Sins of a Solar Empire Update Schedule

Sins of a Solar Empire Update Schedule

A sneak preview

Despite the phenomenal success of Sins of a Solar Empire both in terms of sales and in reviews, we are just getting started! Ironclad and Stardock have a whole host of goodies in the pipeline for Sins of a Solar Empire.

First, we've decided to split the next major update into two parts. This way, we can release an update sooner.

The first update will be called Sins of a Solar Empire v1.04.  This version will contain some balancing updates based on player feedback, more computer AI updates, and other game play tweaking.

The second update will be Sins of a Solar Empire v1.1.  This will be a more significant update providing a considerable overhaul of the multiplayer system with more features and updated networking code to make it more robust under a whole series of circumstances. I can't go into too much detail but it's pretty cool stuff.  v1.1 will also include new graphical options including one with very high resolution textures.

After v1.1, we'll see where we're at and go from there.  Stay tuned!

New graphics yay! I want to be able to get more out of my new rig with Sins. ;)

Keep up the great work Stardock and Ironclad! I look forward to seeing future titles from both parties.

I absolutely love this game. Congratulations to everyone who worked on Sins, because it is like Homeworld on steroids. Since my game arrived last week I have played little else. My only complaint is the graphics could be improved. Not that their is that much wrong with them just higher resolution ships would be nice and the explosions could be seriously improved. Well done Ironclad. P.s can I sue you if my missus files for divorce over me playing Sins? lol:-)

The correct course of action, EnglishAl, would be to get your wifey addicted to Sins as well :)

Simply fantastic, it's great to see that the developers are paying attention to what's going on in the community and acting accordingly. Since most of the ongoing discussions on the forum could be percieved to be negative due to the subject matters (inbalances and bugs), let me just point out that noone would air their concerns in such a hardcore maner, if it wasn't because they fundamentally loved the game. You've probably already figured that one out, but it's always nice to be told :)

As a long time Stardock supporter (Since 2003 I believe), I can't say i'm surprised :). These folks listen, guys. Good Job all, keep up the good work. Go Ironclad!

On a side note, there was way too much negativity on the forum lately IMO. I'm glad its "calmed" down and the *constructive* suggestion threads have become more prominent. Lets keep it this way and the devs will keep reading the forums =p.

See ya in IRC, Brad. Hope we can catch another game sometime. Maybe this time we'll all gang up on you so we can say we killed Froggy =p.

Suggestion: More AI missions, along with giving credits = some happiness (limit of 10-20%?)I can understand "You shouldn't be able to buy your allies" in single player, but I know if someone paid me 2k credits and asked me to lay off, I probably would for while.Or just make it a matter of diminishing returns, so even if you make them initially happy, you'll need to pay them off more and more to prevent their happiness from dropping when they realize you aren't going to keep pay them off. That'd be awesome.
Master of Orion 2 had a pretty good system for that. You could make a tribute to other empire that automatically transfers a percentage of your income to that empire until it is cancelled.
It was often enough to switch the focus from you to some other empire.

Thanks so much for giving people what they want by splitting up the patches to give us a balance/gameplay fix sooner before all the more complicated things.

I think you already know what I and a lot of others think needs to be changed in regards to balance. :)

Ironclad,

Great work so far! Any word on improvements for hotkeys? As has been mentioned in the past, they're not yet "hotkeyish" enough. Also, how about some more tooltip info regarding unit relationships? I should not have to look at this every time I want to figure out which ships should be attacking each other during a battle. Rise of Nations and Rise of Legends are both excellent models for these sorely needed features. Or this guy:

sorry about double post! I think the forum is still a bit creeky from that shameful DOS attack.

Luke, the infocards for the ships already say what other ship types they're good against. For example, showing the infocard for a fighter squadron will tell you they're good against long range frigates, siege frigates :P

I know the fish is still in the ocean, but with the dialogue you keep with us (your product buyers) and the fact you listen to the feedback and act quickly to keep up - I just want to congratulate you Ironclad and Stardock!
With this customer support and the fact you already have developed an amasing game I think you will keep your community happy and active playing (especially if you somehow implement a ranking system), even in the post Starcraft 2 era:)

Flak needs to say it's good vs. LRM.

Please do not only cater for multi player. Us single players are customers as well, just not as vocal.

I would like to see options for SP speed of the game. I am new to this sort of things and the game still plays a little fast for me.

I would also like to see some sort of colonization / invasion options in 1.1 If we could see some planet based building as well that would be great. Maybe an option for an expansion. Sort of like StarWars Empire at War.

Cheers MarkL

Catering to multiplayer not only improves single player, but also caters to those who are definitely not pirates. Single player is easy to pirate, so it would make no sense to ignore the multiplayer and only improve single player.

Not to mention that most of the changes so far have been to single player and its about damn time multiplayer and balance got looked at seriously.

To expand on what Thinkingman is saying; single player is very easily modded. You don't have to worry about everyone having the hassle of installing, getting the right versions, finding other people with the same setup; you just download the mod you want to try and play it very happily yourself. The multiplayer needs to be good in the official build, because that's what everyone has. For example, marklaur wants to be able to adjust the single player game speed: this merely requires opening up one of the config files and changing a value, something you can happily do yourself (I'm sure there's a thread on how to do this somewhere).
In short, if there's something about single player you don't like it's very easy to change (or have someone else change for you), but if there's something about multiplayer you don't like then your only real hope is convincing the devs to patch it.

marklaur- You know you can adjust the speed of the game in single player mode right? I believe it's + and -.

See this picture ironclad/stardock crew. I don't want to create a topic just to post this little error, nothing big. Look at infocard, the words are transpassing the inforcard limits:

"friendly culture will soon overthrow this planet"

Ps.: i really liked now in 1.03 i can press print screen button and get the image automaticlly in screenshot past of sins. Great!!! thanks
