Z71  check the logs located at C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Impulse\Temporary and see if anything looks out of place

The folder is there. It has other folder (with stuff) in them. Nothing looks out of place, but then again, not sure what to look for. ;)

Also, does being on satalite have anything to do with it?

My "Network Access" says it's Local and Internet. Do I need to configure a "Network" to use this?
I'm sure, if I can just get past the Log-in, I'll be fine, it's getting there that's the battle.

Makes no difference. When you're on the net....you're on the net.

You're installing this as Administrator...correct?

No errors in the logs?

I may have some help for some of you who are having problems downloading or who need to reinstall. This is what finally worked for me. To do a clean install, I used Revo Uninstaller at the highest search level to remove all traces of Impulse from the registry. Be aware that it may false positive on a couple of Cursor FX files it thinks belong to Impulse. Make sure you check each thing it wants to remove. The number files do seem to belong to Impulse. After uninstalling, reboot. Not necessary usually but since Revo thinks this program is a system component, it may tie into the system in some manner that makes reboot advisable. Reinstall. It should work now. To get it to update correctly, I also had to uninstall ObjectZip because it was generating an error while trying to decompress until I archived ObjectZip. I have some tentative evidence it may also not be able to download and install some things correctly if you are running Zone Alarm's new beta of ForceField. If you are running ForceField, you do not need to uninstall it. Just disable it from your taskbar before downloading. Note that it will close your browser windows to turn itself off.

Everything now working. Downloads still much slower than SDC.

Yes.
No errors in the logs?

There was a lot of errors all saying the same thing. "Error parsing the XML from the webservice" & "Server not responding, please check your internet connection".
Deleted the log, still the messages.

Also, did the "Revo Uninstaller" 4 times. No success. Don't have Object Zip or Zone Alarm.

Just for the hell of it, do this and see if it does anything:

Start/ Run/ type (c/p): %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

and these:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
The first one didn't do anything. What's the (c/p): stand for?

The last two, said they succeeded.

Still getting the same message. No luck.

It was working fine, now its stuck in an endless loop and I installed on my notebook, same loop. Both Vista machines with 2GB ram and SP1.

It downloads an update and says "An update to impulse is ready. Please Note: You will need to restart impulse before installing any applications. Would you like to restart Impulse now?"

If I click on "Yes" - "There was a problem while Impulse was Auto-Updating, Please try again. Updating/Installing of applications will be unavailable until you restart Impulse"

Only option now is OK. And all you can do is close Impulse and then its the same as selecting "No" from the first dialogue box.

The next time you start Impulse same message "An update . . . ."

So I am in an infinite loop with Impulse, where to from here?

ok "Run as administrator" cured that problem, even after it recommended that i dont run Impulse as administrator. And it then fine when run normally.

But now it wont let me update IconPackager. It shows I have 3.99b[b].047 installed and 3.99b[b].050 is available but there is no option to update.

Impulse updated itself again this morning. Aside: does anyone know where to find the version information for Impulse?

I found the following errors in the impulse error log:

-- [29/03/2008 4:14:05 AM] ----------------------------------------------------
Context: CreateRequest XMLRead
Message: dxp_sap 3.49i[rc].021 beta InstallFile
Exception: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

Context: CreateRequest XMLRead
Message: dxp_sap 3.49i[rc].021 beta UnInstallFile
Exception: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

My Games information is back in the games tab, but doesn't know they are installed. Following the advise of Hollow Man in post 237, I added a sting value called 'Path' to the Dark Avatar and Twilight keys in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Stardok\Drengin.net\GalCiv2. Setting the path to the install location of GalCiv2. Once Impulse was restarted DA and Twilight showed as installed.

Just a little thing, on the updates and desktop tabs, DeskScapes and IconPackager show up, but with out the exclamation point graphic.

I found the "Restore Archive..." entry under the blue Stardock logo, however there doesn't seem to be a way to change the default location of where the backup files are stored.

In the Preferences... I found and 'Enable Archiving' check box. Does anyone know if this is an archive before download or a download and archive?

After continuous crashing I had to unistall Impulse. Will clean up registry and install again. See how it goes again.

All I get at the moment is 'Could not connect to servers, working in offline mode'. SDC connected and updated fine...

Just downloaded Impulse and everything installed and ran without any problems.  :D

So far I like what I see. Seems easy to understand. Going to go play with it more.

Besides cross updating applications seemingly one not knowing the other has updated the application already (other = SDC). I use Kaspersky Internet Security Suite and it yells like crazy when I run impulse.

PASSWORD-PROTECTED.EXE seems to be what it yells about and keeps telling me a new variant of the virus has been detected. This continues for about 5 minutes then settles down till I use it again. I tried everything on my end adding it to the trusted zone etc. I skimmed throught the pages here didn't find anyone else complaining about their AV blowing up.

It crashes and locks up after updating at times as well. I will look at the logs and paste it into this thread. :)

Overall I love the program and feel it will really be a beneficial tool especially for the novice/new user to stardock. Easier to see all your programs including the serial numbers. It has excellent eye candy made me be impulsive and bought a number of new items from Stardock. Good job guys! :CONGRAT:

I have 2 and a Laptop. One PC has XP, the other PC and the Laptop both have Vista. The 2 PCs have their own internet connections, while the laptop can connect with either one. Vista has a low bandwidth/low latency DSL connection, while XP has a high bandwidth/hign latency satellite connection. The Vista PC connect and logs in fine with Impulse. The XP machine does not, it tells me it could not log in, server not responding. I'd put it down to being an issue with the type of connection, if not for one thing: The laptop. The laptop can log in (though it takes awhile) from either connection. What's really strange about that is the fact that if it goes through the satellite connection, it's actually using the connection on the XP machine, since I have to use ICS on the XP machine for other PCs to be able to access the satellite (the satellite requires special software be running on the host machine, so it can't be plugged into directly the way my DSL modem can). Any suggestions?

I noticed we now have the ability to Archive. Right click an app, and select "Archive Application". But the archives are 0 bytes.

We also have a History link! :CONGRAT:

Fixed my issue, I had disabled COM+ and SENS services. :)

View History always 404.

DeskScapes and IP don't have an update button, but are on the list. I updated DeskScapes last time I started Impulse but it now insists I have the old version.

I'm getting the same thing... Telling me there's an update, but not giving me the button to click... It's torture!!!   X-(

Well, it's a start anyway  ;)

I notice that 'More Info' basically takes you to a page to buy the software. Not really informative ... but maybe that is the intent.  :NOTSURE:
