Ok guys, here you go, a thread devoted entirely to the release of my own ship models and the discussion of SoA2, specifically topics which have been pseudo-banned (i.e.Borg). Feel free to download my ship(s) and test them, then post criticisms and suggestions (constructive please) so I can improve my models and make them better. This thread in no way is designed to detract from SoA2, it's just another place we can talk.

So far I have learned its the "New added" weapons is what brings my game to a stop. So, if anyone knows codeing and can over look my specs there and offer a sulotion to what is offset, it would be most thankful.

Has anyone tried these sounds & stuff yet? If so, did you like them?

Also, I just replaced in-game sounds, didnt try to add any. Mabey thats why its not working for you guys.

I would suggest going forward with your plans, yes Major Stress & his team are doing some great work, but it will likely be some time before anyone is playing with them. I see no problem with having two versions of one ship, but hey thats me... :p 

Anyway, your doing a FANTASTIC job & I cant wait for your next masterpiece!

There is nothing wrong with having two trek mods. As long as this one is not passed off as SoA2. I see you use alot of Rick Knox's work (SFC, BC, Legacy). Thats cool, but we prefer to build our own ship models.

Perhaps we can even share modding info.

I'm not totally sure but is there anyone else having coding problems far as adding new weapons to ships? like giving a frigate the Miranda 2 weapons, phasers and photons. I cannot seem to code a ship to have weapons other than defaults.

Well... I wouldn't consider this a mod entirely. It is by definition, but this is more of a "we wanna mess around with ST ships until SOA2 comes out". I am most definitely not trying to make a full conversion mod... In fact I would prefer that there not be two mods. maybe my ships could supplement the ones that you guys make, or maybe (hint, hint) I could help you guys texture the stuff you already have?

Nope, all of my meshes (all 2 and a half of them) are completely from scratch.... I get the blueprints from the Star Trek LCARS Database
WWW Link, Rotoscope the blueprints to the three planes in XSI, and build it up from there. It's kinda cool that my first stuff ever would be confused with Rick Knox's work... I'll take that as an indicator that my models don't suck nearly as bad as I personally thought (which is a definite morale booster ;) ).

I can't imagine I have any information that you yourself have not already mastered, but I'll answer any questions you might have to the best of my abilities.

Oh, and yes, to everybody else, the Excelsior is too cool not to have two models of, sooo.... You guys can eventually plan on seeing the U.S.S. Lakota flying around here sometime! I also plan on working on some effects to make the ships cooler and more Trek-friendly(if I can figure out how)

I dunno how much work I'll get done this weekend, as I have a meeting on saturday morning, and will probably go clubbing on saturday night, so sorry guys for not keeping up the same production pace... You've got two ships, you'll be fine, I hope.

Don't get too excited because i won't be doing anything with this for a long while, if ever, but I wanted to do an experimental size comparison. All ships are to scale in relation to each other, and they are the same size as in the Miranda mod zip. wow, is all I have to say.




hmm... There may be some gameplay balance issues to work out... :LOL:

I am not one of the Borg Fans calling for it to be in Major's Mod but, give them the Cube... you know there have been pages of requests for the Borg and to tease them like that.... :)

Sigh... what have I done. Ok, a couple of things we must clarify.
1)This is not a model, this is a cube, polygon count=6. six. there is literally no detail in it at all.
2)There is no real texturing on this thing. I literally slapped a borg texture I found on an old Armada II site on to a giant box and loaded it in game.
3)That means there's no hardpoints yet. NONE.
4)There's no scripting for this yet. NONE. This model replaced my colony frigate... it was pretty freakin' hilarious to see this thing get massacred by a flak frigate, though. There are no borg weapons, borg engines, borg behaviors, nothing. It's just a poor little colony frigate trapped inside a huge borg cube-thing. And it acts like it. It's so big it runs into everything. Including planets. It's that ridiculously big.

That being said, I'll put some hardpoints on the mesh, add some lighting, and post this monstrosity just so you guys can be dissapointed.

I do plan on eventually doing the borg, but I want them done right. I have ideas that I want to see executed, but they are currently not possible. I want the borg the way they are supposed to be. No Armada II supercubes or diamonds or whatnot. I want the player to be able to wipe out an entire fleet with one cube, a la Wolf359. When I do do the borg, they will be awesome.

Now, maybe when I post the model this weekend, I will tell you guys my ideas, and you code monkeys out there can help me find a way to do it.

Very nice. Just curious. Do you know how the hyperspace exit effect was created? I'm helping with a stargate mod and that effect looks very similar to the way stargate ships enter and exit hyperspace.

u guys should have been with BOTA knights for the startrek starfleet command 3 days... so awesome.
