Sins of a Solar Empire v1.04 planned for this week

We're getting close

While we're not making any promises, we plan to have Sins of a Solar Empire v1.04 ready this week.  v1.04 is the first serious attempt to user-requested game balancing.

We've gotten a lot of feedback in the past few weeks with some great ideas on tweaks to each of the different sides to make the game more enjoyable to players.  Obviously a lot of time has had to be spent play testing (and yes, we get paid to do this, so there, mom!) these changes to make sure the result truly is a more satisfactory experience.

Often times, what seems balanced (or unbalanced) on paper does not work out quite that way on-line. There are a lot of factors that just have to be played to be seen.  Moreover, a player's skill level along with strategy can completely alter one's perspective on balancing which has been both a challenge and quite enjoyable to observe.

Both Stardock and Ironclad play multiplayer games pretty regularly (we don't usually advertise who we are) and it's really quite refreshing seeing new strategies being developed over time that we never would have considered.  This is one of the reasons why updates such as v1.04 will continue to be needed -- as players come up with new, innovative strategies, we will have to continue to update the game to ensure that no single strategy becomes too dominant -- this is what you pay us for, after all.

If all goes well, we hope to arrange a game night with the entire community.

I'm really impressed at the continued support of Sins. Usually you have to pay a monthly fee (e.g. WoW) for that level of service!

p.s. didn't the developers take a post-release holiday?!?

Just started playing, and I love the game. Thanks for making it even better.

Maybe a while after release, but not right away. I know two of the devs ran a 72+ hour day when the game came out... I practically screamed at them (via an intermediary on MSN) to take some time off when I found out about that stupidity... Still, its a definite sign of how seriously they take this game!

That wasn't a one time only thing either :P Seeing Blair or Craig post on the forums at 3-4 am in the morning wasn't unusual in beta or a bit post-release ;)

Yeah, those guys sometimes got a bit (ok, not just a bit, quite a lot) crazy with their work hours.

Thankfully they survived till this day. ;)

Cool! I don't suppose we can get our (my) impatience satiated and get a partial or full changelist a few days early? :d

That does it!!! I wanna come to work for you guys!!!! I just wish I had some programing skills!

That's a refreshing stance to take Devs. We're all really pumped about 1.04. Your ongoing development and support is greatly appreciated by the players. I also like the idea that you are actually playing online in the environment that we are. I think a lot of devs these days spend too much time testing internally.

I would love to see a preview change log :) You know to get the mind working on new strategies and what not.

(BTW, people should consider the work hours the devs do put in -- there is a reason why I and a large number of other forum regulars take so... poorly... to any disparagement of IC! Not only have they created an awesome game, and have fantastic "business" practices, but that kind of dedication earns -- DEMANDS! -- a certain degree of return dedication)

The last post by Brad on the 1.04 changes can be accessed here.

Yeah, but we want an updated set of patch notes!

I'm sure Brad, Craig, and Blair are aware of that. :)

Dedication? Hell that went out with respect, honor, good will, real warrenties and $5 hookers!

$5 hookers!

If you had put that first, nobody would finish reading..

Great work guys! And I'm in for the game night. Sounds like a blast.

This is why I buy your products (well this and the fact that they ROCK!). Your dedication to your players is second to none! Thanks!

WOW you guys really blew me away with that. Usually when I play games (especially online ones) any kind of advice is totally ignored (star wars galaxies with its senator system ha) Thank you so much.

well I read the changelog and I KNOW it isn't the final changelog, but I'm concerned that I didn't see anything about the ability to have options when it comes to resources/resource asteroids

I surely hope we are given the ability to set the resource levels like we were in 1.02 and previous...

HO her is something I found Sins was lacking. Anty chat-spam system and block system to block them. we had a scorch7 guys in lobby todays spamming NOOB constantly.

I hope to god all the people asking for a clock are ignored!!!!!!

The whole point of a game like this is to lose yourself in it and not think about time, responsibility and all the things that come with it.....

For the people who want a clock, put one on your desk or wear a watch but don't impose "reality" on those who enjoy this game as an escape!
How about a checkbox for those who want a clock? Those who don't want the clock can leave it disabled. Everyone wins!

I just want the functionality back to completely remove the pirate base from the random maps.

If they made everything everyone wanted as an option an option, they'd still be stuck in beta 1.
