Sins of a Solar Empire v1.04 planned for this week

We're getting close

While we're not making any promises, we plan to have Sins of a Solar Empire v1.04 ready this week.  v1.04 is the first serious attempt to user-requested game balancing.

We've gotten a lot of feedback in the past few weeks with some great ideas on tweaks to each of the different sides to make the game more enjoyable to players.  Obviously a lot of time has had to be spent play testing (and yes, we get paid to do this, so there, mom!) these changes to make sure the result truly is a more satisfactory experience.

Often times, what seems balanced (or unbalanced) on paper does not work out quite that way on-line. There are a lot of factors that just have to be played to be seen.  Moreover, a player's skill level along with strategy can completely alter one's perspective on balancing which has been both a challenge and quite enjoyable to observe.

Both Stardock and Ironclad play multiplayer games pretty regularly (we don't usually advertise who we are) and it's really quite refreshing seeing new strategies being developed over time that we never would have considered.  This is one of the reasons why updates such as v1.04 will continue to be needed -- as players come up with new, innovative strategies, we will have to continue to update the game to ensure that no single strategy becomes too dominant -- this is what you pay us for, after all.

If all goes well, we hope to arrange a game night with the entire community.

How about a checkbox for those who want a clock? Those who don't want the clock can leave it disabled. Everyone wins!

I thought I covered that when I said 'optional clock', but okay However you want to do it, I'm trying to run a household as well as an interstellar empire, and while the empire is more fun, my whole family gets screwed when I burn dinner. I appreciate that these are fairly mundane reasons, but I got 'em.

well I read the changelog and I KNOW it isn't the final changelog, but I'm concerned that I didn't see anything about the ability to have options when it comes to resources/resource asteroidsI surely hope we are given the ability to set the resource levels like we were in 1.02 and previous...

I also want to see this option make a comeback...since 1.03 I feel like every game I play has an excess of credits and not enough metal and crystal since they nerfed the number of asteroids. A slider or option somewhere would be wonderful for this.

In any case, I'm looking forward to 1.04!

I am so eager for 1.04.. of course as soon as it comes out, I'll be dieing in anticipation of 1.1
Is 1.04 still being split as 1.04a and 1.04b? or is this delay going to get us the whole 1.04?

Great update! Glad to see that teams will not unlock themselves when loading custom setting games. AI allies are slippery little buggers as is. ;)

Also, not having as much gang up on the leading player in easy and normal FFA modes will please a lot of people I think.

I have read several of the instructions--ridiculous. Every other game for the last 10 years have figured out multi-player connections---why can't this team?

ugh, is there a way I would be able to download this without having to install it on my laptop? My dad forgot to pay the ethernet bill and earthlink said it'd be probably around a week before we got our service reactivated. (accessing this through my friend's wifi btw)

-edit-
nvm, found the online page
