when your only making 20 or so a pack.. you gain 60/70 % more time to devote to the one you do..do.

Anyway...also no toolbar icons either or file animations, transparency, perpixel frames \ shutdown screens.. etc...

When you cut out most of the more difficult and time consuming elements in skinning you would think that whats left to skin would be amazing.

Actually looking at the screenshots they do have shutdown dialogs.

There are logoff and shutdown dialogue boxes that are skinned. The work on all elements may not fit your criteria for amazing, but the suite that I'm using is really good. Again, there are multiple variations of the windows style included so I may not be giving justice by posting the one screenshot. I'm not inclined, however, to spend much time posting more. Customizing is a hobby for me. Not going to get too stressed about any of it.

They don't have perpixel shutdown screens. Just bitmapped rectangles... no transparency, no shaping....same for please wait.

To me those things really aren't necessities, to each his own I guess.

Judging by the name of the thread this had lead me to believe it actually is a Hyperdesk thread, interesting. :SURPRISED:

I think it's been said too many times about what exactly the limitations are when compared with WB, it could even be said that its far passed the point of beating that dead horse and has moved on to bigger and more gruesome things.

Thats your opinion. If it's alright with you I'll beat the horse a while longer, your free to run along.   ;)

vStyler - it is all about opinions, isn't it?

By the way - I was using your Vienna 3 - Rapture blind prior to trying out the Hyperdesk stuff. In my opinion, that was one of the best windowblinds ever made. I would have paid for that one.....It will likely remain one of the best in my small collection.

Yes it is.. and honestly I wouldn't be making as big a deal if in my opinion it wasn't warranted.

Thanks for the kind words too  :)

i think their website is deceptive. they never give real looking screenshots just dressed up ones.

if stardock put out a $15 suite that only had 26 icons, people would be ripping them a new one. if a stardock suite lacked per pixel skinning they'd get blasted.

I have used several different skinning programs and I think Style XP beats Hyperdesk as far as the interior is concerned. Just face it, nothing is windowblinds but windowblinds. We are spoiled.
I must say that the rest of it is fair. I bought the Dark Matter Trilogy Pack. Haven't loaded it yet. Had a few problems with the site taking my card. Eventually had to order by phone.

Meh, it's decent, but uninspiring. I've seen much more creative WBs out there - for free!

What a bunch of haters  . Vstyler being the leader of the hyperdesk bashers :D
They have their weak points, sure. But overall i think its pretty good.
Only thing i dont understand is why they dont skin the toolbar? It just looks so out of place, specially on the above screenshot. Such a shame. (:(
