Ok guys, here you go, a thread devoted entirely to the release of my own ship models and the discussion of SoA2, specifically topics which have been pseudo-banned (i.e.Borg). Feel free to download my ship(s) and test them, then post criticisms and suggestions (constructive please) so I can improve my models and make them better. This thread in no way is designed to detract from SoA2, it's just another place we can talk.

Yea. All you should have to do is replace "Tech" in the "Tech:Frigate:Light" section with whatever you rename your race. That should work, but who knows. Crazy things happen in Sins.

Ah, well, it's been a while. First off, Jono and Cobbs, I have been getting your messages, I just wanted to experiment with each of your ideas before I gave you feedback, and that's proving to take longer than expected... but don't worry, I won't leave loyal companions hanging, just maybe left in suspense for a while :P . Now, to the real news! Done(almost) texturing the sabre, and I have to admit I'm pretty satisfied. Tell me what you think...


I got bored, and decided to make my own task force...


I have to admit I was pretty giddy watching them smack up some stock militia ships...


I'll release the sabre once I have the texturing done. That consists of adding more windows to the engineering hull, and numbering the escape hatches on the bottom side :D .
Hopefully I'll get that to you guys soon,

Outstanding. The new sabre looks great. I tried your mod out, and so far, I am blown away. I am a die hard Star Trek fan, and you a truely doing it justice. This is great mod, and can't wait to get more! Keep up all the good work.

Alrighty, I attempted to replace the tech:frigate:light lines in the Galaxy file and nothing happened. I tried editing both the Mod->GameInfo->Galaxy file and the Main/GameInfo/Galaxy file. Neither one gave the results I was looking for. Then again, I tried turning them all into Pirates.

Well, i had some free time today, so I decided to tackle another one of the few things that has been bothering me about sins. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that a starship would just explode and be vaporized into tiny bits and pieces, and this is especially not consistent with what we see in trek shows and movies (except on rare occasions), so I decided to mod the debris to have class specific models for each unit, and to be more persistent, so even some time after a battle, I might come back across a graveyard of ships that I lost a while ago. I only have the Oberth and Miranda done, but let me know what you think anyway!





Hope you all like, and I will most likely be releasing these when I release the Sabre. If any of you are looking for something to do, I could really use some help changing the explosions so they are not so puny, and look more cinematic and Trek-like. I've done a little messing around with this, but it still confuses me a little, and I cant get anything to work quite properly. IOW, I have no idea what I'm doing :P !

Looks awesome, really adds to the feel that there was a battle when theres a dead ship floating about. I was thinking how about if you could be able to drag those dead ships perhaps cap ships only to a shipyard so you could have them repaired overtime.I think it could add to the trek feel but of course this is only a suggestion :)

Looks fantastic! I'd suggest trashing them a little more thoroughly, though - blow off a warp engine or something - so that they're not easily mistaken for functional ships in combat. Also, do they always do this, or do they sometimes vaporize?

Absolutely fantastic! That was bothering me too, that every ship just explodes and there is nothing left. A huge spaceship should take a while to go down, not just blow up in a huge explosion.

Also, if you want nicer explosions, try merging in Bailknight's mod, Lost_Wld's mod, or my own.

Otherwise, if you want to, post your request in my "official" forum, and perhaps I can get one of my team members on this for you.

Yeah I was going to suggest they be trashed a little more, like having a nacelle broken off, and have more black scars on other portions of the entact hull.

However, despite my suggestions, this is really cool. I really appreciate you doing all this. The only way I play the game now is with your mods and I won't build any of the normal TEC ships haha.

This is some amazing stuff man! I dont know jack about explosions either, but I'll poke around. Dont take this the wrong way, but if you can do this, I would LOVE to see what you could do with the Sovie! (but I am totally bias) ;)

I must agree with the above. The ships should, IMO, have varying degrees of "death", some might get entirely vaporized with fragments floating around, some will have multiple sections blown/cut apart, and then some will look like what you have posted. Should be random as to which debris is created in the explosion. I know the game already supports this, most of the entity files have an entry for multiple debris models, as I am sure you know. And of course it is more work, but it would be really cool to enter a ship graveyard; I want to recreate the aftermath of The Best of Both Worlds, at Wolf 359, where the dead ships will hanging in space. It was one of the cool aspects of the Total War franchise where all of the corpses would stay after a battle. EPIC!!

p.s., on an unrelated note, has anyone ever noticed that the Defiant pulse phasers have never been properly modeled in any official Trek game? They are always off in some sense. Here is our chance for a real Defiant, with machine gun style pulse phasers tearing up Jem'ha'dar attack ships!

Okie Dokie, officially got the Excelsior debris done, and have packaged all the latest updates in this convenient little package. I don't have the sabre debris ready, and I still want to tweak the phasers on the sabre, AND I realize I made a mistake putting in the buttons for each of the ships, but oh well, there you have it. Here are a couple of pics of the Excelsior all junkified.




Oh, and I also find it kinda funny that as I'm writing this, two of you have already downloaded the file. you guys are quick... :LOL:

Love your work and hope to get some of my own out some day soon.

I think you have startrek handled so if we can get me up to speed I can do some BSG models for folks or maybe Romulans or Borg since you have the Feds cornered!
